Sometimes expressing factual information does require using many words, some of those are in addition "sheep dip", "bumfuck", and "anal shavings".

BTW - I don't blame you for your confuscation in the least bit. It took a great deal of intarwebs searching to find all that "wordy" factual information I posted last year. Before that I was under the same impression that you were up until a few minutes ago.

I've always gone for the "American car" sound. Sure, I could go higher tones (Ferrari) and the encroaching driver thinks "Hey neat, a Ferrari! Guess I better back off or this could be expensive".

I go for lower tones- my goal is to evoke the ancestral memory of a 1972 Buick Electra 225- because I want their lizard brains jumping up and down on there cerebral cortex screaming "OH DAMN THIS IS GONNA HURT".

This gives me time to evade while their upper brain is trying to figure out why the lizard brain is figuratively cowering under a rock...

This is the one I got:

Purveyor of crooked facts is pretty accurate. You apparently did not follow my link to the post I made this time last year. There are three dual horn kits made and sold by PIAA.

85110 - Dual 400 / 500 Hz Sports Horns
85112 - Dual 500 / 600 Hz Sports Horns

85114 - Dual 400 / 500 Hz Slimline Sports Horns

So the kit linked to by Rider_FJR is in fact a dual SLIMLINE horn kit.

Now back under your rock, you!

BTW - before you post and tell me that 1) I am correct and 2) I am an asshole, save your breath (or more accurately, your typing). I already know.

It appears that the PIAA Sport Horn is not a simple Plug N Play.

The wires are too short.

What are my options? Do I just get a extension cable, maybe 2-3 inches? That is the name of this clip?

You're FJR must be special? I don't think I've ever heard of this issue before. Or is it a POS Gen II issue?

Well, I got this item installed:

However, the horn on the throttle side is hitting the fork. The clutch side is OK, but close to the fork.

I wonder if I would keep stock horn on the throttle side and just replace the clutch side with the 500PIAA.

I have a superior 1st gen, so I'll be no help here with your fitment issue, except to say: If you do opt to install the new horn only on one side, figure out which of the two OE horns is the high one and make sure that you replace that one. If that happens to be on the wrong side, just swap sides with the OEs.

The good news is: The re-shaped fairing on the Gen III leaves loads of room for bigger horns. I mounted a pair of Hella Duotones (which I know from experience will bitch-slap an errant cage right back into their own lane) on my Gen I but, try as I may, I still had to be careful about running the forks to full lock. I recently fitted a pair of Hellas to my Gen III and there’s no clearance problem at all. You could swing a possum around by the tail in there. But, I suppose that’s problematic inasmuch as the Gen III doesn’t come equipped with a possum.

When I remove the original horn, should I also remove the metal 2 inch metal bracket? Or should the new PIAA mount to the original bracket.

Meaning, do you just remove the OEM horn and leave the bracket or do you remove the OEM horn and the metal bracket.

Also, throttle side should have the 500 or the 400 horn?

For example: if you were to get this one only: Which side would you mount it on? Throttle or Clutch?

The OE high tone horn was on the throttle (right) side. That's where you'd want to put the 500Hz PIAA horn if you'll only be doing one horn.

I installed my PIAA horn using the new bracket that it came with only. The OE bracket was removed with the OE horn. But again, this was on a 1st gen. I'm not sure the horn brackets are the same. Yours (above) looks different than mine.

OK, after hours and hours, I can't seem to get the 400 and 500 to mount, without having the forks hit it under high compression.

I put the 500 on the throttle side, then I replace it with the 400 and it’s the same issue, where throttle side hits the fork, but the left would only touch it when compressed.

I mounted it, but removing the original horn.

Then, I removed the little metal bracket with hex key.

And I simply mounted the new horn.

Yes, it is a 15 minute job, but the fork will hit the horn when compressed.

Wait, the fork would hit the horn if it is compress when straight? Or just if handlebars are turned fully in that direction and then fully compressed? How often do you suppose that is going to happen?

As long as it won't hit when fully turned, and it also won't hit when relatively straight but compressed, I'd think you'd be OK.

Maybe some better pictures to compare to another 2nd genner's install?

I just sent some pictures to him. I donno about 'fully' compressed, but from lock to lock, and as far as I can compress the shocks, nothing hits. Never had any contact while riding either.

Don't forget that lots of guys have done plastic surgery to get horns to fit. You may need to pull out the Dremel.

Hope the pics helped...Let us know.

The wires on my 07 were too short as well. Turns out, they were tie-wrapped to a harness and, once I removed the inner, black piece of tupperware and liberated the wires from the harness, I was able to create enough length to attach the PIAAs. They hang fine. And I don't worry about the fork hitting when the wheel is turned to the stop. As Fred said, that don't happen that often.

Didn't have this much bother with other aftermarket horns on my other FJRs, but the PIAAs are on there. Think that the Magnum Blasters were louder (or maybe they were just more obnoxious sounding) but these are a great improvement over stock.

I installed mine a year ago...took the advice of Fred W and had no issues. I hope these pics help
