Great prank, compared to my brother and I as kids yours sound like angels. Hell, I used to fake being blind and my brother would walk me into things and yell at me about being a stupid blind kid and how sick he was at having to take care of me. The sickest part of the whole thing was that I was 6, he was 8 and my dad, who was around 30 at the time thought it was hysterical! Mom would get so pissed!

:lmaosmiley: :lmaosmiley:

That's funny! Reminds me of Bust - he still plays games. Up until a few years ago he was the secret mustard man. He would go into the local convenience store and when no one was looking he would squirt mustard on the floor. If he really wanted to taunt a specific stock boy, he would frequent more often. It took many years before they finally figured out it was him. Fortunately, he was friends with the owner who took his prank well.

Mom needs to smile and be happy they're not into something much worse. They could be coming home with items she didn't pay for.

That's great . . . .

Wow, this is so weird...we used to play like the same game when I was in high school...but the object of the game was to shop for dinner, but by only taking stuff out of other peoples carts...

The best person to find (for either game I suppose) is the mom with the kid in the cart and it being almost overflowing with stuff already.

That and guys concentrating on a list their wife gave them...

Just for ***** and giggles, I asked our local district attorney if there was any type of crime here (in case I wanted to scare my wife and/or kids), and she said, "No, but if they were taking things out of the cart that a person had an expectation to have purchased, it may be considered Criminal Mischief (which in Oregon means to create an inconvenience)"

So in other words, if a person puts something in their cart, then goes to the checkout counter, buys their stuff, gets home, finds it isn't there, has to return to the store for it, and it creates a substantial enough inconvenience, the person causing the inconvenience could be found guilty of Criminal Mischief III.

The way my kids are doing it (especially considering they don't use perishables), there is no risk of that.

Exactly. That's the beauty part of your kids prank. Especially if they pick highly visible, odd items that the person is likely to observe at the checkout (but may not want to call attention to).

I think the reverse game, taking out of others carts, while it may or may not be an actual crime, is clearly less cool.

One other thing, I commend your kids for finding an interesting diversion at the otherwise least interesting place in the world (stupormarket). The only thing you would want to emphasize is the harmlessness is what makes it OK. When you do other folks harm, it's not so fun anymore.

Cool, another crime I got away with...........

EDIT..

Oh, and I really do not see a diffrence in having to go back to the store to buy an item that was taken out of a cart as opposed to having to go back and return an item that I did not want , but paid for.....

OK, call me an old fuddy-duddy, but I think this is the Costco equivalent of spreading a computer virus...a random act of stupidity that has no purpose except to aggravate or inconvenience someone else. You wanna play a prank on your friends or your family, fine, they might just think it is hysterical and at least will have a chance to return the favor, but don't **** with complete strangers. I don't watch every item that gets rung up at the register and I don't want to be paying for condoms or tampons or limburger cheese just so your brilliant and wonderful kids can get a yuck out of it. Teach the little fvckers that having respect for others is more important than them getting a laugh at someone else's expense.

Fuddy Duddy!

Pay attention you old *******. :dribble:

If it's not the kids in the aisles ripping you off it's the one behind the register!!

OK...you are an old fuddy-duddy.

Not that hard to keep an eye on your cart.

I have caught freaking grown ups trying to take stuff out of mine so they did not have to walk to the other end of the store and get it..

if you think that is bad, you should see the quarter gag. where one uses heavy duty epoxy on a shiny quarter and glue to an high traffic area on the cement. then watch behind a one-way glass as the make fools of them self's in public trying to get a quarter that will not move. :aaevil: not that i have ever done that

And your point is that this kind of crap is OK because the victim should be more attentive? That's just great.

"I have caught freaking grown ups trying to take stuff out of mine so they did not have to walk to the other end of the store and get it.."

And is that OK too? I've had people steal stuff from me so they didn't have to pay for it. Does that make it OK to tell my kids how cute it is to do mischief to strangers? It isn't so much the specific act here as much as the principle that bothers me.

You asked for it! Old Fuddy-Duddy, there boys, it could be a lot worse!

Nah, what sent me over the edge was the guy who swapped the Preparation H for my denture cream..

Although I initally thought this game was pretty funny, there is some good points to the above thought. I see too many youngsters with no real consideration for others, they are just out for what makes them feel good and trying to get what they want, when they want. Not sure I want to condone developing more *******/Punk'd idiots. Unless of course you're doing it to family or friends... you can screw around with them all you like.

So, ding-dong-ditch, dog **** in a burning paper bag, and the things of the 50's are ok, but this isn't? I don't see this as being any more harmful than those things.

I never said that this behavouir was OK, it is , as pointed out , "criminal mishchief". I did it when I was a kid. I saw no mention yet of the OP telling his kids that it was OK either.

Now grown ups doing it is way more wrong. It is not OK. But it happens because:

The world is a scary and dangerous place.

If you put your wallet in your back pocket and walk through a crowd and it gets "picked"..yeah, in my book it is a bit your fault for putting in a easy to reach spot. Yes the guy that took it is breaking the law and anyone stealing your stuff is too. They should be arressted and punished.

But, you are still responsible to some point..you leave your doors unlocked and your TV gets stolen. You leave your keys in your car and it gets taken. Sucks , I know , but to some point...you are to blame there...

Now kids putting stuff in your shopping cart? If you are that unattentive to stuff you are hoping to buy ...be it when they put it in the cart or you are about to pay for it...You are still partially responsible.

Hell, when I go shopping I watch the register carefully because sometimes the store will charge you more than what the price on the shelf said.

So try to realize you are not living in eutopia and stop yellling at the kids to get off your lawn.......
