I had a fair amount of work done at the dealership including valve clearance check (all well within specs), swap to the new Yamaha design CCT, front fork service, throttle body sync, everything lubed, etc.

Bike started up and the left headlight was out. Right light is on. Both go on when brights chosen.

I ***-ume it is just after 3+ years and 30K miles a bulb blew. My questions: Even if a connection is loose from the service somehow, should I just swap in a new bulb, and if so should I just go for broke and replace the other one too?

I looked in Section 8 of the service manual, but it just says check fuses (OK) and replace bulbs as necessary. I have followed a few threads about bulb options, and I think I'd probably just go with stock. At the risk of getting flamed, does one bulb do duty in each housing as low and high beam?

Anything else I should consider? This sounds like about as easy a problem as they get, but want to buy the new bulbs correctly. The only dealership left standing in Roseburg is a Kawi dealership, and the backup mechanic (who does NOT touch my bike) told me only one bulb is supposed to light up in low beam. So I don't really trust his advice.

Thanks in advance.

OK OK, it isn't Friday but I will accept some **** if necessary BARRY ;)

Sorry, but Bust is busy shaving his taint.

Whether to do in pairs has been discussed less than a week ago here and many, Many, MANY times before that. It's NEPRT fodder now.

The H4 bulb contains both high and low filaments.

Thank you gentlemen.

Sorry all, the comparison matrix would have told me what I needed to know, if I had the patience to look further.

Change 'em both..

I did the left side then ended up doin' the right 2 weeks later, in the dark.. without a flashlight, while the rain came down :(

You're lucky to get three years anyway, I usually get about a year, maybe a little over that, then one blows out. But then I run with my brights on because I want cagers to see me!

You're sharp as a tack, ain't ya boy?

(But, you know I love ya, Sylvia. :D )
It is just as well Bust did not have a flashlight, because you know where he would have inserted it. Change them both SPU!

Listen, Sylvia, why would you bother stopping in the dark, in the rain, to replace a burned out bulb when the one you'd replaced two weeks EARLIER could have got you come okay?

Didja think the Feej couldn't operate on one bulb?

You just silly stoopid, ain'tcha?

And in anticipation of your reply, I'm gonna get a step ahead of ya...

Barry, I usually run my high beams in daylight to be seen better, and if a bulb burns out, it will usually be the high beam element still allowing me use of the low beam. Yes, it sounds like you got a lot of wear out of a set of bulbs. Put two better ones in now. I have used Philips Vision Plus and will continue until my current stock/spares is gone and then will try the newer Xtremes.

Damn Howie, you know my ailments. Thought about changing "my blown out bulb" a long time ago but just can't help feeling sorry for the poor *******. Ya know, for anyone that

doesn't see the obvious, he also has some mental challenges. (Shh!! I don't bring that up around him. It always make him cry.)

:D

I only change the bulb that's actually burned out. As simple as they are to change, I have yet to find a compelling reason to swap out a good bulb simple 'cuz it's counterpart is out. Just my .02.
