Ok -- I had to try to do something positive as this will be my one thousandth post.
Photo's of how to get under the tank to do the TBS (Throttle Body Sync), and/or Throttle Return Spring, and other things (plugs etc.)

Documented for Gen II (2006 and 2007)
You da man, Rick!! Did the TBS yesterday, your photos made it so much easier. I did loosen the rear tank bolt, much better. And, since my workshop has exposed trusses, I simply wrapped a bungee cord around one of them and hooked it to the front of the tank to hold it up. No muss, no fuss.

Thanks again!!

G'day,

Did the throttle spring last night and Murphy's law jumped in again. Spring jumped around 2 turns and throttle would not return at all. Much time spent on threading some tie wire around the pivot and hooking up the return spring hook and pulling it back around one turn :dribble: .

But finally worked, spring now returns slowly to rest position. Will flush cables on the weekend and see if that helps.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Make sure that the rubber grip is not causing drag on the throttle housing or the bar ends. I wasted about 30 minutes problem solving slow throttle return when the only problem was drag from the hand grip. Pushed it in from both side to leave clearance and it fixed my problem. Took 15 seconds.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out this afternoon.

Cheers

Thanks Rick.
Am getting ready to tackle this myself and this is greatly appreciated.

Ok I have two questions. One ,how do you know if you have to do a Trottle Body adjustment? What are the symptoms? Second, why make the adjustment on the Trottle return spring? What does it do to make the bike ride better?

Thanks in advance for answeres.

Mick

Thanks Rfulcher, did the trick and saved me a lot of angst, but still have to flush them cables out soon, the rainy season has nearly finished here and need smooth operating cables.

Nightshift. The spring adjustment is so that you don't need as much power to hold thew throttle in one position on long rides and get fatigued.

Rickster, Thank you for the post. I appreciated especially the TSR photo's as I had lifted the tank many times previously. That TSR is hard to see and had it not been for your excellent photo's I probably would not have ever found it. Thanks again...

I have one comment on T-bar torque values...

I was just under the tank of my Gen I last night (spark plugs) and the service manual says that- for Gen I bikes at least- that should be tightened to 56 ft/lbs, considerably more than the 27 ft/lbs mentioned here. This may be a difference between Gen I and Gen II bikes... but that's what I see.

Awesome write-up and very helpful. My Carbtune Pro arrived from the UK Thursday and I set to work. Got the sparkplugs changed out and did the TBS. Besides "hearing" the difference I could "smell" the difference in the exhaust.

thanx again,

Paul

Thanks so much glad I asked, oviously this is a on going problem . I will give it a try tomorrow.

thanks again

Cruiser :yahoo:

I don't remember seeing any images of the spring after it has been unwound 1 turn, but for some reason I had it in my mind that the spring would still fully seat against the tang again. As you can see here it does not when the throttle is in the fully closed position, but the grip twist pressure is slightly better and the throttle still snaps back against the stop. Works fine but it just put a lump in my throat at first. Something I thought was worthy to pass along. If I take off my glasses it looks just fine.

Edited 6/27: Revising my slightly better comment to much improved.

I just acquired an 07 and I've noticed the throttle is tighter than I like.

Your post speaks to releasing the TRP one turn. Is this specifically to release some tension on the throttle grip?

Steve

I must be on a prepetual DSA (dumb **** attack). Where are the pics. I see so many posts that say they have pics and I can never see them. Is there a trick to it?

Don't know any reason why you shouldn't see the pictures, they are standard jpegs that all browsers can show.

Do you see pictures from other sites?

The couple of pictures I added (post 30) sit on my own web site in my study. While it has been known to go off line for short periods (usually due to power outage in the house for one reason or another), it's normally serving 24/7.

If you can't see this:

then I think you have a problem at your end.

If you still have a problem, go to my web site. This should give you pictures. In the heading info, it will tell you your IP address (look for something like "caller IP Adr: 79.76.193.237". If you let me know that address, I can tell you what my server does with your request, including the picture requests.

This thread's useless without pictures.

I would rather see a post of pictures for "How to get under her tank top"

first tighten up with burbon bolts, that will loosen any snaps you may encounter . then be ready with oil ! them tanks look pretty tight and may require LOTS of lube to get off easily , once under tank i think the rest will come without furter instruction! have fun

And don't forget to have your Johnson Rods and Norton bolts ready for installation when you get the tank up. :D
