I agree with TWN and Jeff, the BT021's bite. I am at less than 4K on new ones and the fronts look like I have been doing motocross on them.
I had the same experience with Moto-X on the BT-021 M.A.C. 'Course, it turns out my Avon Storm front used the same M.A.C. compound. Onto PR2s for me.

Mike, I don't know what the "brick and mortar stores" are like where you live.....<snippage>.....Until that changes, I'll buy my tires off the internet and install them myself.
I understand, I do the same thing myself and I have a tire machine and balancer in my garage. THAT isn't the issue in the discussion on this thread.

The parameters of this thread are set by the author of the original post, "Uncle Timmy", himself:

So, for those of you who bought your RS's through your brick and mortar dealer, how much did you pay for just the tires? Don't include mounting and balancing.
Because TWN doesn't do his own tires but purchases from a "walk-in" retailer so HE is using the above guideline for comparison because his local dealer no longer gives the deal they once did.

End of hijack.

I priced both roadsmarts and PR2 rears last week 165 and 179 respectively. But the shop owed me so I got a PR2 installed for 87 bucks.Buy five get one free.... this was number 6.
The local shop I use is actually A large metal building with no brick or Mortar.

But they seem to be resonable on the tires and better than most on the mount.

15 bucks mount and balance if you bring the wheel.

40 rear and 30 front if you bring the bike.

The tire prices are competative, Cheapest non internet place in town in my experience. And they do good work so far.

I was in a hurry on the above PR2 I had been buying cheaper fronts and a couple of Avon rears. So they averaged the cost of the first five and gave me 140 towards the new tire.... and I just had them do the whole thing 40 bucks for the rear mount and tire was what ever was left.

To be clear: He does not extend the same discounts as the rest of the tires to the Road Smart. I'm just trying to establish a baseline with which to negotiate. I'd truly prefer to support the dealer, but I ain't keen on having a tire iron rammed up my ass, either.

So a tire iron is out...

hmmm

...maybe the 4 iron, a 3 wood or a sandwedge perhaps?

Hey thanks for thinking of me...but I think you've been abusing that finger long enough...arthritis has got to be kicking in soon and I'm tellin ya...if you don't watch it yer gonna get it stuck in the "up" position.

What's yer wife gonna say when you greet her in the morning that way??? Yer headed fer trouble...it's bound to bite sooner or later. :clapping: :)

FWIW, Cyclegear has a 20% off anything-in-the-store coupon in their flyer. It's good through May 30 and should be sittin' at the counter when you walk in.

EDIT: The coupon's only good for one item. So you'll have to get just a front tire with it, then make a second trip from the parking lot while bitching about how forgetful you've gotten lately.
