Where to get 20w-40 oil?

The descrption says it all. I want NO input on when, how, why, or where to change my oil. I can't find 20w-40 outside of the moto shop and that's expensive crap for the Yama lube. Funny, they phuk ya on the price... think they use their lube to make it easier?

Side question is if I can't find this stuff, is 20w-50 fine?

And yes, I searched for 20w-40 and found nothing. So sorry if this is a repost.

 
Without having more information its kinda hard to answer your question. Are you talking about motorcycle specific oil or are you talking about automotive oil? Are you talking about buying the stuff locally or online? If locally, where are you located? If online, keep in mind oil is heavy and shipping will increase the cost per quart a bit.

As for your side question, that kinda leads back into what you specifically said you did not want to turn this into.

 
Personally, I'd think 20w50 *would* be acceptable... thus one of the Mobil 1's will be my next oil purchase. (Hope that helps, Jayshaw91.) I think a 15w50 would be ok, as would 10w40... each choice covers the Yamaha-indicated range... just check it's SE, SF or SG or higher grade.... per p. 8-1 of the '06 owner manual.

(Related side note:My dealer did not have the rear end lube; said he'd order it, would call... no call yet. Probably doesn't want to fork out $250 for a case that will last hime till FJR's are obsolete.)

 
Since you don't show your location.....try any auto parts store....if they don't have it..... they should be able to order it....including motorcycle specific oil in whatever weight your looking for....

 
The only sources I have found for 20W40 is Yamaha ($$$$); Spectro Golden ($$$$) and Gulf ($$$$). You would almost think that Yamaha selected an oil specification that would force you buy Yamaha :glare: Are you ready to walk on the wild side and try 20W50 or 10W40?

Everybody that has destroyed an engine solely by running something other than 20W40 please chime in...

$2.78 a quart is expensive comared to a $14,000+ machine? ....or about $20 for an oil change. Throw in a filter and crush washers and one might get to the $30 mark. Hmmm. :huh:

 
I can't believe someone would buy an FJR, the best motorcycle made, then sit around and worry about the price of oil for it...what does it hold anyway, 5 or 6 measly quarts?

BWHWHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAH If your that financially distraught , take your food stamps down and trade em to one of the mechanics for some Yama oil....

 
I just sold a Suzuki GS1000G that I had for 25 years and it always got either 10-40 or 15-40 motor oil.

Oil and filters were changed every 2500-3000 miles

When I sold it last week it still not burn oil noticably.

I do not feed into Yamaha's lubricant hype.

Beside's Yamaha is not in the oil business so they are buying it from Sun oil or someone else and putting their name on it and charging us 300% mark up.

Give your baby good quality oil and change it often and she will last a lifetime.

If you do not believe that marketing is huge in business today check out a Harley shop sometime.

FWIW, I feel for you, bro. No 20-40 juice for me 'round these parts either. I run 20-50 - cheapest **** I can find, too. 30k, no bad juju.

By the way, my horn is sounding funny. How do I check the horn oil level and what's the best choice of horn oil?

I wouldn't even bother with that if you haven't changed the air in your tires first. Troubleshoot from the ground up... :blink: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I figured 20-50 would be fine or even 15-40.

About that horn oil level... ah, forget it. I won't go there :)

I'll try to make this so clear even you guys who are tighter than ****'s hatband might understand.....The dealers have two prices for their clients. One price is for those who have all thier service work done there which includes lower labor cost not to mention some freebies thrown in (checking plugs, cables, etc). The other price is for those customer who work on their own bikes to cheat the dealer out of making a few extra bucks. For these fine fellows, the dealer goes strictly by the service manuel which if for example says it should takes 2 hours to replace the tiresl, and it only tooks em 30 minutes, you get charged whole 2 hours..which means you're paying for that expensive oil whether you buy it or not...

It's not only the Harley way, it's the American way....

 
Make your own. 8 ounces of STP oil treatment to 1 gallon of Shell Rotella 5W-40W is the most popular recipe I heard. :D

Twn, you just gotta know that Rad is working on that horn oil answer for ya, right ?

Well **** them very much too... ! :****: The next time a dealer tells me I'm cheating him of anything by doing my own maintenance, he can go to hell via the most direct route possible. :******: Other than a select few, I am less than impressed with most dealerships service, whether I get a 3 finger discount or not.
