Just letting you guys know that Apartment D is no longer available.

Some jackass from Swampy Flatlandistan just reserved it.

Well, it might be 10 months out, but at least I've got something to look forward to.

RFH - thanks for taking care of this for us. Hell, I'll take the top bunk if necessary. Hopefully, we can avoid Mexican food that weekend.

Are you planning to wash my delicates like last time?

I got on the phone today and reserved a room for all three nights. My plan is to have the wife ride up with me, instead of my usual FJR riding buddy, Pete. It's been well over a year since she did a moto trip with me. Hopefully she'll be up to the task of two+ days of riding with this bunch of hooligans. If she wimps out early, I can always drop her off in Fresno or Sacramento so she can fly home. I'm really looking forward to it.

Since I am taking this leap of faith (based mostly on my desire to meet Miss Tyler) I did not do my usual research on this hotel. I blindly followed Tyler in spite of my considerable experience of being misled by women. Therefore I have some questions and perhaps I will need to make another phone call to Stormi to get my answers. Their web site is sorely lacking information.

Does anyone know if:

There is a guest laundry at the Mariposa Lodge?

There is any sort of FCB?

Is there a decent restaurant within walking distance?

Do those apartments have any sort of kitchenette?

Is there a free bike washing service?

Okay, the last one is just a vain hope. If no one else already has these answers I will make the phone call myself. It is so difficult to hold that heavy phone and it requires so much effort to use the touch screen, but I will do it if I must.

I just called the lodge to ask a few questions, and:

No guest laundry on the property. The rep said there's a laundromat "nearby". Google Maps shows it to be a 15 minute walk. Not cool.

No FCB, but there is the Sugar Pine Café about a 2 minute walk from the hotel...opens at 0700.

According to Google Maps, there are several restaurants and pubs/saloons within a 5 minute walk.

The apartments do have kitchenettes.

Maybe we can find a bored kid nearby who can wash the bikes for a $1 tip? You know, to teach him the value of earning an honest wage for hard work and all that.

www.google.com - "What does FCB stand for?"

click the first link out of 7,900,000 results (seriously - almost 8 million answers).

Abbreviations.com gives 36 possibilities. Trust me, it can't be any of those. Especially Fecal Coliform Bacteria I suppose RFH may want to make sure the motel is free of that, but ..... nah.

I give - what does FCB stand for?

There is a laundromat 0.7 miles away - PD Quick Carwash and Laundromat, 4964 Joe Howard St, Mariposa, CA 95338... you can wash your bike and your clothes at the same time... or find someone to do it for you!

Hmmmm, maybe there's a local group that would do a bike wash one day for charity or some such... came across that in Cedar City last year... kids doing a fundraiser for their school... they did a mighty fine job too!

You can also always wash in the sink/shower and hang up to dry with a clothesline like this.

Lots of places to eat nearby which is one of the reasons I chose the location. I will be working with a local vendor for a group bbq in the parking lot of the motel for Saturday evening.

I am not complaining about any of this. My heart is filled with gratitude that Tyler has done all this for "us". I personally would not wish to undertake a gathering of FJR riders from all over the country.

Ever since I joined this forum, and even while lurking, I wondered what Miss Tyler would be like in person. 10 months from now I am going to find out.

Ms Tyler is nothing much. ;)
@RfH, you will have your expectations met with a great friendly person who will become a life-long friend!

I'm a professional traveler and hadn't heard of this either.

I feel your pain.

I immediately thought FULL CASH BAR. but a few contextual clues led me to believe that was inaccurate.

I'm going to do some hiking in Yosemite. Not that I would try, but if we wanted to climb half dome, I think we have to make our reservation now. I've heard that, anyway. Regardless, I'm going to take some walks in that neck of the woods - no doubt about that.

In fact, I'm going to stay and ride more than 3 days in that area. I haven't decided whether I'm going early, staying late, or both yet. I do want to ride with RFH and his Dad, of course. As things get a little closer, we can look at other possibilities.
