@ airboss - Fire Towers in Illinois
In the 70's the state asked for bids to remove all the Fire Towers. Finding one today will be the proverbial needle in a haystack.

" August 18, 1972: An advertisement was published in the 'Southern Illinoisan" for bids for the sale of this and seven other steel lookout towers on the Shawnee National Forest."

I don't think there are any fire towers in Utah any more. I know of one in AZ, but that wasn't on today's ride schedule. I did find a local farmer's tower. He sends his kids up on it when we have wild fires to see how close they are to the family farm. He's in a small low valley. No platform or ladder, they just climb it like fearless kids everywhere would.

If that's acceptable at this point, I have a new tag to post.

That's interesting. I've seen a few of those around here and always wondered what the heck that tower was for. I just always assumed it was a treehouse type thing without the tree for kids to play on, but maybe there actually is a purpose.

Bruced by the Forum!!

I had this tower photo to post after a ride yesterday, but the forum was screwed up for a while last night and I gave up trying...

The trees are looking all funny up north.

If you insist...

So the new thing to find is a water slide

It was in the 50's yesterday so there were no takers on the slide.

By the way, both the lookout tower and the water slide are up in the White Mountains, just down the street from this Historic location:

Hey...
That Tenere looks a whole lot like a Suzuki Vstrom.

What's up wit' dat?
Good eye Fred. The Super Ten has been away for an extended spa time at the dealer. The valves got too friendly with the pistons due to a worn/failed CCT. Made it home from the 8k mile Alaska/Yukon trip, went to take it to the dealer for the 78k valve check/adj and when I tried to fire it up, it made a bad noise.

YES is covering it, but it's been 11 weeks so far and they finally got the ok to order parts last week. I haven't heard about any B/O, so fingers crossed.

The WeeStrom is bike #3 for the garage, a '09 DL650A w/30k on it that we got cheap, pre-scratched. I bought it in Portland, OR and did a SS1K riding it home the first time I rode it. New chain and sprockets a couple of days ago and some other minor love before that, but it runs like a top. A little buzzy compared the the S10 or Feej.

Buzzy? Really... that is not something I hear too much about the Wees. I suppose the vibes on the Stroms are there, but at a lower, less aggravating frequency than the 4k rpm buzz of the Feejer.I-4. Between 4k and 6k my big Vee just sings along.

Back on topic: I took the ManStrom on my photo tag ride this weekend because my Russell is still being built (can't wait to get it) and I rode up to the Canadian border for an ADV tag (Jay Peak, VT) which was a full day's ride all told. At this point in time the 'Strom is a more comfortable mount. That stock FJR seat and I just do not get along well.

Now, something big you say...

Buzzy is relative. We have 80 mph speed limits here. Cruising at interstate speeds is ~5k+ rpm. Speedo being off is annoying. 5 mph at 50, 8-9 at 80.

My ZRX is 10% fast at all speeds. At least it's easy to adjust in your mind. Wanna do 80? Ride at an indicated 88. My 'oldwing was about 7% off at all speeds; now that was annoying ;)

Grab!

For something oversize, how aboot ... my avatar! Giant concrete corn cobs! A whole field of 'em! Fresh pictures taken just a little while ago.

New tag: a barn, with something 'interesting' painted on it. Around here, we have a carp-ton of barns that are decorated.

This specific one, visible to the west off of I-71 just north of Columbus, was painted to celebrate the great state of Ohio's Bicentennial.

Cool tag. I wonder if this was painted by The Barn Artist, Scott Hagan. He's from Ohio and this looks a lot like his other paintings. My wife hired him to come from Ohio to paint a huge logo on the barn for our church here in KY. He was about the same price as anybody local and we knew he could do a good job. He turned out to be a real pro and is a really nice guy, too.

Our sign is a little basic, but it's huge. I'll give it a few days before I tag it since there are probably some more interesting paintings out there.
