Met griff and 1911 at STAX for breakfast before heading out into the cool mountains. Roads were generally clear of vehicles...a beautiful and adrenaline filled 270 mile day.

Riding alone is fine, but can be more funnerer with buddies. It was way fun.

I have to make up time for five decades in the flatlands.

Good to hear, Mark.

Mentioned elsewhere of my intent to visit all of NC's state parks. This weekend 6 more were added to this list. For us here in the south- high temp in the mtns 81*F. It was 57*F and clear Sunday morning. So, here we go....

First stop, Hanging Rock State Park

Over night in Boone, NC then up the BRP and across US 58 to Martinsville, VA where my riding bud, "Ken the HD Guy" goes north to Lynchburg and I go south. Next planned trip is a day ride with lunch to Mt Mitchell SP Sunday, Aug 9. Come join us!

^^^^^

I was going to say "post fail," but that helmet...

Finishing up a couple hundred on the FJR with SWMBO, lunch at the Little Switzerland Cafe. Good eats at an altitude above the worst of the heat.

Over the past week, installed a Pelican box (thanks, Petey!) and an FYYFF sticker (thanks, El Toro Joe!).

I have good word that the sticker refers to "Forever Yamaha, Yamaha Forever Foundation", a charitable organization made up of riders who are dedicated to Momma Yama's products. Is there an FYB sticker for the Forever Yamaha Brotherhood?

The nylon bag on the pillion is a small insulated "cooler" that's held in place by two homemade adjustable straps.

Yes, I understand the weight limitations on the Pelican case without Garauld's stiffy kit. I'll just have to pack carefully for a while, since Santa is already debating custom seat vs. Aerostich.

After 3 wks of solid rain, I finally got to get out for a little while. Now I know why I've been so grumpy, and don't know how my northern brothers/sisters do it all winter.

Also, I got to hear the new exhaust at varying speeds. The only times I could hear it was; engine braking, hard throttle, and at low speeds. Works for me.

The FYB stickers were a very limited run, made for the SEO Ramble of 2014.

Festar and I checked and adjusted the steering head bearings on the "Grey Ghost ", pretty easy job once we got started.

Replaced slightly bent clutch lever and lubed Lever pivot points as well as the side stand.

Had the Grey Ghost name painted on her flank by an old friend that pinstripes all around the country.

FYYFF, I always wondered what that stood for. I had other thoughts, now I am ashamed.

Had to pull my rear wheel off on the side of the freeway since I got a large nasty hole in my new tire that plugs would not seal. I'm glad our FJRs have an easy to remove rear axle with shaft drive!

Good on you for having the tools to do that. Did you have to go and pick them up, or did you carry them?

I had to go home to get the large socket and torque wrench. I also grabbed a spare tire just in case abd good thing I did!

1) 2009 BMW F650GS Twin: Gone, but not forgotten! My dirt bike riding days are done!

2) 2013 Yamaha FJR 1300: Expensive and too heavy to ride with my crippled right arm!

3) 2012 BMW K1600GT: Too expensive and too heavy to ride with my crippled right arm!

4) 2006 Yamaha FZ6: Belongs to MEM, so I can't risk riding it with my crippled right arm!

5) 1994 BMW R1100RS: Inexpensive enough and light enough I can ride with my crippled right arm!

On Labor Day I'm going to take mein "Ludwig" out for a 50 miler and see if I can ride without crashing!
