...............and remember, even if the filter goes into bypass, the oil that is provided the engine is still filtered (previously filtered, so still clean), just not currently being filtered. So unless the filter is in bypass an inordinate amount of time, there should be no problems.

Except that the pick-up is near the bottom of the sump, sucking up oil that's being stirred, vibrated, generally fairly violently disturbed. Any crud in the sump that can get through the pick-up strainer, will.
