Some of us were forced to get out of bed early on Saturday (0530), ride 60 miles to meet other "early risers" (Bluestreek & exskibum) and then suffer the torture of following "The Dad" (Ridemaster, master planner, el jeffe, leader dude) Bluestreek up Hwy 99 to lunch in Red Bluff, then cross over I-5 and take Hwy 36...

YES, we DID stop at THE SIGN and take some pictures of the bikes and some of the people (I can't post photos on this motel computer but they will be forthcoming once we are home).

... :yahoo: Hwy 36 to Hwy 3 North :clapping: to Yreka.

Some (edit) 348 miles for me on twisting and winding moutain and valley roads.

Oh dang! Here at the hotel (after dinner at the Black Bear Diner--pics by FJRob to be posted) are Bluestreeks, excskibum, mm2, FJRay, FJRobs, Nightshine, & Highlanders.

I wish more of you could have joined us.

Since you are not here....we'll endure riding Hwy 96 to Hwy 299 back to Weaverville, then Hwy 3 South to Hwy 36 West to Fortuna. Alas....someone has to do it for you. :D

Neener-neener-neener! ;)

On top of everything else, dinner at a Black Bear! I shoulda just tied the lab to a tree and headed on up.

Sounds like a great trip and can't wait for the pics. Hope everyone had a fun and safe ride. And next time I hope to attend as it sucked thinking of you guys out riding while at work Sat. but as mentioned I was there in spirit also. Blessings, PM. <>< :yahoo:

I should have mentioned that, Saturday morning in Chico, we passed under an overpass and there was an FJR rider above, taking our photo....

MrWizard (Rob) from Oroville caught us and joined the ride. Then after lunch in Red Bluff, Mark (mhc), from Shasta Lake came riding up and joined the "parade".

Rob turned around and headed home at Noon (about 30 miles past (The Sign) and Mark rode with us to Yreka then headed South to Shasta because he had to work.

NorCal FJR owners!!!!! Wellll, if they can't get the day or weekend off but have a few spare hours....they just join in the fun where ever they can. :yahoo:

What a group! :clapping:

Spooning?

Not unless you mean Bluestreek wandering the halls and knocking on doors at midnight saying, "Cyndi's asleep and I'm lonely....does anyone want to play"?

I had to threaten to call the desk clerk to get him to go back to his room.

I heard that Highlander was out taking pictures of the bikes late Saturday night. Someone rumored that he was acting like a jealous "*****-boy" stirring up "stuff" because he had to sit with Dianne rather than at the Man Table. In typical girlie-boy fashion, being in touch with his feminine side, he is trying to deflect attention by creating a diversion. Just like a teenage girl, huh?

Those who have suffered through the teenage years while raising daughters know how it is, "It wasn't me, it was those guys!"

THE SIGN:

Pretty FJRs...all in a row.

Cindi is sitting on the Bluestreek-mobile and mhc (Mark) is backing in.

After the "sign pictures" (and there will be more posted by the others who took them) we continued another 30+ miles and turned North on Hwy 3:

We had a lovely evening in Yreka! The FJRobs (Rob & Terri) and FJRay rode up and we all headed for the Black Bear Diner for supper (The cameras were out so there will be other's photos of that.) While we were there the Highlanders (Dave & Dianne) arrived and walked over to the restaurant.

In the morning we were scheduled to depart @ 0900. Some of us are early risers and since we were up, had breakfast and were basically standing around....we left @ 0745.

exskibum on Hwy 96. The "upper end" is a bit dry...

...when you get closer to the Klamath River it bets more green.

For those of you who chose to not come and ride this beautiful scenery and undulating, curving roadway....

neener--neener--neener! :bleh:

For the rest of you...be watching for other rides in this area. What a treat! Hwy 96 for its absolute beauty and fun sweepers. :clapping: Then the twisty parts at the West end! :yahoo:

Hwy 299 East.....I was too busy to take pictures. Then Hwy 3 South to Hwy 36 West!

You simply have to experience these roads. No, really. I'm not kidding.

This morning I came down to the lobby early and there sat Cello II (Alan) who had ridden in from Sacramento....leaving home @ 0200 to get to Fortuna. That is a dedicated rider.

A trio, exskibum, Nightshine and I, decided to head South and skip breakfast at the Samoa Cookhouse. Yes, I know....Bad madmike...bad, bad, bad!

Rich and Sam on Hwy 101.

Rich and Sam on Hwy 281 (from Legget that connects to Hwy 1).

Yep, it's rather dark in the redwoods in the early, fog-shrouded morning.

Riding on this tight, twisty road I was just too busy to take any riding pictures. The same while heading down the coast on Hwy 1. We stopped in Fort Bragg for gas then Rich and I headed East on Hwy 20 (Another road you should put in your "Someday I'm Gonna Ride Book"!) while Sam headed farther South to take Hwy 128 across the valley to Cloverdale.

Rich and I stopped for lunch on the North shore of Clear Lake. This is a nice little cafe with great food.

After passing Clear Lake we continued on to Hwy 16 South, along Cache Creek. Heeeere's Rich!

Synopsis:

First day...348 miles.

From Elk Grove, North on Hwy 99 to Marysville. From there Steve & Cyndi, Rich, myself and then Rob (MrWizard) rode up 99 through Chico and eventually to Red Bluff for lunch.

There we were met by Nightshine and mhc and rode Hwy 36 to "The Sign" for a photo op, then on to Hwy 3 North to Yreka for the night.

Second day...315 miles.

Rich and I left early and rode down Hwy 96. Eventually we were caught by FJRay, and later by the entire cast of Yreka characters: Bluestreeks, Highlanders, FJRobs, huchieglide (formerly "Got Package"-Bob), and a couple of other Oregon riders who peeled off and took another road North.

"The Group" continued down 96, turned left on Hwy 299 and stopped for gas in Willow Creek. We watched, waved and yelled as Nightshine rode past the gas station. Later on we stopped at a roadside cafe for lunch. There I left while the group was "dressing" in their riding gear. I last rode Hwy 36 with OrangevaleFJR and decided I wanted to "be alone" this time. After passing through Weaverville, I turned right on Hwy 3 to Hwy 36 West. Somewhere around Cobbs of Dinsmore I spied 3 FJRs leaving a parking lot to get on Hwy 36: the Hycles (Mike & Terri), the Rogdebs (Roger & Debbie) and Nightshine had stopped for ice cream (Imagine that!).

On to Fortuna for gas and the hotel. Meet for dinner @ 1830.

Third day...344 miles.

The route, etc. explained above.

What a great weekend! :yahoo:

Thanks, Bluestreek, for planning this ride. :good:

Wonderful roads (I had only heard about them from Highlander, Bluestreek, exskibum and TWN...they were right!), terrific people and another set of memories with the NorCal FJR owners.

Life is good!

Thanks Mike for posting up some pics. Some awesome roads and great fall weather. Good to see you all from the Central Valley, a great group to ride with.

Good reports, and more to come, I know. I missed the first two days, and some mighty fine roads--really wanted to see 36, as well as the 96/3 loop, and definitely WILL in the next few months. But I met up with this happy group Sunday morning at the Samoa Cookhouse:

Let's see, far side of the table, there's FJRay, Cello II, Hycle (Terri and Mike), Cyndi and Steve (the Bluestreeks) Rog and Deb (yes, RogDeb), and Highlander (Dave only, Diane was, um, indisposed). Then R to L, backs to us, my daughter Shira (she goes to school at Humboldt State nearby), FJRob (Robert and Terri), and Huchiglide (Bob, who rode down from Oregon with FJRay). Did I miss anybody?

Outside, about 8 FJRs and one lonesome KLR

Only three bikes tried the "Lost Coast Loop" after breakfast, the others headed out in various directions. Sorry I missed Sam and Mike and, um, ex-bum. I mean ex-skibum. Sorry. And all you other laggards who didn't even come.

The Lost Coast ride was a bit hairy. The damn fog was so thick you couldn't see much of anything. I was behind Steve and Cyndi, and there were times I could see Cyndi, but not Steve sitting in front of her. Now THAT'S thick.

Then we got back to the Redwood State Park, and found the road closed for the running of the "Avenue of the Giants Marathon." We waited 20 or 30 minutes for a pilot car to thread us through the racers.

IMG_0645.jpg

On the way south, we'd pretty much decided to head in our own directions, so I jumped off 101 for a potty break. Ran into Steve and Cyndi at a gas station farther down the road. We chatted a minute, then I pulled out. Minute later, Steve blasts by me. Minute after that, an all-white CHP car without a light bar blasts by me even faster. Sorry Steve, if only I'd had a radio. And that wave I gave you as I rode on past you and the officer was one of sympathy. . .

Uh-oh! :dribble:

We saw THAT patrol car and a black& white coming North as we were headed South (Around the Humboldt Redwood State Park). The B & W was running active radar but the polar-bear was in stealth mode.

We fooled them as we were only riding along @ 60 mph because of the fog, possible deer and probable police patrol.

Sorry, Steve....... :(

What a great weekends riding :yahoo: You can't beat old friends and a great bike.

I'll add some more photos then

Teri & Debbie at Tims sign.
