idaho works for me! anyone ride the million dollar highway, out of telluride, co. gets up to 11,600 feet on top of the red mountain pass. i rented a harley and rode it and can not wait to ride my new fjr on that stretch of highway. 4 corners is close as well. im a new guy, so just my 2 cents. thanks warchild for the info. cheers, jerome
Idaho to Telluride would be one heck of a day ride!
Do you suppose it's possible, maybe Jerome's grandfather and James Burleigh's grandfather were brothers, and maybe one of them changed how his name was spelled at Ellis Island, and maybe they're long-lost cousins? Hey, could be.

B) I Vote for Kalispell Montana. Easy access to the Canadian Rockies and Great Local riding. Glacier National Park etc etc.My 2 cents. Dan
I gotta say, Montana is pretty dang cool, and some amazing rides to the north, south, east and west of Kalispell. Not sure what "traffic" it is Barb was referring to. Must be comparing it to Campbell River, huh? Come visit us down our way, Barb. We got some traffic. We can teach you about lane splitting/sharing, though. That's kind of a hoot.

Its one of the least populated states in America and No Fuzz. You will be lucky to see one, not like Nafo in Colorado, there was cops with radar every where.
Minuteman, you got a funny idea about what luck is, I'm thinkin'.

what about redding, pretty central for all, lots of mtns, day trip to reno, hot but not desert hot.wtf !......and all the local girls have teeth.
Uhm....someone has never been to Redding, CA in July.
Just what I was thinkin' Mikey. When I read that one, I thought "why not just have it in HELL!!!??" (No offense to all you Redding folks, of course.) ;) Besides, teeth are overrated sometimes.

Anyway, it's fun to start thinking about all this in the "dead" of winter. (I'm looking out my window at a gorgeous sunny day, and the thermometer is pushing 60.) I made it to NAFO in a rented car, and I'll make it to this thing, wherever it is, on my last surviving motorcycle, unless something happens on the "replacement FJR" front pretty soon. I can't wait to see how my little red KLR will look in the middle of the group shots. :p Anyway, my heart's with you and your FJRs, so I can't even help myself.

A history lesson might be in order: We've done Santa Rosa twice (though it was in '03). Besides, we'd rather not force owners from other states to ride Hwy 1, Skaggs Springs, Nacimiento-Fergusson, Hwy 20 from Fort Bragg to Willits, Skyline Blvd, La Honda Rd., Hwy 29 from Calistoga to Clear Lake, Hopland Grade, etc., etc., etc.

How about the area around Shasta? Slab is available most of the way to get you to the site, which I assume is important. The Dunsmuir, McCloud area is a nice place to stay. Lots of camping is of course available. Day rides to Lassen, Burney Falls, Nevada City are possible and highway 36 is great at the edge of the Trinity Alps. Distances are reasonable too. About 600 from Seattle and 700 or so from San Diego.

Lets go for S.F. then I don't have to worry about going. Don't ever want to see a city that size again. Just my .02

Owe noe....Ray es skeered!

How about the area around Shasta?
Uhm, happy puppy, did you bother to read the discussion about Yreka-Eureka, etc.?

Actually, the discussion is moot, as has been pointed out by Ignacio and some other forum regular. The decision will be made by those who are involved with the organizing and planning.

If anyone is interested in having or hosting a future WFO in a particular area, the best suggestion I can make is that once WFO is posted, please PM the "El Jeffe, Grand Wizard, High Potentate, Master Muckity-Muck" and volunteer yourself in whatever position he needs. That way you will:

1) Get to meet those who are involved with this event and the FJR Forum.

2) Get a feel for how and why certain things are done.

3) Understand the time and involvement required (Months of time!).

4) Make yourself known to those who work diligently behind the scenes.

5) Have opportunity to showcase your willingness to labor for the FJR owners.

6) Hopefully, develop an reputation of trust and be recognized as a potential Host/MC, etc.

7) Get to meet hundreds of FJR Owners....the nicest people on two wheels.

Until the appropriate steps are taken by any individual, this discussion is like a child sitting on Santa's knee saying, "I want!" Trust me, most of those involved have ridden a good many of the roads in the Western states and possess intimate knowledge of the scenery and terrain. At some point one must also take into account a venue that will hold and entertain a couple hundred bikes and riders (and pillions), have banquet and feeding facilities for 200+ people, budget constraints require something less than $175 per night, some form of entertainment close by for those pillions who might decide to not ride local day-rides, a dealer close by for "emergency services", ad nauseum, ad infinitum.

Jeez....I've already said all of this before! Since there seems to be an abundance of suggestions here, why don't a couple of you organize your own FJR meet. It needn't be called WFO, perhaps named "Ride-To-Ride, FJRs in NorCal". Contact the hotels and restaurants, post the place and date, then see who might be interested.

That's exactly what Highlander has done with the annual Yo-Yo-Yosemite weekend, Bluestreek has done with the annual Hwy 3-36-97-299-36-101-1 weekend, The annual "Gathering of the Clans" (NorCal/SoCal) gathering by Highlander in Morrow Bay was a huge success last year, and there are more. IIRC, there is a Death Valley weekend meet in the planning/announced stage right now, IIRC others have planned weekends in the PNW. Some of you should go back and read the ride reports from the last year to get a feel of what happens on simple 3-day weekend rides and gatherings. This group of motorcyclists seems to be a rather gregarious bunch who love to ride and enjoy their new friends.

Come out and meet them. Volunteer. Be a part of what is happening. Organize your own weekend event. Join the staff at WFO. THEN make suggestions........

Rant over.....we now return control of your monitor so you can enjoy regularly scheduled program.

Well stated Mike!

The most I have ever done is volunteer to watch the bikes during the night at NAFO, and that was a bonus for me. I was able to welcome some of the first riders in who were coming in form doing their Iron Butt ride that was set up by Beeroux and kick tires with some fine people.

I can tell that putting on a event like that would take special skills.

It's not a matter of fear. I did my time in the city and belive me I really like all you people that like the city life because you are not out here bothering me.

As far as WFO it's like MM2 said, The real players will make or already have made the decision and then the choice is to attend or not.

Don't forget the goat chow and some extra bullets for them city folks when they try to move in. Don't want the neighborhood to go to **** with them fancy cars and coffee stands.

just in case your tv dont git no reception, happy new year.
You have no idea how right you are. Where I live there is no network TV unless you use an address out of the county. We do get sunlight but not much else. Happy new year to you as well.

bump.whats the dealio, dates and where....wtf
Reread post #28.
In case you're too lazy or inept at finding the exact information Matt is pointing to:

Remember that location is but one part of the process.
And remember the typical time line has been nailing down venue in the November December time frame and announcement in January or so. It'll keep being worked. ;)
Typically, the event is in the last part of July.

IMO, it will probably not be California and not likely East because the last 3 have been in that direction (Reno NV, Park City UT and Golden CO)

Now...that's the last of Mr. Nice Guy from mois! I am sharpening my skills as a "waiter-baiter".....and I'm very good at it! :yahoo: Trust me on this! :clapping: You could ask others and they'd tell you so! :dribble:

Beeee pay-shunt, er else!
