No more Two Brothers exhausts in Kalifornia??

This is a statement from Two Bros.

Two Brothers Racing received a cease and desist letter from the California Air Resources Board today.

The state of California regulates motorcycle aftermarket parts that have the potential to impact emissions. Until further notice, Two Brothers Racing is unable to sell our products to anyone in the state of California due to the enforcement of these regulations by the California Air Resources Board.

Wonder if they'll do this to all manufacturers??

Yes...

Though bothersome, if you exceed the parameters of the written law I would think a slapdown wouldn't, nor shouldn't, come as a surprise.

Was wondering how long it would take kalifornia CARB to go after Two Bros like they went after Power Commander a few years ago.

Why is anybody surprised by this?

Seriously didn't see it coming?

It's not like there weren't warnings in the owner's manual and

on the exhaust, et al.

Given enough time and money Kali will eventually get everyone.

It's almost as if that state wants to go bankrupt.

It's too bad we can't say anything political in here. If we could, it would be fun to sarcastically comment that, 'While CARB frequently exceeds it's ability to do anything useful for us, and that Federal Standards can often do a better job for less money, at least CARB sees to it that we have some of the shittiest winter gasoline in the country.' Yea, that would be fun . . .

Time to relocate. We'd love to have them building their products in TX. The tax load is lower too.

Instead of limiting available parts, I've heard that next year they're just going to tell you what you CAN buy instead of what you can't. The only available model will be this electric scooter. MSRP is $21,999, but Kali will give you a $6,000 tax subsidy putting it right in line with the FJR.

You gotta love the "Left Coast" and they talk shit about the rest of the country

It sounds like they can still make the exhausts and sell them everywhere else besides California.
Yep, it's a Kalifornia thing.

But since kalifornia is the largest market for motorcycles Two Bros is going to lose a lot of business.

Sure, the law isn't a new one just the enforcement of it.

Political? yes , but it's strictly about motorcycles and it concerns all riders in Kalifornia

So many manufacturers have this problem. I haven't found the actual Executive Order so it's hard to know what they are enjoined from selling or doing. The also sell fuel controllers, and CARB doesn't think too much of changing the fuel maps on motorcycles either. From their FAQ:

6. Are aftermarket exhaust systems street legal? A. No, a common misconception is that some aftermarket systems are legal while others are not. Currently no City, State or Federally approved motorcycle aftermarket exhaust system exists in the U.S. market. Our exhaust systems are for racing purposes only.

I'm sad to see this turn of events, and moreso that its a precedent that is likely to extend to many if not all of the companies making aftermarket components related to exhaust and fueling, at least here in California (and eventually elsewhere).

At the same time it is surprising to me that it hasn't happened already. We are required to get cars emission-tested every 2 years, so I'm amazed that there are no requirements to test motorcycles at all. If they stick that one to us, then the market for aftermarket exhausts and fueling will largely disappear of its own course due to the trouble of switching back and forth for the purposes of the test.
