Herr Wheatie, are you a gambling man? Do you like to wager a bet now and again? Feeling lucky, eh?

Would you like to bet your Papa Chuy on the odds that our Smitty will have one of these by year's end?
I would bet - and win - that Smitty will have a new MCY by year's end.

He's changes bikes like you change your underwear.

Fahrvergnugen!!
At least once a year?
Hey Blind Squirrel, I was in the US Army, not the Marine Corps! Four days to each underwear change: Front, back, inside and outside!

That's the coolest damn front end on a production bike since the GTS-1000... now I want one just for that! T'aint partin' with 25 large though.
It's actually an old picture from an earlier bike, not the 1600 specifically. So get a nice used one!!!! :)

For cool, though, I'm partial to the Tesi-2D. Nothing to do with BMW, but the Starship Troopers look of this thing is striking.

What he failed to mention was after Front, Back, Inside, Outside the "Change" was, Now change with the person standing next to you.

Yep, there is absolutely no doubt about it, Scotty is a Squid; Only The Navy! Of course, if it was the Air Force or Coast Guard: They get their skivvies from Victoria's Secrets and they are pressed daily! jes' sayin' and nuff' said!

I signed out the new red K1600GTL and SkootyG signed out a new Kawasaki Concours C-14.
I tend to root for the underdog and had to laugh at the pics because of the Kawi positioned far in the background. Anyone looking to adopt a red-headed step child?

Impressive review Don. Recent reviews of the K1600 in moto mags was touting the light steering too. I just figured it was moto journalists hyping the bike, trying to play down the weight. Apparently not. One reported 60-0 braking at 117'. Damn!

Denver_FJR: I did not report this over at the AZ Beemers website, because I didn't want our BMW Salesman Steve to see it, but SkooterG did some "hard core" brake testing on that big blue K1600GTL. Son of a *****, if I had not been trailing a long way back, I would have rear ended SkootyG. That Beemer stops that damned fast!!!

I took a white GT outfitted with Akropovic cans for a ride last Saturday...at Sandia BMW

Once underway...GT felt as light as my FJR and was easliy as manuverable up to around 90. The bike was easy to manuver...However around 90, the bike really wanted to go straight. Doing the little weave in the lane thing was hard to do at that speed. Not sure if its due to the weight, wheelbase, or a combination of things. Changing lanes and making turns was easy, but weaving the bike at that speed took more work. At slower speeds, it just fell whichever way I wanted it to go.

When it comes to (most) M/C magazine reviews, I try to "read between the lines"...

In the latest Sport Rider, Sir Alan says: "...with minimal rider effort the BMW changes direction in a very assured and confidence-inspiring way."

I read that to say -- this bike kind'a resists changing direction at speed (really wants to just go straight). That's the way full-on touring bikes often act; for any bike with any 'sporting intentions' -- not so good.

In this case the motorags got it right.

I was SHOCKED at how light the steering was and how quick handling the bike was. SHOCKED. When I started doing my side-to-side serpentine quick transitions to test the steering/handling it freaked me out the bike handled so quickly. Took me a bit to get used to it. A bike that big is not supposed to handle like that! In fact, it was so light and quick in the steering and handling that the C14 felt like a brick afterwards. I mean the C14 is lighter and supposed to be the more sporty bike, right? It felt like a lead brick in the handling department after riding the GTL. I was dumbfounded.

The ABS brakes were incredible on the GTL. Hauled the bike down quickly with no drama. You could barely feel the ABS working. A smooth and seamless system. I will say as close to ABS perfection as it can get. Again, much better than the C14's abs system. It didn't feel as sophisticated/seamless.

The only thing I was not totally *wowed* by was the motor. I was expecting more. No doubt it is powerful, and incredibly smooth. Great torque. But with the HP numbers I was expecting a bit more of a *WOW* factor. But, it was not in the 'dynamic' engine mode which is the most powerful. It was in one of the other modes and I couldn't figure out how to change it. I bet that would make a bit of difference. And don't get me wrong, the motor is still wonderful. I think partly is that it is deceptive as it's so smooth. I will say it has a nice growl from the stock exhaust - mi ******* step pappy asked me if I thought it was illegally loud. HA! Don't worry, it's not that loud at all, just a nice growl.

As for the C14, the only thing I really liked about that bike was the extremely firm front brake lever feel. It was without a doubt the most choppy ride of any motorcycle I have ever ridden. Mi ******* step-pappy said the same thing. I am assuming the suspension was just adjusted terribly and can be rectified with some time and effort, but wow, it was a really unpleasant ride on any pavement that was not glass smooth. I also did not like the aggressive riding position which I assume can be at least partially rectified with some risers or something.

Outstanding Ride Analysis SkooterG, much better than your illegitimate ******* Step Daddy could write; Bravo, Excelente! When I get my BMW K1600GT, I'm going to swap bikes with Richard Fairlaner. Want to see what The Queen Mum thinks of it, after he's taken it on "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!"! Kawi C-14 sucked a choad, big time!

How was the cockpit air pocket for smoothness/buffeting? Do you believe there will be any need to farkle the **** out of the thing in order to get it "perfect"?

Blind Squirrel, On the day SkooterG and I tested the BMW K1600 it was 95F degrees here in Phoenix so I was just wearing my 3/4 HJC helmet, instead of my usual Schuberth C2. There was absolutely no buffeting at all and it was as smooth as glass in the cockpit air pocket, I have never owned a motorcycle with more protection.

As you know BS from my many ride reports, I am always riding down en Mexico on mi Motos. So, the very first farkle I will add is a beer bottle opener; all of my other Motocicletas have this farkle. All of the beer brewed en Mexico, except Tecate cans, require an opener; no twist offs en Mexico. Only farkle this K16GT will ever need.

Don,

Nice to know!

Put this on your keychain and you will never be without again:

Nite Ize SBO-03-01 S-Biner Ahhh Carabiner Clip Bottle Opener

Muchas Gracias mi Amigo Blind Squirrel, that is a little beauty and I will get one of those. I just remembered, I will need to buy a Givi rear rack plate adapter for my Givi E55 top box. And, I probably will also buy the BMW Tank Bag for the K1600GT. I do love having a tank bag on a touring motorcycle. Maybe a Hula Girl for the dash???

Was watching "Motorweek" on PBS and they actually had a nice test ride of the bike in Hi-Def. If you have a DVR and can find it, it's short but does a pretty good job for a car show. Of all the electronic do-dads (which I love) the one that got me really wanting the bike was showing the guy lock and unlock the hard cases with the Key Fob. Sweet idea!

If you have a BIC lighter you have a bottle opener.

I sent my Middle son to Ireland for senior trip/St Patty's day and all it got was this Guinness Stout lighter w/bottle opener.

A nice tank bag trinket. I guess he knows me pretty well

I test rode the GTL today and its the closest thing to a 2 wheeled car I have ever ridden. Super smooth and it has to be the king of the road as long as the road is straight and smooth. When the road gets bumpy you can feel every bump and if the pavement is choppy or uneven the GTL gets unstable in a hurry, add that to very little ground clearance, and you have a bike that needs to be ridden at a sedate pace on twisty back roads. It would be a handful around any slow speed corner. The quick steering is an illusion, the bike is so tall that the top half leans quickly, but it takes a while for the wheels to catch up. I thought the engine power was fine but I did not like the on/off throttle response in the first 3 gears.

I just got back from a 6,000 mile trip to 20 states and the GTL would have been the ticket to ride on about 4,500 of those miles...but that was pretty much a freeway ride and I don't do those very often. Our freeways seem to be either very smooth or very choppy and the GTL would not do well on the choppy ones. If anyone on this forum actually buys a GTL, don't try to keep up with good rider on a FJR for the same reasons an FJR rider should not try to stick with a real sport bike. I would like to ride the GT with its lighter weight, more forward ride position, and firmer suspension but don't think I would be in the market for one unless I had a co-rider.

Dear MCRIDER007, thanks for your Ride Report; I always like to have other opinions, I do wonder what "mode" your bike was set up with though! SkooterG and I found out, after our test ride: Our GTL was set up with the most aggressive suspension and least competitive performance mode.

Here is a picture below of mi Sobrino (my Nephew!) Enrique Garza and his La Esposa (Wife) Dawn on their test ride of the GTL. Enrique - Henry was the first one in our AZ Beemers BMW Club to order up a K1600GT, I also am going to order up the K1600GT. Deutschland Uber Alles, Schatzie!

OK, now I got it; and my K1600GT should be getting here soon, hopefully..
