As promised...photos of the group. It was a great day with great new friends...
Met up at the Wendy's in Bedford, IN. I had already traveled 300 miles by the time of the meetup. Here we are about to head out on IN 450 south and west from Bedford.
They made the mistake of letting me lead. I am a middling FJR rider and most of the riders behind me were more skilled than I was. But they seemed not to mind too much. I told them to head off down the road if they got bored. later in the day, some of them did.
racer/Bob, Griff/Carl and airboss/Karl
Scooper/Hal and Mrs. Scooper/Shelly
StageLeftBlues/Brian - arrived on a V-strom...good thing he has those dirt bike handling skills.
FJRDon and the Missus...Don/Dawn
The Indiana roads were even better than I remembered. I had a great time...except for the 20 Trikes that were going down a main 2-lane highway at 5mph under the posted....for 15 miles. :glare: If I was by myself, I would have had no problem passing or filtering through...but as I had not met these folks yet, I decided not to get them any tickets...I had visions of Colorado and a similar situation where someone called us in and we had a conversation with Trooper Fenwick.
Anyways, all of them at the next break for water as it was HOT, let me know kindly
, that
please pass next time! :clapping:
Will do. :yahoo:
At the water stop...
Dawn, Shelly, Hal, griff, and Don
Griff, Don, and Karl...posing
Well, after that break, we got to a point where Scooper had to lead on a great paved county road to bypass Tell City and get right to the good stuff on IN 66. It was fun in the back to watch the FJRs twist and turn in front of you. :yahoo:
We parted ways with racer, the Scoopers, and StageLeftBlues where IN 62 headed east, as they headed off to home while we took the scenic twisty route to the motel in Corydon. Wow...I just love 66 and 62, great fun!
We got to the motel early enough in the day to have a little break before dinner. Cooled off with a shower while airboss slaved away on a beer run to WalMart...he returned with some LeinenKugels. We got them cold with some ice, and had a bottle and chatted away the rest of the late afternoon early evening.
KYCHERRY and his wife (Mike and Cheryl) called and said they would meet us for a later dinner, so they arrived and we rode over to the restaurant for some vittles, good conversation and air conditioning. I forgot to get a photo, but it was very nice to meet another FJR riding couple. They had some questions on some stuff, and we tried the best that we could to mislead them. Mike, I think you better post up your questions on the Forum if you want some real answers!
After we got back to the motel, the rest of the iced beer was consumed while BSing in the nice Comfort Inn lobby or out under the Entry Canopy. We even met another FJR rider and his wife who pulled up to the motel. He had an 07 and 2 of his work buddies have 07s as well. I asked him if he was on the Forum...he said he didn't do "that Forum stuff". Sounded kind of "icky" the way he said it. I didn't know we were such a naughty bunch.
Got up the next morning, and the FJRDon/Dawn crew was ready to tackle some more twisty roads before booking back to the Cincy area.
Eric/E.T. from across the river in Kentucky showed up for some Sunday morning fun...he is a hoot!
Who me??
Karl/airboss...he was doing a solo ride west along the river so he could get back to Pekin and his grandson's B-Day party.
The group: griff, E.T., FJRDons, and I headed back west on IN 62...wow what a beautiful morning in the twisties...
and along the Ohio river at Leavenworth at an overlook...
FJRDawn with the bikes
2 Liquid Silver bikes...an '03 and a '10...I'm not sure if you can tell in the photo, but the '10 has some bronze or gold tint in the silver...
E.T., griff, FJRDon/Dawn
same group, but with dufus instead of Dawn
No more pictures of the day, but we had fun up on 37 going north, said goodbyes to the Don/Dawns in Bedford. Eric wanted to take another lap with griff and I, so we did IN 58 east to IN135 north to Nashville. That was fun.
Light traffic and good pavement. Between Nashville and Bloomington is a nice curvy road, but early Sunday afternoon, you would have to pass 50 cars in that short distance to have any fun, and I didn't feel like spending the night in jail...so I just hung back, grinned, and took it like a man. Boy that hurt.
I was a little frisky on IN446 south, so the loop back to Bedford ended well for me. Eric, Carl and I ate lunch at the Wendy's, then went our separate ways. Boy this southern Indiana ride is a hoot. Too bad it takes 300 miles of corn to get there.
Actually 54 and 43 after Bedford were pretty nice as well...so that was the cherry on top of the dessert. After that, it was just hydrate and stop to cool down when needed. High humidity and high temps got me sapped of energy when I got home at 7pm CDT.
But it was a fun tired.
Gotta do this again! :clapping:
