We had rooty tooty color in '07 and people bitched about it. Meanwhile in a parking lot full of FJRs the various shades of silver, black, silver, black, gray, silver, gray and silver get overlooked by lay folks. They look at the purpley Bass Bote Blue '05's and the Rooty Tootie Black Cherry '07s and Oooh and Ahh.

I like the red, but not enough to terminate my love affair prematurely with the B4 bomber.

The K1300GT would not run away from a FJR without a lot of shifting of the six speed transmission. Passing cars like I would on the FJR in fifth gear took downshifting to fourth gear to be near what the FJR would do, to be better took third gear. My pillion noticed and commented on the handling and (lack of) power of the GT also. Flogging the BMW would yield equal or perhaps better performance than the FJR but required a special effort. Not only was pillion unimpressed by the performance/handling but was very disappointed in the ergonomics and cargo capacity.

A friend of mine had a new BMW that failed to start on a ride one day. After returning to his house and reading the Owners Manual I realized that his bike had a failed antenna ring on his key switch. Using his plastic pass key it let his BMW start and run. Shortly afterwards BMW had a recall for defective antenna rings.

BMWs have lots of gee-whiz goodies, but they are over-designed, under-engineered, and under-supported, and I wouldn't have one on a bet. Headlights that see around corners are great until they get stuck peering to the right. I sold my bikes when we moved back to Southern California from Florida, and shortly after settling in I went looking for a new bike. New life, new bike, I researched and rode every sport bike, tourer, and sport-tourer available. Money wasn't an issue, and my only criterion was that there had to be a dealer within 50 miles. Every bike has its good points: most are better than the FJR at something. Some are faster in the 1/4 mile, some have a plusher ride on the slab, some run the twisties a little faster. But nothing at any price comes close to the FJR as a total package for a wide variety of riding. Factor in decent gas-mileage, dead-bang reliability, a good dealer network, a responsible manufacturer that just keeps making them better and better, and a bike that has that special, magic something that speaks to your heart when you get within three feet, and there's just nothing any better out there. And anyone who says different either hasn't ridden one or is a just-plain fool.

Saw a new FJR a few years ago in the Yamaha display at the Cleveland IX center. Thanks to the mercury vapor lights at the IX center it was ugly as hell. In that light it looked sort of like brown but have no idea what the color actually was.

I like my Chevy just fine, does what u say. It's not a Cadillac nor do I pretend it is one. But for the cost difference the Chevy does perfectly well, hmmm... Just like the FJR!
I think we buried this.

So I agree on seeing the Rootbeer in person. Can't say I'm drooling at just the pics but like said, in person it may wow me/us? So what Kanuckie or border cross purchaser is going to bring one of these to a meet this upcoming season? I know Fred is happy with his bass blue....plus he won't part with his wad as he thinks his mattress will sag a bit :) so who's stepping up A&W sty-lee?

Goddammit...I "reached [my] quota of positive votes for the day." So I'll just say +1.

Oh...AND Chevys suck. Not like a "hot babe porn" kind of way, more like "man on man in a prison shower" kind of way.

 
It is winter here. The heating season is well upon us.
We've already had some snow and ice, so the salt and sanders have already been out.

Yesterday was an anomaly, as will today be, temps soaring to mid 40's with no precip. Of course I had to take at least a short ride yesterday afternoon, even on the sandy roads. The back roads here are always more trecherous than the main thoroughfares, but I still prefer them anyway.

I'll bet it would have been just as good on a 2014 FJR1300.

Nope. It's still fall. Winter officially starts in about 16 days, 16 hours, and 37 minutes... on Dec 21. I know because I have it on a countdown timer... Summer is 198 days, 16 hours, and 37 minutes on June 21.

The true significance of the 21st is that is the shortest day of the year, so while it may be just the start of winter (for those who do pay attention to the calendar) it is also the start of the days getting longer. We'll already be on the other side of the hump.

You'll have to start a seperate thread about your new Jeep diesel. I'd like to hear some of your impressions about the new engine.

Heading to the Motorcycle show this weekend. And while I'm pretty sure I'll get to see the Redhead in person, I'm not holding my breath for a test ride.

Last year we arrived at about 1000 and the FJR & Tenere were both booked for the entire day.
