Maybe it has to do with size or strength or coordination or something?
Are you bike droppers little fellas? Do you trip over the crack in the sidewalk alot?
I'm just over 5'10", 190, in pretty good shape, have always been athletic and could flat foot every bike I've owned/dropped. BUT -- there's no substitute for being 6'5" and 250 (in which case you have some room to get your legs into it). Nearly every one of my drops has been a set down where I slipped on gravel or sand when I didn't expect it and got the bike past that critical point. My first one on the FJR was when the "defective kick stand" was not fully extended, though. Once I get a 550+ lb bike leaning too far at a stand still, I can hold it for a minute, but wishing I could dead lift the bars with straight legs from that position just hasn't gotten it done. Leverage is a wonderful thing, except when you don't have it.

Man, how did you shave 50+ pounds off your FJR?
Hey -- like I said, I've dropped ALL of them (Inline 4s) since the Beezer vibrated all the feeling out of my hands. :assassin:

I figure that both my XXs weighed just over 550 wet, though the '03 lost some weight with aftermarket wheels and exhaust. Yep, dropped both of them.

Hmmm, now that I think of it, the top heavy KLR thumper is the I-4 exception and doesn't weigh that much. Of course, I've dropped it, too. Trust me -- it's a hedge against crashing to scuff up your plastic from time to time that way.

Today I took my new FJR to get its 600mile service. All was going well and then, ......the service writer came to me and said we've got trouble.......My thoughts started racing, heart started to pound thinking what in the hell is he going to say and......... WE DROPPED YOUR BIKE...Thinking quick, I asked if he was joking is this April Fools day...He said no, do you want to take a look at it. NO **** I want to see it, I thought to myself. As we walked to the service area he said that the tech tripped over a hose and it fell on its right side. Exactly 2 weeks I owned this bike and complete dismay.
The owner was there and talking to the service writer and did not even come to me and say anything...That is the most disconcerting thing of the whole thing. I quite honestly don't want the bike anymore, call me a cry baby or what ever, but now due to dealership negligence, I have a brand spankin new bike that has been dropped. If I were to try and sell it, what's the first question anyone asks,...has it been down.....Now I can't say no.

Couple other things happened to really make me wonder if YAMAHA is a quality company. Have been bleeding blue ever since I had my M1 endorsement, maybe its time to go red. Will wait and see how this shakes out, but it doesn't give me the warm fuzzies right now.
I thought that was going to happen at my 600 mile service a few months ago. As you know, it takes a lot of practice to control how the computer will control the clutch on an AE. Of course, most dealers do not see a lot of AE's. Anyway, they sent out a 16 year old kid to pull my AE into the shop. He starts it up and starts gassing it while walking aside the bike. I was amazed that he controlled that clutch and did not get the bike running away from him in what was probably his first experience with a "clutchless" bike. I did carefully check the sliders for scratches when I got the bike back. I will never move my bike unless I am astride it rather than aside it since you have more control.

I did later learn how easy it will be to drop my AE. I was backing it out of the garage and then I had the feeling of one of my feet sliding out from under me like it was on ice or oil. What led me to almost dropping it was a small 2 inch stick which was round like a dowel rolling under my foot. I strained several muscles rescueing it. :eek:mg2:

I always think this is funny. You have a strong, muscular bike. It is capable of soaring through a corner at remarkable speeds and g-forces. Can fly down roads with giant potholes. Can take amazing amounts of abuse. But oh! Let it slowly drop a short distance and Oh My! It may be broken and misaligned! Heavens! Is it really that weak?

sucks they dropped it. Great they'll fix it. Go ride.

At least it wasnt backed over by a Ford Econoline extended van by a gal

that stopped only to ask directions at the yammy dealer in Prosser WA. 8/2/08

I must say I was rather horrified looking out the dealer window to see

my 07 FJR resting nicely like a tripod on my motivation slider and of course the factory

rear slider called a saddle bag.

Damage: Left foot peg snapped clean off, mirrors damaged, Muffler gouge, Bag scratched to hell,

slider was buggered up but did its job. Scuffs on the front fender. Body work seems to be fine.

Desert Valley Powersports in Prosser replaced foot peg at no charge, FREE of charge!

I beleive they had to pull it from a showroom bike, none in stock. Great guys their!

Thats a dealer!

Do I think the bikes integrity, geometry has been compromised, Hell No!

Get over it! They will fix it "Ya big Nancy!" I say this in jest of course, no offense intended.

And yes...she had insurance! Cops wouldnt come out due to it happening on private property.

OK this thread is been hashed and re-hashed I was over it the next day. Once the initial WTF shock wore off and such I realized it wasnt that bad, so it was a ***** session and thats all.

But like I said before, there is a big difference between ME dropping it and someone else's inept, careless work ethics that got me riled, thats all.

Time to move on and ride some pig tails!
