Yamaha Diagnostic Tool (kit) - GenIII

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.
Also note that unlike most Yamaha Special Tools which are available through KLR, this must be ordered direct through Yamaha.

But doing a little Googling on the respective part numbers, Bike Bandit shows they have one of the USB units in Stock and available, which I don't believe.

Agile Tech Co responded quite quickly.

Of course they recommend the $730 device

https://obd2tools.com/productinfo.asp?id=686, not the $245 device

https://obd2tools.com/productinfo.asp?id=764 which also says it supports the Yamaha connector.

On another website I found a list of bikes which the iq4bikes tool will work with, FJR is listed as "2001-"

https://www.sinodownloads.com/down/download/PDF/3530218-Manual_iQ4bike_Vehicle_List.pdf

Read into that what you wish.

The vendor has a 7 day return policy.

Perhaps there is someone with a 2016 bike who is willing to risk some capital on either of these tools?

Sept 8 update;

Upon further questioning, Agile responded thus-

Hello friend,

Iq4bike can work on FJR, but we are not sure if it can work on 2016 models. We also have not tested it.

MCT 200 cant work on FJR.

I spoke with a Yamaha technician from DHY Motorsports in Deptford NJ yesterday before I test rode bikes from the Demo Days semi that was in their parking lot. He wasn't aware that the 2016 FJR (maybe others) now were OBDII compliant, nor that on the 2016 FJR the diagnostic menus that could once have been summoned no longer appear on the instrument display. FWIW he did think that Yamaha would not have an issue with a customer buying the latest diagnostic tool(s) for themselves. Polaris would, but not Yamaha.

It can't be this simple, can it?

Found a white 3-way connector with a blind cap behind the left side cover on my 2017A (Europe model RP28).

Moin Adam,

I'm not able to open ANY of your links pointing to your WebSite - but I'm interested in!

Your site does not respond (from Germany?)...

What could be the reason?

Try it now.

My firewall blocking list included a list of German ISP with suspicious activity in the past. I'd be interested to know what your public IP is. Please try Googling "what's my IP" and report it back to me.

Thx

Thanks to Adam!

Today I found this black covered 4-pin plug according to Adams Picture, directly under the driver seat bridge on the right side of the bike.

Hard to recognize for my eyes under poor light conditions, because the background is the black plastic Fender (poor contrast).

But there is only this one black cable, coming up from the left side cover and then crossing the space under the driver seat bridge and ending in this white plug (on my European 2017A).

The plug is fixated with his black cover to the black plastic Fender.

Easy to find if you know where you have to search...
