Another great day.

Rob and Tom did some bike maintenance and a short ride. I rode up to Tofino with Yamafitter. What a beautiful area and ride. Saw the Pacific Ocean for the first time at Long Beach and visited the MacMillan Cathedral Grove of old growth forests.

This is the tallest tree in the grove, its 27 feet around at its base and is estimated to be about 800 years old. That means it was here before Columbus.

This woman when asked if I could take her pictures said "Sure, I'm wildlife!"

Jeff's thought bubble says............

"Terry, get the **** outta my shot!"

Rob, Tom and Bill (Yamafitter) and I left in the sun this morning aiming for Gold River. It soon clouded over and began an all day drizzle with temps in the high 50s. Did we care? HELL NO!

After a couple of photo stops along the Straights of Georgia we turned west at Campbell River (home of the ever vivacious Barb) down Hwy 28, which Destination Highways ranks as number 4. Except for a couple of spots of construction (no traffic back up.. just gravelled bits about 40 feet long) the road is all that is promised and more.

We stopped at Strathcona Provincial Park for a break and too take some pics.

Oh, Jeff (FJRGuy) violated the elk. Apparently Dolly was just to worn out. And yes, their are pics.

The reason we stopped? Well DUH.

IMG_0324.jpg

While I was taking the lake pic we heard a couple bikes roosting through the corners so I ran across the road and caught Jeff and Ian ambush style:

Followed immediately after by Griff:

We stopped at the Gold River Golf Course (shocked me to see that there... picture a timber town with a population of about 2000...) We grabbed a bite to eat and decided to beeliner back to the Condo at the Ocean Trails Resort as the rain and cold temps were threatening to get worse.

The accomodations... skylights, fireplace, full kitchens and NOT cheap furnishings. If your ever out this way. Stay here!

Tomorrow, the three amoebas (Barry will get an ass kicking on the way home from NAFO for that one...) check out for Victoria then onto leg two to Taos! I found out that one of our stops will have to be missed. Apparently Hells Canyon had a nasty slide and is closed. Guess that means we save a couple of hours that we can spend in Zion or the North Rim..

Don't worry Scott, we just were without Internet last night..

Big thanks to Al (Feeger) and Dave (Niehart) for stopping by with vittles on Sunday morning. It went from beer and toast to Chocolate Chip Pancakes, Potatos and Veggies with Sausages. Yum.

We peeled out in the rain and headed for Victoria via Lake Cowichan. We pulled into Victoria and Rob's wifes uncle put us up for the night but not after giving us a thorough tour of the City.

First stop was the Empress Hotel for a cup of tea:

High tea (not really, but this hotel is famous for it)

We then walked across the road to a park with some huge Haida Totems:

and the Provincial Parliament buildings:

After our tour we stopped by Wally World so I could by another camera to use on the bike (I forgot my little point 'n shoot!) and sat down to a HUGE dinner of roast chicken, lasagna, fresh salad, garlic bread and topped it off with some homemade Peach pie and ice cream... erp.

We all ended up in bed by 10pm after the huge meal.

Up this morning we rode to Sidney to catch the ferry to Anacortes WA. We were way early but our ship finally came in in the fog:

We didn't get to see much of the San Juan islands because of the fog.. so we dozed on the ship.

A short time after landing we got on to Hwy 20 across the North Cascades. WOW. I have a new favourite road.

First pic is the Hydro Electric dam on the Skagit river:

It seemed like every corner I was snapping pics. I'm only posting a handful but trust me, Hwy 20 between Marblemount and Winthrop is a must do!

I'd so love to ride this road again but it's not to be, we need to make tracks.

Winthrop is a very well done tourist trap and the local ladies are a hoot! I'm tempted to head back to the bar and see if Dee-anne is still there >)

Tomorrow we make our way to the Interstate and make track for Utah.

Ol Mike n Scott. I'm too effing lazy to post. I'll let Steve and Tom post up. They're using most of my pics anyway, just not giving me credit.

Rob

Wow Steve! Stunning photos, they look like postcards.

So I thought there was to be some camping on this trip. Where are the tents? Where are the campsite pics?

Are you still in the lead Steve? Or have the other amoebas mutinied.

How bout a little video of Hwy 20 when you get a chance. It looked like a perfect day when you were on it.

Safe travels and keep the report coming! It gives me something to look forward to while I'm sanding drywall.

Boring **** as always, Steve.

Ride safe, and keep the pics coming!

And remember - the next time you have a huge meal like that, keep us in mind and show us some food porn, mm-kay?

I think thats my favorite shot so far guys!!! Keep up the good work!!

Not many pics today as we hauled much ass out of Winthrop WA to Boise Idaho. Long hot day that started out in the low 40's and eventually got into the mid 80's.

Crossing Washington was a real eye opener. I always thought it was all mountains and trees. Nuh uh! Inland is high desert and much much farmland.

We crossed into Oregon where again I was in shock at the landscape.

IMG_0023.jpg

We also ran down beside the Columbia River through the Gorge for a while:

IMG_0020.jpg

Eventually we climbed up the mountains in Oregon and in to Idaho. My god, what a boring ride!

Tired now, need some sleep... tomorrow, into Utah with Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park.

Didja ever get Tom and that big black cock offa that totem?

yeesh, what a cock ****!
