Finally installed mine yesterday 05 (over left headlight) its tight. I am happy with these and will hold off on the Aux lights for a while

Thanks bmwhd!!!
Well I didn't take one for the team. That's a GOOD thing! :yahoo: Although it was a major Charlie Fox getting the lights, installing them was pretty easy.

DHL screwed up three days in a row delivering the lights, then Shanghai Shipper didn't send me the correct lights. They are HID, they are 4300K, but they don't tilt. They retract and have the metal shield with the big cutout at the bottom. You know what, I'm not going to bother jumping through the hoops trying to get the tilters. We know these work, and in my garage I can already see a serious high beam improvement. As the sun is now setting you can bet I'll be out for a ride here shortly.

Originally, I had the shutter HIDs. I shutter to think what I've been missing! Well now I'm missing about 1/2 the pile of spagetti. No separate switchers, no separate igniters, no fancy extra wiring to trick the system into thinking a high beam lights and the low beam goes off.

The wiring harness on this new set from China is really easy. And since there's a whole lot less to install, it did go faster.

The solenoid on the back of my new HIDs is quite large. I was ready to cut the rubber boot because you HAVE to have those on there. Instead, I just inverted the middle part (appears threaded) and it seals up against the back of the solenoid quite nicely.

Time for a ride! :yahoo:
:yahoo: :yahoo: Great news!

Oh yes, I came home Saturday night at about 12:30 and I swear I could see about 2 miles down the road. And the light cut off is VERY crisp. SCHAWEET! :yahoo: DING DING DING DING DING - We have ah WINNER!!! :yahoo:

with all these installs, you'd think there were some install pictures somewhere.

You mean like the ones that start in post 16 of this very thread?
woops, how'd they get there... hmm... I need my medication.

Ok, I'm in too.... but I have a question,

Winning bidder must provide all of the following in the paypal notes:

1) Bulb Size

2) Color Temperature

3) Daytime Telephone Number for shipping company to contact you

bulb size? H4 right? I am 'buy it now'ing HID Xenon Bixenon Conversion Kit,H4 High/Low Telescopic which says H4 in the description, that is where my confusion comes from.

H4 is correct. I wrote H4 HI/LO.

4300K is white light. 6000K starts to get blue-ish then purple. You choose. I did 4300K.

I gave the dude my info on the PayPal transaction in the comments box.

As to the install, my ballasts are in the open area over the engine. Instead of wiring the ground of each ballast to my Blue Sea, this time I got lazy and used a frame ground. My Audiovox cruise control pad and each of the two ballasts are grounded to a bolt that holds the hydraulic line manifold on the right side of the steering column on the frame. The ground wires had just the right size ring connector. That made the install pretty easy, I only had to splice into one wire, the main positive power wire that I had already run for the other set of lights. Plug and play is about right!

Yes. Just to be sure, include all that info in your paypal comments when you order.

I went with the 6k just to be different this time but 4.3k is likely what you want. There's very little difference in practice but every lumen counts and the 4.3k are just a tad brighter. The trade off for me was that the extra bit of blue in the 6k helps in the day time to keep cagers off my bow and I'm a 90/10 day/night rider these days (f&$king deer).

Let me see if I have this correct, did you place the ballasts under the tank, above the engine, where the "T" brace is between the frame? I have been giving that area alot of thought for placement as there seems to be very little room elsewhere.

Any chance of a picture?

TIA!

Couldn't take it anymore,

I put the old shutter-type in my sportage after not liking them in the FJR.

Really like the one light telescopic setup in my KLR.

Now, I had to get this new set to try in the FJR again.

Had to do it.

Looking forward to the results, and thanks to those who have blazed this trail :clapping:

You are correct.

Sorry, I didn't shoot any pics. The ballasts fit in there pretty easily. The ballast are a bit smaller than the ones with the shutter lights, but still to large to fit under the headlights at the bottom of the cowl. And the leads from the ballasts are short enough that they have to be within about a foot of the light source. Although I suppose you could splice longer wires in, but I sure won't mess with it.

Well once you have purchased these please let me know what/ how you answered those questions.

I would like to get a set too!

FJRocket,
Thanks for the reply bud, that's exactly where I going to install the ballasts thanks to you!
GO for it. It's easy. Especially running the wires through the frame on the LEFT side of the bike (for the left light). The opening in the frame is larger on the left and there seems to be less cables, wires and lines over ther. The right side is a little tricky because of the hydraulic manifold, but the plugs/wires will fit through there for the right light.

The hardest part for this whole project is getting those dam clips over the solenoid to hold the H4 in the lens. My fingers got pretty sore. Finally, I took off the A-D panels so I could see what I was doing and 5 seconds later they were in.

If you can get your ballasts to lay flat in there, you might still get decent airflow in there. Mine are sitting vertically on the ballast's side, up against the frame. That makes it easier to point the wires from the ballast out the frame holes.

This is just a nice setup. The factory should be doing it!

Another successful install here. Priced right, and I'm happy with the light pattern and brightness. This is a fairly easy thing to put in, hardest part is fitting the ballasts in. I managed to squeeze both ballasts in the nose above the headlight. Had to take the whole front end apart, but I really didn't want to expose them to the engine heat.

Thanks to the pioneers of this kit who made it easy for me. :)

Original eBay selller MCMotoring is no longer registered. Anyone know if this kit is the same or similar?
That price is incredible! The pics on his page suck, so it's hard to tell. But I would think that any "solenoid" operated telescoping H4 HID would work. You might email for better pics and description, but don't hold your breath. Ya pays yer money and takes yer chances. At least his feedback looks good.

Woops, I missed this question.

I said H4 hi/lo, 4300. i got it a week ago, and am about to install it today.

Had a weird one

On stopping I noticed that one of the lights was not on.

Turned the bike off and restarted.

The light worked?

Do HID's sometimes not fire?

Checked all the wiring no loose connections have not seen the problem in the last couple of days during my commutes.

Yes. This happens in my autos from time to time. No worries usually. Also has happened on some of my bike conversions.
