Thanks for keeping us updated on the progress you two. That Kawi looks like quite the 6 cylinder...put a propeller on it and could have been designed by Hans & Dieter.

Looking forward to the reassembly process!

Quick update - after consulting with Ray, we've decided to powder coat all cases previously painted. It cost a bit more, but will last longer and look better too. Ray's going to tape all up to make sure abrasive doesn't get where it shouldn't be. The head is being shipped back empty for prep and powder coat. After coating, will be sent back for work.

Ray found specs for crankshaft end play, .020, we measured .008 so all is good. He also found chain(s) spec and is looking to see where we are!

Onward and upward!

I felt so inadequate tearing down the tiny single cylinder DT 100, I never even took pictures.

Ya know for as many bikes I've torn down over the years, that 6 cyl monster would intimidate the **** outa me..

Digital cameras sure are great for projects like this. Back in the dark ages I used Polaroid pictures.

Barry you are inadequate for most things but the sheep love you.:)

Ok I know about the sheep.. What about yer Goats? Any chance when I come back they still want me?

Update. Got the ceses back from the first stage of powder coating. I now have to mask everything with hig temp tape for the color coat and baking at 400 degrees. Carver has pictures so maybe he will post some.:)

Will try to do tomorrow. 2 days off then off to prison for 2+ months.

But it *does* pay the bills..

What does hi-temp tape look like? Never heard of it before?

You will see it in the next set of pictures. I'm getting ready to start taping now. I want them back at the shop Tuesday AM.

Here's the latest on KZ1300 project...

(and I can't say enough good things about Ray, fellow FJR peeps!)

A bit of progress..

New bolt kit. All fasteners will now be shiny and not looking like ****.

The powder coated cases look absolutely ******* Gorgeous!

This is where attention to detail pays off - all of Ray's careful and tedious taping shows in the final product...

If te Pix are 80% of how good it looks 'live' I am stoked!

First minor issue -

The first apparent problem with this rebuild - a bit of weakness in the cylinder head around a water jacket. Ray thinks it was exacerbated by the sandblasting process.

Speaking of shine, is it time to start buffing the alum cases?
I think it's probably time .
Ray, I think it was Zorker on the fjrforum that had a polishing biz...

If he doesn't peep up, look locally in your hood - I appreciate spending funds in both the fjrforum hood and local membership hoods..

Say, are you ready to start on project #2?

Don
