I'm in the beginning stages of planning a southern Ohio, and maybe Northern West Virginia ride for Saturday October 15. This is the height of the fall colors in the area.

We did a Spring Ramble...9 FJR's showed from IL, MI, OH, and KY. A blast was had by all. Fastfeejer led the way, mcarp (that's me, from the other board) was watching the six. All in all, fanstastic group of guys. Should have seen the other FJR's pass us on with a hug "WTF!!!" look on their face. The route will be forthcoming, but I guarantee everyone will be impressed.

This will be an all-day affair. 9am-7pm in all likelihood. Appx 350-450 miles of twisty, hill roads with some of the best scenery in the area. Afterwards...dinner/drinks at my house in Central Ohio. If folks want to stick around on Sunday, we'll go back out and ride more!

All skill levels and pillions welcome. We may break up into two groups depending on skill/preference. Make sure you have fresh tires and that your suspension is well adjusted! These are challenging roads that will require good equipment and attention.

Oh...before I forget...any local riders want to put a few riders up for the night?

I can host up to 4 riders. Wheaton, onedriver, and fjrescapertist have dibs since they were part of the first ride, and travelled some distance to get here from MI and IL.

Let the discussions begin..who's coming, where are you coming from, and what do you want to see?

Also, if anyone is up for an informal Ohio ride on August 27th or 28th, let's discuss that as well. I'm planning on a 400 mile twisty road ride that day with a "follow rivers/steams" theme.

Tagging on to this thread. I'm in Cincinnati and would love to join in the fun -- (Note: My participation is contingent on the "boss" and her plans  )

Sounds like a great trip!

Maybe bring her along? Or just put your foot down and declare " Daggummit, woman! Give me some space!!!".

It was hard to get riding time from the wife. Until she started riding herself. Now she understands... :hyper: :sad2:

Oh, don't get me wrong, she's not one of "those" types. :angry03:

I got really lucky, frankly. It's just we've got quite a few birthdays that month and I'm not sure if I'm committed to do something I don't know about. I'll keep the fingers crossed (for freedom AND good weather).

Mr. Yamaholic: (didn't realize you are the almighty mcarp till now)

I would love to go the fall Ohio ramble: I am salivating already from past memories.

Anybody who attended the CFO - the Ohio roads that will be featured on this ramble will flat out beat HANDS DOWN the Wisconsin roads around Lacrosse.

However, I must put myself down as a tentative for right now. I may not have any vacation days left after my 2 week new england mcy trip. I will let you know in a couple of weeks if I am able.

If I can be there -I WILL.

STRONGLY URGE any fence sitters from IL, IN, OH, MI, KY, TN, PA, WV to attend this great event.

Damn Mike, I just got back from WFO tonight...can you give a guy a break? Got the vacation worked down to 39 days now, looks like I'll burn some more in October. :D Will be changing fluids this weekend and cleaning beauty up after a full day of Minnesota rain Thursday. :(

Hey wheaton, ya interested in buyin' some of my vacation.... jus kiddin

Sounds good to me. If you get a chance, please post some route maps. I may want to scoot over there from western Indiana for grins and giggles!

@rocket: Route maps or no route maps...you WILL want to get there. I GUARANTEE that mike/yamaholic will take you on some of the best roads.

These are roads worthy of a national FJR meeting...some of you other spring attendees can attest to this or not. This is my opinion.

If the ezboard hacker hadn't deleted some of the pictures from the spring ramble, you would be able to view them there. Maybe I will try to post some pictures again...I think scooter cruzer mentioned using photobucket as a webpage to post from.

Coooool.

If work and family permit, I'll try to be there.

Wife and I did the Fall ride with you guys couple years back.

Major league roads down there. Nothing in Indiana can touch it.

Taking the wife to EOM, so maybe I'll do OH solo.

I may not want to WAIT until October. Let us in on the goodies NOW. ...pretty please!

I wouldn't mind doing an overnighter out and back to WV between now and then.

Any tips are greatly appreciated. Also waiting for the OFR info! WOOHOO!

Brett-Your welcome to stay at my place if you can make it since you were so gracious to open your home, hosting the midwest tech day. Speaking of EOM, I wish I could go, but that's my anniversary weekend. Even though the Ohio roads are nice, the smokeys are better. Oh, and speaking of tech days, I need to host of those sometime as well!

Rocket- tell you what...once I get this project done at work, I'll post a full route. Should be in a couple of days. Or just come on down Sat Aug 27 or Sun Aug 28 and I'll show you around as I am DEFINITELY going out that weekend.

Also I'll be taking about 3 days to go riding in KY/WV/S OH over the following weekend (labor day weekend). Thinking Sat-Mon.

You interested in any of these dates?

Yep, I sure am interested in ALL those dates. Let Mother Nature pick which ones. Where you located? As in starting point? I'm in Western Indiana (Terre Haute), so it'll take me a while to get over there. But I could probably jam over there on a Friday night, hook up with you and ride all day Sat, then come home on Sunday.

And so far I have no plans labor day weekend. So I may just run over your way. Which is why I was being pushy about the routing. I'm getting antsy. New tires, Wilbers installed, farkled to the hilt, just got back from the Dragon. I have a renewed lust for riding! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

What the hell?!? Are we Virginians not invited?
I'm reasonably sure Wheaton did not mean to exclude VA (or NY for that matter). I say this as first he's a damn nice guy and probably wouldn't say that, also coming from Illinois, Virginia seems like a ways off from OH for a day ride. But in truth, I am 399 miles from the BRP head in Waynesboro, less than Chicago to Columbus!!

Absolutely you are welcome to attend! Although I'm not sure you'll be quite as impressed as us "Northern Flatlanders" ;) The views are not quite as nice (ie overlooks), but the roads are right up there with anything in VA. Not to mention the cool factor of tearing it up with your fellow FJR bretheren!!!

:punk:

Oh, yes...Rocket...............dude..........let's ride!!!

I'm game for both dates, as you said weather will dictate things. PM me to xchange contact info.

I was just giving you midwest guys some grief. ;)

Ohio really isn't THAT far away from Virginny... I'm reasonably sure I can make the October ride. Will let you know a bit later on. I'm not going to be able to make an end of August trip out there though, so y'all have fun on that one if it works out. :)

yeah smthng: I wouldn't leave anybody out. Fastfeejer and yamaholic will treat you guys to a good ride - no matter where you're from.

BTW, I head out for New England on september 10th and will be touring VA battlefields for a few days at the end of the trip which terminates in Wheaton, IL September 25th. I know you'll have fun at the eom in September. I'll have to get there next year.

Mike,

Pencil me in for the 15th.

Maintenance meet idea: I have a suspected ticker.

Interested in checking the valve clearances on a suspected ticker?

It would be a valuable meet indeed, if everyone saw (and heard) a ticker being diagnosed. Of course, I would want to carefully document for warranty reasons.

(like record TDC gap for each cyclinder)

Would probably need to time that carefully though, since we would need a cold motor. Maybe, roll in on Friday and hit it very early Saturday before the ride?

I'll probably have almost 19k mls by the time mid-October gets here.(17K now)

I'd like to hear your alleged ticker. How long would it take out of the AM to check your valves? That sounds like a handfull!

Of course I'll probably get to hear it at EOM? If not on the way down?

Just my .02:

Seems like the maintenance meet would have to be scheduled for a different date IMO. The ride is going to be going all day IIRC.
