Some of you have done this on an ad hoc basis, I see, but this seems like an IDEAL thing to build a tech day around. A couple or three hole saws, a bulk pack of dremel blades (and a couple-three dremels), one or two already-done Trooper-Modded bikes to "sell" the doubters with, all that expertise assembled--anybody around here interested in being involved in something like that? I see Roger is our (maybe only) local Trooper pioneer. There'd be big demand for your presence, Rog. Add to this thread if you'd be interested, NorCal.

The other question that came up for me is: with California being the only oddball state with its own requirements to even sell a freaking motorcycle (although we don't have annual motorcycle inspections--yet--thank god), how would this mod impact our tight-assed local requirements for exhaust, etc? As I recall, even the sale of a m/c here doesn't require any kind of state inspection, right?

"I'm about 3/4 way through this and it has been quite the pain in the ***. . . everything was red hot and my drill was smoking a little. . ."
You always put oil on your drill bits and saw blades when cutting metal, right? And keep them well oiled? High school metal shop.

Anyway, I'm pretty jazzed about doing this now, after reading through the thread for the first time. Good contribution to the forum, Trooper.

Nope, sure didn't. Guess I should have taken high school metal shop :glare:
Remember bigtallguy, when SacramentoMike went to high school metal shop, electric drill motors had not been invented yet. Note: I was in the class just ahead of Mike!

Put me down as another satisfied customer. Did the mods last weekend but did not have a chance to go riding until yesterday. Love it. Just never liked the fact I really couldn't hear the Feej and wasn't crazy about spending 500+ on exhaust just for sound.

So.................... Any New Englanders????

Bueller????? Anyone???
I did it and like it. Actually bought a slightly dented set of mufflers so I wouldn't have to risk mine. Originally thought I'd Trooper Mod them, make a decision on my 'good' set, and send the dented ones around for guys to listen to to help them decide (like the CalSci windscreen), but now I don't want to part with them!

I would go to the NERD Tech Day if we get it set up. Guys could listen to them there?

I plan on doing the mod on my extra set of exhaust when I get back from vacation. I don't want to embarrass the Hardley's to much you know while I am away. It can't get there soon enough. A few more weeks and I will be riding the twisties.

You're just down the road from me, Dave. I'd love to stop by and hear 'em once you've done the deed/

New owner here. Anyone done this mod yet? Would really like a nice note.

Sorry. Disregard. Oops.
******* awesome...There is now another Zilla for you guys to blame **** on!

Welcome aboard man...If you want, I still have the stuff for the mod. Pick up some cut-off wheels for a dremel at the Home Depot down the road from me and bring it here. We'll drink beer and break your bike...Oh, I mean, we will do the mod on your bike.

I'm in Albuquerque, so not that far away. Send me a PM if you want help and I'll send you my cell and address.

I went over to see (hear) Roger's (of RogDeb) T-Modded '04 yesterday and liked the sound as much as the rest of you converts. He let me borrow his (almost used-up) hole saw blade, but it was enough to get through the left pipe yesterday. Finished today and I'm pretty tickled with the whole deal.

We need to form a 'Loudsider's' club - with stickers and membership numbers and everything! And to hell with cookies! We'll have beer! Lots of beer!
And I agree with Scooter. Loudsiders' club. Cool. And our slogan could be, um, how about: "Loud Pipes Save Lives!" . .

If there are any of you around central Tx I would be happy to let you hear or help do the mod. Let me know, I'm in Johnson City, close to Austin.

I bought the tools yesterday. One enhancement I'm going to add is to remove the paint from the hole saw before I start so it doesn't rub off inside the pipe and require later removal. I figure putting it in the drill press and hitting it with sandpaper or a file should make quick work of it.

OR... you could let the muffler remove the paint for you.

I haven't heard a single peep from anybody on this thread saying, "D@mn, if only I got paint off the holesaw first! Now I have these unsightly paint marks on the inside of my can!"

:D

What make you think that you will be the first? ;)

All the metal shavings will need to be removed somehow/someway anyway, so any extraneous paint chips, if any, could get sucked out at the same time. :clapping:

Of course, this is a free country, so what better way to celebrate that freedom than by using the drill press...

Have at it! God Bless America!

Most of the paint lost itself from my hole saw .. dunno where ;) . I think the vacuum job I gave it was the collector. Definitely none on the muffler.

K. I thought the OP said the paint rubbed off on the inside of the pipe.
