Personally, I hope the good folks of CFR get to host NAFO 2012.
Ya think the 'Benevolent Dictatorship' will allow that? I'd say we're in!!! :D
Winnipeg? Saskatoon? Calgary?

Wait, I've got it!! Yellowknife!!! ;)
Yellowknife would be nice, but I'm hoping it will be at Atlin Lake on the Yukon Territory border! 20 years ago, between my two divorces, heading North on mi moto to take a job call with Viking Corporation through ALYESKA, I stopped at Lake Atlin.

Met a Beauty of a Lady named Joanie in the local saloon. I then spent a month over the next three nights with Sweet Joan.

As Paul Harvey would say, that's rest of the story why I have "thing" about Canadian Gals! Where did the 20 years go too?

Li'l tough getting there Don.

They ain't got no roads!!

And one more thing (I should probably send this via PM).

Don't really know how to break it to you...

Let's just say... Paul (Harvey) Aurandt ain't coming down for breakfast.

Fred, if there are no roads to Yellowknife or Atlin Lake: You need to come to Arizona and explain that to my 1996 BMW R1100GS "Mi Mexico Mule!" From page 764 of THE ALASKA MILEPOST: "Highway 3 is a wide, paved, all-weather road in good condition leading 211 miles/341 km from its junction with Highway 1 to Yellowknife. There is a ferry crossing in summer/ice road crossing in winter of the Mackenzie River. Gas is available at Fort Providence & in Yellowknife."

Now I see: You're one of those effete Eastern FJR guys that prefer pavement over dirt, eh! Then Lake Atlin will be your ticket!

Page 175 2009 MILEPOST: "A popular side trip from the Alaska Highway is a visit to the village of Atlin, BC, a 59-mile/95-km drive south from Jake's Corner (Milepost DC 836.8 Alaska Highway) via Atlin Road. Return to the Alaska Highway by taking the all-paved "Carcross Loop," a 66-mile/106-km drive via Tagish Road to Carcross and the South Klondike Highway back to the Alaska Highway at Milepost DC 874.4. By the Way, Atlin is called "The Shangri-la of the North"!

PS: Yeah, being a Paul Harvey fan definitely brands me as a Senile Old Coot. I was a real sucker for his midday radio shows!

I never been to either place Donnie, so I will defer to your age and wisdom. I found the roads to Yellowknife, but that lakeside resort near the Yukon didn't seem to have anything on a quick survey of GMaps.

I guess we could all take dual sports and just backpack the FJRs in...

Fred, I have never been to Yellowknife either; but members of AZ Beemers have and they say the road is now fully paved.

Atlin Lake is really Heaven on Earth! And nicest thing about visiting Lake Atlin is you can do different roads coming and going!

Sounds/looks like an awesome destination, but...

probably something more southish and a little eastish would be better for a large 'North American' gathering... doncha think? :)

Having the big rally in 2012 somewhere in the north west part of Canada would be very appealing. The closer to Alaska the better, especially if it is in late June or early July.

FJRGuy - Jeff, please consider what Greg wrote! It may be a huge draw to have NAFO at Atlin Lake. Look how popular the topic of riding to Alaska has been consistently on our wonderful FJR Forum for year after year. dcarver, Bluestreek, Duff, Joseph, TwoWheelNut and so many others have ridden to Alaska or have constantly dreamed about riding up to Alaska.

What a perfect Alaska staging area Atlin Lake, on the Yukon border, would be for NAFO attendees. If you had any concerns about riding to Alaska solo, and the ride is really no big deal, this way you'd have a gaggle of friends to ride Northward with!

Sweet thing about our Forum, no one in this house is afraid of high mileage FJR Runs! After I posted up last night I hope the scheduling works out so Barb's Run, SW-FOG and NAFO could be a "Rolling Rally: I got PM's from people wanting to ride with me to all 3. Real credit to our Forum with FJR riding fools. Warchild, Ignacio, SkooterG, Lisa, Bionic and so many other folks!

I would predict that there likely will be a meeting at NAFO 2010 with various reps of the regional events available and that the group would make the decision based largely on whatever regional group raises their hand and with conviction says, "We would like to could host the next one and think we'd do a good job". I don't know how to translate that phrase into Canuckian......
"We would like to could host dat dere next one and we'd do a good great job, eh!"

You're welcome!

Farm animal *** is one thing, but a circle anus shave???

Attention FJRGuy Jeff and Other NAFO 2012 Canadian Planners: If NAFO is indeed in the able care and handling of our Canuckistan friends, then I'm still lobbying for Lake Atlin being considered as a potential NAFO site. I know other Alaska Riding Fiends such as Geezer, dcarver and Chuy would be interested in Lake Atlin.
