Actually, the discussion is moot, as has been pointed out by Ignacio and some other forum regular. The decision will be made by those who are involved with the organizing and planning.
If anyone is interested in having or hosting a future WFO in a particular area, the best suggestion I can make is that once WFO is posted, please PM the
"El Jeffe, Grand Wizard, High Potentate, Master Muckity-Muck" and volunteer yourself in whatever position he needs. That way you will:
1) Get to meet those who are involved with this event and the FJR Forum.
2) Get a feel for how and why certain things are done.
3) Understand the time and involvement required (Months of time!).
4) Make yourself known to those who work diligently behind the scenes.
5) Have opportunity to showcase your willingness to labor for the FJR owners.
6) Hopefully, develop an reputation of trust and be recognized as a potential Host/MC, etc.
7) Get to meet hundreds of FJR Owners....the nicest people on two wheels.
Until the appropriate steps are taken by any individual, this discussion is like a child sitting on Santa's knee saying, "I want!" Trust me, most of those involved have ridden a good many of the roads in the Western states and possess intimate knowledge of the scenery and terrain. At some point one must also take into account a venue that will hold and entertain a couple hundred bikes and riders (and pillions), have banquet and feeding facilities for 200+ people, budget constraints require something less than $175 per night, some form of entertainment close by for those pillions who might decide to not ride local day-rides, a dealer close by for "emergency services",
ad nauseum, ad infinitum.
Jeez....I've already said all of this before! Since there seems to be an abundance of suggestions here, why don't a couple of you organize your own FJR meet. It needn't be called WFO, perhaps named "Ride-To-Ride, FJRs in NorCal". Contact the hotels and restaurants, post the place and date, then see who might be interested.
That's exactly what Highlander has done with the annual Yo-Yo-Yosemite weekend, Bluestreek has done with the annual Hwy 3-36-97-299-36-101-1 weekend, The annual "Gathering of the Clans" (NorCal/SoCal) gathering by Highlander in Morrow Bay was a huge success last year, and there are more. IIRC, there is a Death Valley weekend meet in the planning/announced stage right now, IIRC others have planned weekends in the PNW. Some of you should go back and read the ride reports from the last year to get a feel of what happens on simple 3-day weekend rides and gatherings. This group of motorcyclists seems to be a rather gregarious bunch who love to ride and enjoy their new friends.
Come out and meet them. Volunteer. Be a part of what is happening. Organize your own weekend event. Join the staff at WFO. THEN make suggestions........
