twowheelnut: Es verdad, mi amigo! I spoke with him and Jane yesterday on their ride back from California and he said that he is starting a job next week. I am going to meet him, Arturo Montoya, our Nogales friend Martin Osete and other FJR & BMW & Ducati jockeys here in Chandler, Arizona at Buffalo's Hot Wings for dinner on Wednesday evening at 1900.

I just hope that Arte doesn't have a heart attack when Greg announces this new work modus operandi of his! Senor Montoya y yo have been calling El Pendejo Marbach "Sin Trabajo" for so long that it's going to be hard to break a habit.

Fred W: If you can get to Phoenix over February 15-18 you'd be welcome to ride the KLR with we AZ Beemers and Fast Tour Riders Group to Bahia Kino, Sonora, Mexico. I'd ride the GS, even though dirt is optional on a MEX 15 route. Chuy

Interesting -

They use belt drive on the F800 ST - but not on the GL -

Hmmm.........

Thanks,

But I ditched the KLR and have now got an old Aprilia Peg. Not quite as off-road worthy, but far better on the tar, IMO. And I like it. The Kaw was a bit too crude for my tastes. TETO (To Each Their Own)

Now that SkooterG has a job...
*choke, sporf, snicker* Say what?! Gainfully employed? Skooter? What's he doing, handing out mints in the men's room of the Scottsdale Fairmont?

*cough, gag, spew beer on my monitor* WHAT?!?! Seriously? He's finally gotten some time in his oh so busy unemployed schedule and found a job?! My god, this really is the end of the world!

Rocks and such are not a friend of the belt drive...
Hmm.... Perhaps the enclosure isn't as enclosed as I would think -
Yep! Rocks and pebbles have a way of bouncing around and inserting themselves into places where they are neither invited nor welcome. The end result is usually less-than-kind to the parts one is attempting to preserve.

This would be "ungood to the max" if one were anywhere except next to a dealer...if they happened to have a belt in stock. :glare:

You should see the places that small rocks, pebbles and stuff collected on my Wabs after the FODS ride. That **** would indeed find it's way under the belt.

Hola Arte,

I'm glad that your ticker was able to take the news of SkooterG getting a job. I had to take some of my heart medication myself. I was cleaning my pool when he called me and gave me the news, I almost bobbled my cellphone into the water. No more "sin trabajo" para Senor Marbach, que lastima.

Arturo, es verdad. Es el extremo del mundo entero como lo sabemos!

Recuerdos, Chuy

YIKES!!! Don't think you'd wanna take that off-roading in Mexico!

Don't think Pemex brews anything stronger than about 67 RON IIRC. :)

Would hate to run out in Chihuahua....

....although TWN has run out IN a Chihuahua!

Yeah, good call. Didn't notice that first time through. So that would be ~91 pump octane.

Hmmm... I seem to recall reading the engine was grabbed directly from the F800ST. I'll bet that's one of the things that gets changed before release.

Here's the information that I've received from Gunter in Munchen und Hans in Berlin: 85 horsepower at 8,000 rpm; 63 foot lbs. of torque at 5,800 rpm; 400 lbs. dry weight; 4.4 gallon tank capacity; tested to 115 mph, close to a V-Strom.
Great, thanks for sharing the info .....and those spec's are near the ladies' version of the strom, not the men's version. :)

Fred W and RadioHowie: All five of mi motocicletas run better on PEMEX that any available service station gasolina here en Estados Unidos. For the Kawasaki KLR 650 and my Yamaha FJR 1300 I run the PEMEX Magna which has 87 octane.

The Magna has the green pump handle and the PEMEX Premium has a red pump handle; it's 92 octane; better than US!

I run the 92 Premium in my BMW R1150RT, my BMW R1100GS and my Harley-Davidson FXD Twin Cam 88; no pinging!

Only time I have had fuel problems South of the Border is when I rode to Guatemala City. Guatemala gas is goat piss!

Dear Fred W:

Thanks for posting specifications on the F800GS. With your kind permission I am copying them to www.azbeemers.org

Gracias, BeemerDonS

Really...?

Lets see:

DL650 Wee-strom:

Power: 49kW

Torque: 60Nm

Dry weight: 418 lbs

F800GS:

Power: 63kW

Torque: 83Nm

Dry weight lbs 392

DL1000 Vstrom

Power: 71.5kW

Torque: 101Nm

Dry Weight: 456 lbs

Some quick math: 800/650= 1.23 1000/800= 1.25

Sure looks to me like the F800 BMW is more than 1.23 times more powerful than the WeeStrom, and yet the bigger Vstrom is not 1.25 times more powerful than the F800.

El Jefe: FJR enthusiast Fred W over at www.fjrforum.com has just posted specifications for the new F800GS!

Go over to www.fjrforum.com - then click on the Other Bike / Bike Related Discussions forum and then click on "New DS on the Market" on the second page you will see the specs; the topic starter was Orangevale FJR.

Here are some tidbits that really caught my eye: MSRP is $10,520; Fuel consumption is 62 mpg at 56mph.

Fuel consumption at 74 mph at 45 mpg - this is where you and I would ride this; not Der Cooleyman though!

Tank gallon capacity is 4.2 gallons and they say the dry weight is 392 lbs. Gasoline weighs 6.2 lbs. a gallon so adding 26 lbs. for fuel the bike is at 418 lbs.; if you add in 10 lbs. for lubricating fluids you are at 428 lbs.

If you add in 22 lbs. for BMW Marketing Krauts being lying *******s, in theory the F800GS could be at 450 lbs.
