There are plenty of us from Northern Illinois that ride up together. Take I-74 to I-39 and come up I-39 to meet several of us and we will guide you up some great west Wisconsin roads to LaCrosse. I'm located off I-39 about 24 miles north of I-80.

Quick easy and fun (after IL. it's fun).

I 74 from Indy to just west of Brimfield, IL

Exit North on IL 78 = Couple of hours Straight flat & Boring, for sure.

At the WI. border IL 78 will become WI 78, now the fun starts.

Stay on WI 78 till WI 33 West, this will take you all the way to downtown La Crosse.

or at Middle Ridge go North on WI 162 to I 90 West, I 90 exit 1 is French Island & Days Inn.

I just looked at this thread and realized where and when this event is. I haven't been that far north in a while and have never been up there in a bike...I'm in! Now to see if anyone else is going from Indiana or passing through. Looks like I can slab it to Quad Cities on I-74 or take Hwy 136 to Danville, IL then Hwy 150 through IL to Quad Cities, or?
I'd shoot up north and west via slab or 2-laner of your choice to west of Rockford and amble back roads to Dodgeville...the roads from there get pretty fun. I'm sure the N. Illinois contingent will give an assist.
Where in "midwest" are you located?
Mayberry.

Also known as Wheaton, IL...

...but that address may change this spring or summer. I may be relocating south and east of the Smokies this year, if I am successful in my new job search.

So I may have to travel farther to NAFO...but I will still know that back way to get there.

That sounds great! You're about an hour north of Bloomington, which is about 3 hours away from me.

Ah west of Chicago! Yes, I remember you posting about wanting to move south...I will be doing the same thing within a couple of years.

I am going from South West of Chicago this year. Give me a shout if you want to hook up along the way or stop for a break for a bit ... It is just me at this point but may include a couple more if I can coax them to borrow their balls back for a few days ..

You're not far from wheaton then. Maybe we can have a little group ride up together! My wife will most likely be on the back of my bike so my balls belong to me! :)

The "yer not far from Wheaton then" is like saying yer not far from Bloomington then... :D

I generally don't ride with people that have to ask for their balls. Sometimes it gets embarrassing in the driveway at the start of the trip when mommy says no. :D

What? It's only about an inch away from each other on the map! ;-)
Inchworms in the city crawl slower...

Wheaton,

You are only about 25 miles from me ... A mere 3 or 4 hours in Chicago Traffic ... Actually its not so bad on 355 but definitely not a fun riding road ... Not that there are any where we live ...

Yeah, we are in the same metropolitan area...then again, NW Indiana is part of this same metropolitan area.

Anyways...

..I would advise people to take I39 north to NW Illinois, where you can start making your way on the backroads all day to Lacrosse...

More like 90 minutes north of Bloomington.

If one were to fly out, what would be the nearest airport? Minneapolis??
Rochester MN is closer. It's an International Terminal but Minneapolis is bigger with probably more access.
TS1 is right about Rochester but don't totally dismiss the La Crosse airport a lot more than puddle jumpers fly in and out of there. It's less that 1/2 mile from NAFO HQ and there's a hotel shuttle, that might negate the need for a rental car.

TS1 BLEEDS PURPLE and makes many of trips (by plane there). I will now have a 2 year 'off period' while the new stadium is being built... then, back to 7th Ave and my fav restaurant; Fogo de Chão

Oh wait, I'm going back by bike in July for MOA (in St. Paul). I should of been born a Minni-sow-ta-inn!

Cool!

Marking my calendar!

Will plan a route to discover the Eastern US and Northern Ontario...

And try to hit the spots I missed going to CFR last summer in Huntsville...
