Smitty

I'm in rain or shine!!! I just rode in the rain all day last Friday, so maybe I'll just leave the dirt and grime on the bike if it's going to get wet again! :(

I just talked to Smitty and plan to be at his house Thursday afternoon sometime, depending on when my new Avons arrive on the truck. I have to wait for them because my Metz' are shot after the last trip.

I've got the Friday route loaded into the MapSource s/w, so if anyone wants it just PM me and I'll email the file to you. Haven't done Saturday's yet, but I'll try to ge to it tonite or tomorrow.

Look forward to seeing all of you!! :yahoo: :yahoo:

Free tire changing this weekend only! So if you need new shoes have them drop shipped here and I will get them on for you.
I can't make the ride, but I do need new tires before I go on the same ride in two weeks. Do you have a shop? What do you charge to put on new skins? Can I get some help setting up my suspension?

I'm in Jefferson City (not Jefferson County) and I can make it over on the 14th if you have time.

FJR1300, I do mount and balance tires. I don't sell them... I would be happy to mount and balance a set for you. I bought a tire changer and balancer and change tires for myself, buddys, and most any sport/sport touring type bike. I stay away from the Harleys/cruiser type bikes...

If you order a fresh set , have them shipped here, ride over... I will mount them up...Then we can go for a ride and scrubb them in. I will send you a PM... Smitty

The forecast for Friday and Saturday just got worse. I'm back to real iffy. Again, I'm checking the progs tonight and then decide. Sorry guys, I may end up dumping my room (unless someone wants to take it over) and taking my chances if things get better than forecast. Right now the forecast for the area is 50% or stronger chance of thunderstorms coming down Friday and 40 - 50% across the northern part of AR Saturday. By evening on Saturday, things are supposed to get better, and chances for storms drops to 10 -20%. But we're talking chance for STORMS, not showers.

Hate to be a wet blanket, but it's not looking like the weather is expected to blow out of there as quickly as they thought. No surprise there. Riding between Tstorms ain't my bag.

Still hoping it's not a wash out for me. Then again, maybe I'll just don the wet gear and come anyway.

The St Louis forecast looks better. Maybe we should consider Smitty's suggestion about changing the route and ride in So. Central Missouri instead. Perhaps we can decide while we're at his place on Thursday?

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. North wind between 5 and 8 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48.

Friday: Partly cloudy, with a high around 66.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 45.

Saturday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 65.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low near 44.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 69.

Yeah, Wheaton is coming down come hell or HIGH WATER, so I think you guys should stick to the plan. I think the weekend part should still work. AOPA progs still look good for most of Saturday. Looks like the best riding is going to be north and west for Saturday. I think Friday may be in and out of showers.

Heck, it's at the point where the 'cast is all over the place. Reads scattered and intermittant some places, Tstorms at 60% some places. OF course that means who the hell knows what will happen. Just wait and see.

I'm iffy, but I like AOPA's version best. Still planning on coming. Tonight and tomorrow early AM will tell.

Sheesh... call me the VASILATOR!!!!

Hey,

I'm gonna show up at Smitty's come hell or high water. However, I will not determine for smitty what he wants to do. Smitty is THE MAN. What he says, I will live with. I'm sure I will be getting wet this weekend either way so I am just gonna expect it.

Come on MO/AR!!

Okay guys.... Heres the deal... I would like everyones input. Everyone take a look at the weather, on Friday the planned route was from Bonne Terre, Mo 63628 west and to the south to Allison/Mt. View, Arkansas. Sat. route was from Allison, Arkansas to the west to around Jasper Arkansas. Click around, and see what you think. I would like to stick with the planned ride, but no one wants to ride in the rain if we don't have to. I PM'ed everyone my phone # .Tonight would everyone please give me a call, and tell me your thoughts. Petey is the farthest, from Bonne Terre, and I would really like him to make it.

We have until 3pm ct. on Wed. to ditch the rooms at the Anglers.. I will do whatever you guys want to do. I can put a great ride together from here, but Arkansas is heaven.. Post up, and give me a call please... Smitty

Stick to the plan, Stan!!! Sounds like you got the right idea. The north and west suggestion was for Sat, and I was looking at the Jasper and Harrison areas. COOL!!!

Friday, who the heck knows. Probably soggy off and on no matter what. Might as well just get the heck down to Anglers and go FISHING!! They should be biting in the rain, right?

But I'll be calling you at home Thursday night to get the skinny for Friday AM.

Going to go home and try out my rain gear. Been in the bag for two years, never cracked the seal. Think I'm gonna need to, though. And it will be good practice for WFO. Probably get wet on that trip sooner or later, too.

Glub glub glub..... :Snorkle: :Snorkle: :Snorkle:

I think smitty should close the deal with an incentive to make the ride.... like buying dinner for everybody one night. I could be bought for that price.

Seriously, I am still up for the ride. I don't mind staying in Bonne Terre Thursday night and deciding Friday unless I am making the decision in the rain.

Skip

Yea, like smitty said, you guys have to make the call about the Angler, on Wednesday. Well, I think we'll get wet on Friday (maybe)... on Saturday the forecast for Mt.View is sunny with some clouds. You guys do what you feel comfortable with I just have to know if your heading south to Mt. View, if you are I'LL BE THERE. If you decide to ride up in MO, have a good ride and I'll watch for the next opportunity to meet and ride with you guys.

Thanks

petey :)

Hey skippy/zzzzzipppy,

I know you HAD to be jesting regarding incentives... :D

Incentives...hmmmm lets see...

1) changing/installing tires

2) general overall wrenching

3) route planning and route leading(showing us his secret routes :yahoo: )

4) organizing beforehand with the iffy weather...

5) etc

I'd say Smitty's been more than generous with everything...taking time to show people he hasn't even met his neck of the woods.

THANKS SMITTY. :yahoo: :yahoo:

Here's the deal guys... I don't mind riding and getting wet occasionally, but riding in constant rain/thunderstorms takes the "Sport" out of "Sport Touring".

That said, I know Smitty has taken a good deal of time to plan a good ride in Ark and I'd love to try out those roads. I only reserved a room for Friday night, because I was going to have to blow back home after the Sat. ride anyway.

Personally, I don't mind losing my $50 deposit, so I'll probably keep my room no matter what, and plan on riding Ark unless someone comes up with a better idea by tomorrow. So, I'm going with the flow and will do whatever you guys want to do.

I waaaas juuuuusst kiiiiiidddiiiiing!!!!

I would have come without the incentives. I'll admit I wish I wasn't in the middle of a set of tires so I could take him up on his offer. They want $120 to change a set up here, and that's if you buy them at the dealer. I'D EVEN BUY the dinner for that.

Hope this works out-- I really want to ride with some new folks in new places.

I'm hoping the weather gets better for you guys... but with that said, there's some great riding towards my place. If you're looking for some roads in Missouri, head west and pickup 100 outside of Hermann. Continue west to C just outside of Frankenstein and then take A to just outside Bonnots Mills to 50 and then head into Jefferson City. You can then pickup 94 and head back home on the north side of the river.

There's also 179 from Jefferson City that goes up to Boonville. It's another great rode that twists and turns along the Missouri river.

If you guys don't go south, let me know. I'll be riding to Fulton, MO for the Experimental Aircraft Association Fly-In on Saturday morning and then our group is heading out for a day of great Central Missouri riding.

Again... I hope the weather is good for you but both Smitty and Steve have my number... so call if you're in the area.

ALSO: A group of us Central Missouri riders are going to do a similar Arkansas ride the weekend of the 21st. We'll be leaving Columbia on Friday morning... so if you miss this weekend, let me know and we can fill you in on the next ride.

I ride out that way alot. Go to Bonnots Mill and eat at Krautman Corner. There are some great roads that way. I do need to ride your way more than I do. If something changes I will give you a call. Smitty
