The thing that has always amazed me about this forum is the fact that some of the regulars will take time to read the topic heading, take time to open up the thread, take time to read the FNG's thread/question and then tell him not to ask a stupid question and to go do a search.....What the **** is the point of that. If it annoys you that a noob is asking an already asked question then don't open the thread in the first place and certainly don't bother responding with an answer that makes us all look like a bunch of unfriendly assholes to a person we know nothing about....I'm positive that there are many of us on here that have received one of those traditional "welcome" responses and the ones that say they haven't on this forum have certainly got it on another.

If you want to spoon feed people who refuse to try and help themselves, go ahead. Start a thread "New users questions gently answered here". Then, you can gently answer all of those questions. That will probably work better than having The "New Forum Members" section positioned right at the top of the FJR Forum page. [/sarcasm]
