You put a Canadian license plate in there too! Very thorough!

When you add a taller rear tire, you are changing the geometry of the bike. Now the rear is up higher than the front. Turn in will be easier, but now your suspension needs adjusted to level the bike again.
Correct but the minor elevation in the rear is negated by my big *** and 6'-4" framola!

Just for Fred...

My real meat just after the mount and it looks quite normal to me? (I know... since when has KJ done anything feckin normal?)

Crap. Wrong bike pic stolen then?

Doh! That was a 2013 and I thought it was your AE. <forehead slap>

Back to raid KJ's photobucket for more "evidence"... none to be found.

I'm thinking this change might be a good thing for us Gen I owners who have the lower 5th gear and run more rpms at highway speeds.

Even if it lowers rpms 100-200 at speed that to me would be a noticeable reduction in engine "busy-ness" and feel at speed.

But then again, since I am "inseam challenged", would it make it harder for me to reach the ground with my shorty legs?

But the real question is, if I go to a taller tire, would that make my bike slow like the Gen II and Gen III bikes?

And would I really want that?

It's a small and barely noticeable difference.

OK, sounds like your convinced, but maybe not....

Very little difference in additional height. Your changing of boots (heels) may be more noticeable.

Don't do it, you would definitely be slower than the newer FJR's. Keep your "old antique" as it is, we wouldn't want you to be "slow".

I like everything about the 190/55..[except the higher tire cost]

but what has me scratching my nutzz-

why is the average mpg and calculated mpg down?? not much-meebee 1 or 2

larger circumference=lower revs/mile=better mileage theorectically

mayhaps because fewer miles are running up on the odo. hence fewer miles to divide gallons into ?

over a known mileage loop the odo reads less--@ 4 miles/ hundred fewer with the 190/55

Yes. It's the latter.the actual miles per gallon may be increased but both the odometer and the mpg meter in your dash are underestimating how far you are really going.

+1

...and also I now have a more accurate mph reading on my speedometer (ck'd vs GPS).

Yamaha has always been famous for the Dream-o-meter especially in their jet-skiis. Their thinking (coming from a Vegas Yamaha dealer convention back in '06). "Keep custama's vatty happie, makes em feel wealy good dat day go wealy fass" ...yeah OK :(

The biggest quote of the ballroom that night however came from Yamaha's CEO at the podium... "Yamaha had mos profita-bull year evah!" ...as dealers were coughing and choking. My best friend; Jerry Jeffries (Yami dealer/owner in Constantia NY) and his fellow US dealers had loaded showrooms (via Mama-Y's push n threats) and most importantly the floorplanning owed by these dealer/owners to the likes of GE-Cap and others. A statement that truly went over like a popcorn fart in church. The Japaneses hi-Archy truly believe the American public/consumers are pushovers. Don't believe it? then they have done their job well ;)

I've heard so many anti-Yamaha stories from within, it's a wonder why I ride one ;) OK, So I like the Feej!

This thread had caught my interest, but last tire change I resisted the temptation. 3K miles later thanks to a small nail @ a 45 degree angle, I again have the opportunity to "fatside". The tire is on order, please send registration info so I can get a fatsider number

Just in case this is not enough to cause my bike to spontaneously combust, I have also ordered ride-on balance and sealer.

You have to be at least #3. Fairlaner and I were both fatsided before you.

Sorry. Use of ride-on sealant requires relinquishing of your man card and disqualifies all fat-side benefits.

It's in the fine print. I didn't make these rules, I'm only passing them along.

I will have to temporary relinquish any claims to membership.

On the day my Ride On was to arrive I found a slow leak in my front tire as well. I did what any red blooded (necked) 'merican would have. I cancelled the rear tire order.

I also had an alternate use for that money, my birthday was coming up and I had yet to order my gift. By the middle of next week I'll be the proud owner of a Garmin Zumo 665 with Touratech locking mount. At least if I have 2 flats in the middle of nowhere I can tell the towing company precisely where I'm located!

Chuck ,If I understand this right, You now have a brand new GPS to play with on a bike with two flat tires? Different strokes..... have fun!! and watch out for traffic in your yard!

Sounds to me like a delicious recipe from my favorite cookbook: "How to Cook the Books".

Around here, available funds (after living expenses) mostly get funneled into the "Next Trip To Europe" fund. Leaves little $$ for motorcycle related "toys". Garmin is on the list of toys.

If I save my monthly "toy allowance" and buy a Garmin, and then need a new tire? Well, that's a living expense, like tires for the van!

Creative finance - more fun than Vegas!

Well, not exactly. The GPS is paid for and in transit. The tires are no longer leaking courtesy of "Ride On". I may replace them before their tread is worn off (10k est) but it will be after I have recovered from the GPS purchase.

I think it's been going on for quite a while...this guy was on his third in 2011

Ayupp-I phattsided my FJ1200 in the '90's..She was always breaking the 150/70-16 bias tire loose..The big tire [on a FZR wheel] fixed that altho it hurt the wicked lunge that the FJ had- a smaller front sprocket took care of that..[Wish the FJR had the same lunge, but then it would be turning 3900 at 60].

Ya gotta have it documented as such, you can't get credited for mistakes turn happy face. And as Fred said, many of rules were broken here with these "non-documented" as such dealings
