There is always the SE Ohio Ramble that happens in the springtime. Why not a "Fall Ramble"?
This is NOT related to EOM but if teachers wanna summer ride...yamaholic is organizing a "Ramble" for June of next year. Guaranteed good time and good roads.

Back to EOM...

Locating and scheduling EOM is a lot like arranging a family reunion. There's usually one or two houses that work best for the group and the event usually gets held there when it's best for the core group. Some years those that have a very hard time attending make special arrangements and show up. Most years they don't. There's frequent complaining and some minor bad feelings about always having it at Aunt Mary's house the week after Thanksgiving.

A very important issue for those of us that are typically involved in organizing the thing, is for US to remember to sit and listen, ask often, listen again, and make everyone comfortable expressing their wishes/preferences. I suffer from a listening deficiency as much as anyone.

As a frequent EOM participant, I would appreciate the event moving around in both location and timing, so that I can have the opportunity to explore other areas and meet new people. IMO it's nice to give those "relatives" that usually cannot make the event their fair shake at making it at least once every three years or so. I like to see how much hair they've lost too. :) And both financially and work vacation wise, it's difficult to make more than one big event each year.

I'm not saying that holding EOM in a different time slot is how it should always be. I'm not saying that's how it should typically be. I'm saying it might be nice to every once in a while, nudge things to the minority side in an effort to give everyone a fair shake. It could very well mean that I could not attend. That would suck for me and I will whine away if that happens.

If the decision is made to keep it the same weekend because that's what proves out to be the majority vote each year, then maybe I WILL help organize an "education and parents friendly" scheduled similar event every few years. I hope everyone will remember this thread when somebody says "That Ashehole is trying to run his own EOM and leave everybody else out!" Because just like any good ole family feud, somebody will just have to drink a little too much and say it.

:)

Overall, I can't help but feel that with the expanding demographics of FJR riders, we might be leaving more and more people out because of the typical time slot for EOM. But I sure as hell could be ALL WRONG. It wouldn't be the first time.

Now I'm going to shut up and practice listening again.

:)

Huh?

How can 2 EOMs be worse for anyone?

[edit] OK, wait, now. 52 EOMs would be a little too much

Perhaps we should go leaf peeping in October? How many folks would be for that? Ahhh, leaf peeping the Cherohala Skyway would definitely be my idea of fun.
Alan, it isn't always too hot in the southern states to go riding in August. Very often though, the humidity is absolutely stifling.

Ask OhioFJR1300... him & his wife came here this past August on their Goldwing. I warned them!
Heidi knows her **** about the humidity in Va. It was way more than we ever expected.

Apparently EOM is in Sept. I was there and I got some complaints. The weather was too perfect. The hotel sucked because they had a nice parking lot and they let people drink in the parking lot. And the roads, I swear I saw a piece of gravel somewhere. And my plate wasn't big enough.
Seriously, all I had to do was show up and drink beer and ride the FJR. I really appreciate all's efforts.

EOM is in Sept but eOM can be in August. Even 10 people going to Lewisburg to ride would be a good time. I doesn't have to be as planned as EOM. It can be a get together. And e2OM can be anytime someone wants to ride in WV. There is nothing better then riding the roads in WV. I have become a big fan.

Post something up and see what happens.

I like the way you think, Art!
+2 I'm hooked on the roads and hotel in Lewisburg. Lets do a mini eOM over Labor day weekend :clapping: :yahoo:

Well, for what it's worth I had a hell of a good time. This was the best put-together, most organized such event I have been to. It was a great job by all and the venue of WBGVA was the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ed, Lancaster, SC
I have been to the last 3 EOM events and each was great. I'm riding 700 miles from New England and I enjoy the September date. Kudos to everyone involved. I will go wherever and whenever the next EOM is held.

Having popped my EOM cherry this year, I'll commit to rididng wherever it happens in 09. Lewisburg & surrounding areas are great, and I definately want to ride there more, whether it's EOM, or any other excuse I can find.

The organizers did an outstanding job scheduling, structuring, and listening to more than a little whining. No event catering to hundreds of diverse people can please everyone, but I'm confident it met the needs of most.

I've been to a couple of 'user hosted' events, and by far, EOM was the best that I've ever been too. Regardless if EOM once again held in WV, I've already begun plans to return again next year.
Anybody down there excepting resume's for a computer programmer? :D

Well, if BUNGIE is going to make next year, I'll have to try my best to make it as well.

Your turn to get us lost buddy!

We weren't lost, we were exploring.

Hey, I just picked up a new 2730 that does routes, I'm good to lead next year and take the attending abuse :D I'm 99% positive a coworker with a 1200 Bandit will be coming down with me. He saw the pics and the vids and was PISSED he couldn't make it down.

In fact, I think he and I are skipping out of here today around 3 to go for a little ride +15C and sunny WOOT!

Labor Day Weekend? That is way too long to wait for another WV ride. I think that I'll go in a few weeks, instead.

I'd join ya Heidi, but I'm a little banged up at the moment...looking for a bike...and oh yeah...the 'ol "I'm short on vacation" thing. :)

65 degF tomorrow and WV an hour away. I got to go again. I can ride the same roads over and over there. The last adventure was with a buddy with a Honda ST. I followed for a short bit until I realized that he didn't "get it". I then drug him around WV. He now knows that we go there not for the "sites".

My other friends have cruizers. I am not sure why God even allows that class of bikes. I feel obligated to ask them if they want to go. I guess a leisurely ride through WV is better then none.

There is a motorcycle group in this area that is doing the Skyline Drive. I am not sure if I want to ride with 25 different types of bikes on a road posted at 35 mph when the leaves are nice and gas is cheap.

PM me if someone wants to go for a ride. I live in Manassas which is in the DC area (west of DC). It is supposed to be really nice tomorrow.

You obiviously have not met the right Harley rider yet...

Extreme,

I looked at the picture and it doesn't look like he is going to make it. God help him if he stands the bike up. It looks like he blew the twist. I can't imagine following him all day.

I got the friends I got and I am stuck with the bikes they got. Are you suggesting new friends?

I hope you and the wife are doing well.

That was me just prior to getting deployed to Iraq, got the FJR when I got home. Made the corner just fine. That's a pretty tight set of twists where killboy sets up on. There was nothing better than following a squid across the Gap until they let you by because they were holding you up.

You may not need new friends, just know that not all cruiser riders are slow pokes. There's days when I'm in the mode to loaf along, and days when I'm not. I had lots of fun on the Harley in W. NC prior to the FJR, you have to love the torque of a V-twin (when used) in the mountains.

ride hard,

Wayne.

Wayne,

I must say that your body position has improved radically somewhere along the line since getting your FJR, (comparing the spark show to your famous avatar picture).

PS - glad to see your feeling well enough to be posting again.

Owed to Mr. Keith Code and the California Superbike school class I attended in September 2007. Never stop learning; everyone owes it to themselves to get to an advanced level training course.

And now back on topic; So how far is my busted up self & spouse going to have to ride to see everyone next EOM? paging JWilly...

So great to read on all the planning of the next EOM. This year was the absolute best time I have ever had riding. I can't wait to do it again. I loved WV and would love to go back, but I know there are others out there who want to go somewhere else. Me, I will show up where ever it is. I love seeing some place new and adding it to the "list of must return to places". Besides, we are going to have to be there so Jason can take a cool picture of Wayne & I so I have a good picture for MY avatar. ;) Meeting up with all of you is going to be the best part, location will be secondary.
