FINALLY !!..... got the new modem up and running

Have to throw in the towel on this one. Tweaked my knee riding with Erin this morning. Bringing in the new year with pain killers and some Knob Creek from the couch. :(

Brad,

Heal quickly, DV is just around the corner! We'll be on this ride in the same manner as Beemerdons... (actually I think we're heading over Tioga or Ebbetts)

And YOU are the leader for FODS!!!!!??????

Freakin' Old Damaged Seniors?

Sorry, Brad. Enjoy medicating your way through New Years and heal quickly.

Uh....Kristy and Erin can join us. ;)

It was great seeing everyone today and a good time was had by all. The group was much larger than is represented by the posts here.

After lunch at the Jackson Casino, and the group had mostly split up. there was an unfortunately a crash on the way back on Suttter Ione Road. street view A new rider, Robert H was injured running off the outside of a tight left curve and head-on into a large rock. Fortunately he was coherent considering the circumstances, and EMTs took no chances with his care as he was backboarded, neck braced and transported to the local helipad for transport. We have no word where he was Air-Transported or current condition. Nice as hell guy, and I have no idea how to reach him. I have his Zumo and hoped to get contact information off it, but it has a lock PIN on it. If anyone gets word, let me know.

The Highway Patrol described this road as a "motorcycle eater", and there was evidence of a recent crash (plexiglass, upturned dirt, repaired barbwire fence and posts) at this same location.

That sucks! Yes, that road can sneak up on you in a hurry. Just when you think you got a flow going a real brake burner of a corner comes out of nowhere. Wishing that rider the best and a speedy recovery. If anyone hears anything please post up.

Damn.

Hate hearing this news, Tom.

Was he riding by himself, or in a group?
He was a tenth of a mile behind me and Terri and ahead of RogDeb.

I saw him go off the road in my rear view mirror.

He was third in a group with me leading, followed by Hycle and Terri, then Robert, and Rogdeb behind him. Roger was having problems with his second gear and had just waved him by to the third position. We were NOT running hot. He made the curve and appears to have target fixated the rock as he left the road well after the apex. Rider had jeans and a leather jacket (no armor), and full HJC helmet. The HJC helmet was heavily damaged on the left side from chin to crown before it was dislodged during the crash.

Roger described the bike hitting the rock straight-on, and flipping over. It impacted the left side case enough to crack it open and discharge oil on the rock and over the fairings. The fork seals also blew out. The windshield separated nearly without damage as designed with the break-away screws. Even the tail rack was separated, so damage from stem to stern, this FJR AE will not likely see the road again.

Rider was coherent but confused and couldn't recall the wreck. He had his bell rang good enough that Hycle asked him "how many dicks do I have". You gotta love this group, but you really hate when something like this happens. Humor is about our only defense. (If anyone thinks this is inappropriate I'll take the pics down. Cell phone is all I had)

Irony: This is post #911 for me.

I know that there is also psychological trauma for those riding in the same group as well as the group organizer...as I've been in those boots.

Although you were all in a group, everybody makes their OWN decisions. Very sorry about the incident and injuries...hope he gets well. But no second guessing is needed about your efforts or decisions.

Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear this! I Hope he heals up soon. It can be very traumatic for everyone; victim and witnesses and I wish everyone involved the best.

I just got a facebook message from Robert's neighbor.

He is at Kaiser in South Sacramento :

South Sacramento Medical Center

6600 Bruceville Road, Sacramento CA 95823

(916) 688-2000

I do not have any other information except his name: Robert Heitner

Too bad, hope his injuries aren't too severe...Group rides are difficult to manage, especially when an incident like this happens. Sending good thoughts to all that were there.

Hope Robert heals up quick!

I now have more information. His daughter Whitney is with him at the hospital.

He has abrasions, a concussion and is in a neck brace. He doesn't remember what happened or how it happened (very normal) and is repeating himself (also normal, BTDT, as have others.

Edit: I was speculating what his forum handle is, but shouldn't guess. Sorry to say we had not previously met.

At the accident scene, I tried to call his daughter, and its a relief to hear she has made it to the hospital to be with him.

This is the shits. I (all of us, I think) just met the guy today for the first time. I don't think he'd joined anyone else for a local group ride before. I only remember he said he lived in Rancho Cordova, real near where we met before heading to the casino. He told me his forum name and I didn't really catch it, just his real first and last name, I believe, though I couldn't even remember if it was "Robert" or "Richard" something. Did notice he only was wearing jeans and sneakers, though, dammit.

I just tried calling the local CHP offices to see if I could get anything, but they're all closed now, including the big office for the Valley Division here in Sac. I'll try calling again in the morning. If I can get anything, I'll post it. And if any of you can add more, please do asap. Tom, thanks for the information, as bad as it was.

edited: Mike and Tom posted before I refreshed my screen. Not real sure, but I do think I'd have recognized if he'd said "Smellthat." Just glad to hear the latest news doesn't sound as bad as could be feared.
