I am sure it is hard. I put my mom through the same thing years ago. But she saw a boy leave and a man return.

If I could do it again I would. He will make you proud.

Y'know, Barry....it never gets easy!

We raise them, we try to plant good seed in them that will grow a quality, functioning adult but even that is a crapshoot.

He'll make some decisions that will have you scratching your head in wonder.

He'll make mistakes that will cause you to think, "What in the heck kind of example did I set?"

All you can do now is watch and love them. Once they ask your opinion or advice.....

Trust me, my friend, wait it out and give him a chance to spread his wings and soar. He's going to make you proud!

I know because I've read your passion and concern in this thread. That is what you have imprinted in him that will work its way to the surface in his life. Because of your input he will find he can hold his own with his peers, he can measure himself and make mature choices that will give him an entirely new perspective on who he is in this world.

One further thought: The depth of the hole in your soul is a measure of the love and care you have for your child.

You've done well!

Hey buddy...I'm sorry it took me so long to post up. It has been ***-busy around here and my time for anything other than work is limited.

I got a phone call the other day about you and was concerned that you were hurtin' pretty bad. This was after your emails, so I figured you were struggling. I'm not old enough to have kids old enough to leave the house, but it wasn't really that long ago that Patch and I bailed on our parents.

Our mom did what mom's always do, and our dad was definately our dad. He seemed to have a hard time letting go but gradually grew into it. Everytime I meet someone new that knows my dad, they act like they know everythign about Patch and me because he won't shut up about his boys (and his daughter). He is very proud and has always tried to point us in the right direction. Kind of like.....You.

Stay with it. Your son will be fine, and finish growing up into a good young man.

He'll be graduating from Basic in just a few short weeks, and you'll cry again. Sorry dude...That's the way it is. It's a sign that your a good dad and not just a sperm donor. God knows we have enough of those running around.

HRZ.

It is tough to watch 'em grow up and move on.

It did help me have more compassion for what I had put my own parents through.
