Mike, we sent the phone with him along with his wallet and personal belongings in the ambulance. I only have his GPS, and Hycle has the extra helmet taken from the side-cases. I'm pretty sure his ability to check in is through his iPhone. I briefly used his phone to try to call his daughter at 3:10 PM, and when she didn't answer, I made sure the phone became part of the package going along for the helicopter ride. After he was transported, it didn't seem like a very good idea to leave the Garmin Zumo 660 on the bike since it is easily removed.

Aha....you WERE thinking clearly at that point!

I think Roger has the helmet and glasses, not Mike.

Regardless, things seem to be looking up for him.

FINALLY !! I'm back on line.............

And ..... just got back from Kaiser .... Me, Deb and Old Mike went to see Robert. Glad to report that he looks better than I expected. The way both him and the bike flew up in the air when he hit that rock, then the hard landing after, I expected worse, happily I was wrong. Still in a deal of pain -- ( remembers nothing after the casino lunch! )-- mostly his back and upper legs on his left side. He hurts real bad when he laughs, so guess what OM did ? What he does best  , but it was all taken well. Our patient has a sense of humor for sure. He sends thanks to all involved who tended to him before the Medics arrived. I'm sure he'd welcome phone calls - always good to get a call, unless it's an X-wife

OK --- just read the previous posts. Robert is now without a neck brace and doesn't repeat himself ............... except to say "don't make me laugh"... too bad OM only understands Gaelic :D

Glad to hear four of you made it over to visit today. I'll try to get over there tomorrow and return the GPS so he can find his way home.

Rog didn't mention that he and lovely, sweet Deb were first on the scene, and Deb was the first person to his side. Deb tried (at first by herself) to lift the

bike off his leg. Rog, after getting his bike stopped, was there immediately and they got the stinkin' bike off of him. Then the HYCLES were there and

Mike (HYCLE) began his "concussion quiz".

"Robert, look at me. How many penises do I have?"

Robert will certainly recover from his injuries, ...but not from the trauma of that quiz.

It was great seeing our boy in good spirits. We understand he'll be out of the hospital in a few days, and if his daughter can be reasoned with,

he'll have another FJR in no time.

Well, I guess if you're gonna crash, it's good to have some really great folks around... and OM too. :p

Glad to hear there is a happy ending (so to speak) for the most part. Good on everyone for helping out. Sending him healing thoughts. B)

Robert is working with a PT right now, but I followed up on his bike with Jackson CHP.

The bike is at Brusatori Enterprises / Chevon on Ridge Road at 49 (209) 267-5990. They charged $125 towing, $100 cleanup and $50/day storage. So with $375 in charges already pending, it's important to inform his insurance where the bike is. It will no doubt total, but the sooner it is off the lot, the better.

Talked briefly to Robert, and he is unsure if he will be released today or tomorrow. Memory issues are still a concern.

If memory issues are still a concern, can you remind him of the $20 he owes me?

j/k...

...it's $40...but I hate to take advantage of someone with memory issues.

j/k really. really. :)

Get well soon Robert! :clapping:

(and you too Tom!)

He posted on Facebook about 2 hours ago.....He's been released and he's headed home.

No, he's not alone, his daughter lives with him and he has great neighbors.

Sorry to hear this happened! Hope this turns out OK for Robert!

I gotta say, you guys attract too much attention.

My comfort zone gets pushed when the ride group gets above 3 riders.

I must be lucky to have a local phone list of people that I trust to ride with.

"If" somebody new shows up to one of the rides, there are 2 choices;

One; Personally avoid them like they have the plague.

Two; Surround them as a group and ride like you own a Piaggio and are an extra in a Tom Hanks Movie entitled; The Larry Crowne Affaire

Lastly if you "must ride" :dribble: , always go back to find them if they have fallen behind the group.

Best to you all in the New Year! <_<

I think "two" covers it, but shit happens.

Both myself and Hycle (2-up) went through the curve. Roger saw the wreck from behind, and has no explanation, but says the group was only doing 25-30 mph. Hycle saw the crash in his rearview mirror, hardly something that happens when pressing ahead hard. When I saw him turn around, I also reversed course, and drove past the crash to the curve apex to park the bike with E-flashers so no one would come around the curve and be surprised. We made the 911 call.

If you never ride in a group, no-one riding with you will ever crash. None of us were jeopardized by any other rider in the group. We had plenty of space, and rode our own ride. In 2011, I was on three other group rides where a rider wrecked. One failed to look left at an intersection and was taken out by failing to yield at a stop-sign...rider's fault. Another crashed off the left side of the road when a worn rear tire blew-out and seized in the fender. Rider's fault. The third was an FJR ride this fall when Russ was riding ahead of the group (alone), took a turn with loose sand in it too fast and low-sided to a high-side (rider's fault but he rode away). And to start 2012, this one...rider's fault.

I can give up riding with anyone else, and clearly the above suggests, you should not ever ride with me, but I put 22K miles on the bike last year. A lot of them in the company of good riders, and good friends. I mostly refuse to ride in AMA formation anymore, and prefer point-to-point riding; but I'm not ready to say, I will only ride alone.

To add my 2c worth. We weren't pushing it at all. If I remember, the corner is posted at 20mph. I was doing maybe 30mph and slowing for the turn, which was not a technical one. Robert was ahead of me and in no way looked to be going faster than me. I don't know why he missed the turn, but do know the result. Just glad he's OK and now at home.
