The overhang allows you to nail the sheathing into the sill plate.

The siding hangs below the bottom edge of the sheeting, which is still inches above grade.

I'm told that tomorrow afternoon should be the end of all the work. While I'm not getting my hopes up too much, I'm still getting my hopes up too much...

That is an impressive crew. I can and have built similar things but it takes me a LONG time. My quality is... average but my speed pace is slow. I am impressed.

Quick question. Where'd you put all your stuff in the interim? Living room?
biggrin.png
Ha, ha! Not quite, but close...

There's a 15 x 7 shed near the back of the garage (can be seen in some of the shots) that is housing things like the workbench, air compressor, tool boxes, floor jacks, bike lift jack, kerosene heater and some garage supplies.

The basement also has most of the things that could be boxed up, so we've got an impressive collection of boxes stacked down there as well. I'm not looking forward to carrying everything back up from there, but at least it will be going home instead of into storage this time.

The motorcycles--that's another story. My wife and I have 5 bikes between us, and they are at 4 different garages at the moment. The current situation proves that we have exactly the correct amount of good friends nearby.

All the best,

Shane

Ha! I figured if it was, maybe also your wife was getting her hopes up. Sounds like a sound, but complicated temporary storage plan. You didn't leave the keys with the bikes at your friends houses did you? Cuz, depending on what ya got, you could store bikes and keys at my house.

And the last photos I took today...siding and insulation is all done, minus the top of one gable end above the security light that gets hung tomorrow..

A chance to show off the bikes? Sure!

First though, I do have to say that all of the people who are making space available for my bikes right now are good friends, and I would trust them with the keys--and they would appreciate the joke as well!

Geez, you couldn't even trust a neighbor with the keys to the turd of a KLR? I mean, you can't hurt those things at all, right?
biggrin.png

Not to mention, they are so butt ugly, your neighbor wouldn't want to be seen riding it anyway.

My father in law who passed away a few years ago has one just like this. Well not in that shape anyway (much, much worse). My brother in law managed to abscond with it before my other brother in law was going to scrap it out. Funny thing is he has no clue how to do anything mechanical. So for now it sits leaned against the garage wall for the last year now. The story goes he crashed it when he bought it new and never rode it again. His son is a Harley fanatic and would have nothing to do with it. It has a little damage but not that bad. still very rid able if one was to get it going again.

Hey now , take is easy on the KLR. They have an inner beauty and are a great urban assault vehicle.

Oh. My. God.

That was my first ride. Took my first (and only) California m/c license test on one. Wow, that takes me back. She's in magnificent condition.

Glad you're giving her a proper home.

That's ok, the KLR doesn't need anyone's love--it's perfectly content in all of it's ugly glory.

The guy who is housing it right now sold his KLR a couple of years ago, and totally wishes he had it back.

I put a 685 piston and cylinder in it about 7 years ago--great value power upgrade. Oddly, it's the one bike I find myself wishing I was on whenever I'm blasting through mountainous states on some other, more capable bike.

All the best,

Shane

Well, the finish line has been moved to tomorrow...seems that the overhead door people couldn't make it today, so there was a little breathing room for the sheetrock crew in the heat today.

By my estimation, the tasks left are:

  • Hang overhead door
  • Sheetrock walls
  • Make all electrical connections, hang security light and indoor lights
  • Finish a couple of roofline/soffit spots related to outside lighting and electricity
  • Sweep floor

Really, that's about it. Here's a picture from today's ceiling insulation/sheetrock work

Wanted this shot before gutters go on

IMG_20150902_122806_803_zpsvs4socje.jpg

The crew is just casing in the windows and cleaning up now. Got a call from the gutter team lead, who will be here in the morning to install gutters, which is nice.

Once the electrician makes an appearance (hopefully) today, it should be ready to use!
