    Adjusting the Handlebars.

NOW you tell me! ;) First time I did it I took the handlebars off and did each one separately, it was a pain in the neck! Now that I've done it a few times (added riser blocks, moved those forward and back to try different settings), it's become a lot easier. I'm a strong proponent of leaving...

Went to Portland OR, and stopped by a BMW dealership.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. Been running from dealer to dealer trying to find decent new gear. I still wear my Hein Gericke jacket that I bought back in Germany 13 years ago. None of the gear I've tried on so far seems to fit that well, pants being the hardest to find. I want something...

Sell the FJR, or will a PCIII fix the throttle?

One more thing to consider is idle RPM. Mine was set to 1,300 or so and the bike was running fine, but it didn't sound right when stopped. So I overcompensated and took it down to 900, and the bike became almost unrideable (bucking bronco like). Took it back up to 1,050 and everything's fine...

Sell the FJR, or will a PCIII fix the throttle?

I came off an R1150R so maybe I'm more tolerant to surges, but I was able to adjust by doing what others have suggested (shift down before sharp turns to be in a higher RPM band), and stiffening the front suspension made a huge difference for cornering. They were set way too soft, I dialed them...

Get out of 2nd gear much around town?

Around town I'm in third @30 mph, fourth @45 mph. Even coming down a long hill where the speed limit is 25 mph and cops are always out I find second to be revving too high for my taste and usually end up shifting into third.

The Million Mile Challenge. Who's In?

Yep, that's more than I did on my bimmer in a whole year. And I've just now got it set up the way I want it with Cee Bailey screen and bar risers from the unmentionable, so there'll be many more miles coming! :)

The Million Mile Challenge. Who's In?

3,500 miles since I bought the FJR in May.

    Pinging on deceleration

I was wondering about the same thing. I would describe it more as a crackling sound, almost like popcorn popping in a pot with the cover on. Glad to hear it's normal.

Brand new 2008 idle problem + oil

Sounds like an electrical problem. Shouldn't stall at speed if it were a low idle issue.

    Sad Day Today

That sucks. But they'll replace every part that has as much as a minor scratch and you won't know the difference afterwards. Yamaha has nothing to do with it, dealers are all independently owned AFAIK. Time to find a new one (after this one makes it right). Also wouldn't hurt to drop Yamaha HQ a...

new owner, first long ride impressions

Washington State law does allow you to exceed the speed limit during a passing maneuver on a 2-lane highway: "Provided, That a person following a vehicle driving at less than the legal maximum speed and desiring to pass such vehicle may exceed the speed limit, subject to provisions of RCW...

    05 Seat Mod

Sounds pretty close to what the custom seat guy here in town does, only he uses multiple layers of foam and carves the seat exactly to your specs, then puts a custom leather cover over it. I'm sure you get at least half the benefit at 10% of the cost. I remember he had those gel things and he...

new owner, first long ride impressions

That's exactly what blew my mind on my first longer ride -- had to pass 12 or so Harley riders on a 2-lane highway, so I dropped down a gear and gunned it. By the time I was past them and moved back over I was going 110 mph.

    Fuel Economy

I just passed 2,000 miles, so I should be past the break-in period. It does seem to run sort of high at idle, around 1,200-1,300. Is that where it's supposed to be (past warm-up)?

    Fuel Economy

Either you guys all ride like old farts or there is something wrong with my 07. 35-38 mpg on average is what I'm getting. I would describe my style as spirited but not aggressive. Shift points usually between 4-5,000 rpm. <_< I'm running 20w50 YamaLube, maybe I'll try something a bit...

    2008 FJR Pricing

Agree in general, try to build the relationship, however, most dealerships will happily take you under their wing even if you bought the bike from somebody else -- the service department is a profit center. When I realized that the service department of the dealership I bought from wasn't that...

    '08 vrs '07> throttle stiffness

That brought up a lot of posts, finding the one with the (awesome) instructions took a bit of looking around. Eventually found it though.

    SoCal maintenance

They offered it to me too, I passed. Didn't want to be locked in to that particular dealer, I do minor stuff like oil and lube changes myself, I take good care of my stuff, and it just didn't sound like a good deal factoring in time value of money and the possibility of specials being available...

    Inconsiderate FJR Rider

Seriously? I would say it is pretty rare, maybe 2 or 3 a day, that will NOT return a wave around here. Harley riders almost always do, the flip flop/tank top on sportbike crowd is the most likely not to return a wave in my experience.

    Picking up 07FJRAE

From the 2007 manual: Engine break-in There is never a more important period in the life of your engine than the period between 0 and 1600 km (1000 mi). For this reason, you should read the follow- ing material carefully. Since the engine is brand new, do not put an excessive load on it...
