    Backup drivers backrest

I've used the Kuryakyn Tombstone bag as tailbag and driver's backrest: https://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=metric&ci=3131. It has an internal frame and you can switch pads to get the right amount of support. The catch is that you have to attach it to a passenger backrest. I did a 3k trip...

    YamaLube

Folks, I think there is a logical explanation: he was riding up hill on the way there, and down hill on the way back. With a tail wind.

    Center Stand

Put the bike in reverse, give it some throttle, and put downward pressure on the center stand as you are sitting on the bike. In all seriousness, in can be difficult to get up on the centerstand if you have a non-level surface. I got a debilitating impingement one time after trying to muscle...

Converting FJR from shaft drive to chain drive

Forget chain drive: I want to convert mine to belt drive. That way when I take it camping, I can turn it into a generator by simply removing the back wheel and hooking the belt to a dynamo.

    Sidestand and heat

Hasn't failed me yet. Fits in the cubby. Available via a lot of places, but I got mine at denniskirk.com

    Pilot Road 2 - who's got 'em?

I'm running 39 in the front, 42 in the rear.

    Pilot Road 2 - who's got 'em?

Just shy of 9,000 miles on my PR2's and wanted to post pics. Keep in mind that these tires have been babied: no power wheelies, no burnouts, no stoppies, and actually, no curves (the fate of most FL riders). 90% of their wear occurred while commuting at highway speeds (usually 75 mph) trying...

    How many tickets?

Zero, but one close call for rolling through a stop sign. The officer, who was very nice and let me go with a verbal warning, asked "How are you doin' today?" when he approached. I answered, "I was doing much better two minutes ago." He laughed, knew that I knew I rolled through, & could see...

    Need Tire Review

HYCLE, If you had to guess about remaining tire life on the rear, what would you estimate?

    Aerodynamics and Bees

Renegade, I feel--have felt--your pain: had one hit me in the neck, sting me there, and then crawl his gooey *** down into my shirt. My guess is that mass has something to do with it not getting pushed up by the air stream like lighter insects. Now that I think about it, heavier items do see...

I'm partial to the Wolf Whistle 3000.

    Let's Talk About Summer Gloves

I'm sure these get marked down in terms of durability/abrasion resistance, but I have a pair of AGV mesh gloves https://www.agvsport.com/www/Magnum.asp with gel palms that I like for hot weather (90+) riding. They allow lots of airflow/cooling, but I'm not sure how long they would last skidding...

    Your favorite Scotch

A distiller needs to remake the scene in Dr. Strangelove with Slim Pickens so that he is riding a giant bottle of bourbon and waving his hat. "We'll Meet Again" plays in the background. The bottom of the screen reads "Worried about Doomsday? Protect your precious bodily fluids: X and a splash...

    Happy Two-Year Anniversary, FJR!

Actually, I had a student who was stung by a ray while diving from a boat in FL waters. He didn't die, but his leg sure did swell. As it turns out, he increased his odds of being stung dramatically by teasing the stingrays (grabbing and not letting go). Don't tease the FJR. Hold on, but...

    Your favorite Scotch

my favorite less expensive--but still tasty--single malts are Oban and Glenkinchie.

Anyone else experience odd semi-truck driving today?

I know that truckers are talking about a national strike, but does anyone have wind of other potential tactics--primarily lane hogging, slow downs, and use of hazard lights? On the commute to work this morning, southbound on I-75 between Gainesville and Ocala, probably half a dozen trucks had...

And they wonder why I dis 'em.

The HD snobs do tempt us to call them assless chaphats, but they are not all snobs. This morning I saw one other bike on the road (34 degrees and heavy frost). It was a HD: I waved expecting to get the cold shoulder/turn the head in the opposite direction/a fluttering of tassels, but I got an...

    fjr or vmax

My brother has an 89 Max with a carb kit. It would simply walk away from my stock 06 Max. Last summer he and I did a few "experiments" between my 07 FJR and his Max. From a standing start, the Max hammered the FJR. However, when we got to fourth gear and top gear roll ons, the FJR spanked...

What new bike would you buy...

I'd put it in certificates of deposit and wait for the new V-Max to appear.

Spotted an '06 in Gainesville, FL

Spotted an 06 heading west(ish) on NW 16th at the corner of NW 34th yesterday (Feb 19). I was on the 07 heading south on 34th.
