That would make me nervous...Had a Sazook with a similar defect in the head on an oil passage and it eventually did start spraying an oil mist [naturally on a 1200 mile trip back from Daytona-had to wear a rain suit all the way back]. Perhaps a good welder could build that back up.

This sure has come a long way from the weathered old bike sitting at the Honderosa. Great work Ray.

It's coolant so there is little pressure. With the gasket in place that spot is not part of the sealing surface. It appears to be a casting flaw rather than erosion and there is no sign of any galvanic action anywhere else in the engine.

Welding isn't really an option IMHO because to much heat that close to the cylinder liner would probably kill the o-rings and they are a one time deal. The liners are pressed in at the factory and then machined flush with the block. It's not recomended to mess with them.

If it does leak I'll just throw some stop leak in it and call it good.

I'm gonna disagree here.

I think this can be welded. I believe a good TIG man can fill that hole once it's been dremmel-ed out a little, without distorting the cylinder liner. That large pocket that separates the damaged area from the cylinder sleeve will effectively prevent warpage issues near the sleeve.

I will survive.

However, I will agree that some JB weld should fill the hole pretty well and will probably suffice. The damaged area looks to be far enough from the sleeve and its heat to allow the repair to survive.

You might be right but I look at a pretty good TIG man in the mirror every morning and he isn't willing to take a chance on screwing up a part that is very hard to replace.

It's been my experience with aluminum castings that have been around chemicals the sucess rate on welding goes down. Aluminum is porous and tends to absorb stuff that gets ugly when hit with a TIG torch. YMMV

............main underlying question...........why is reno911 on an fjr which sits on a trailer?

You simp ***!! That's Adam " galaxy Blue" here..

Reno is ghey'r lookin' .... Actually I don't think he really exists much like Scooter.

They both had a month plus to make a date with me this fall, and neither did.

I say both **** ain't real.
