    Willie and MeAsWe go West

Nice web site and trip report. Hitting all the BBQ places was a nice theme. I usually do that for brewpubs, but BBQ places sound just as good. I have been to a lot of the places you hit and it is one of the reasons I choose to live in the West.

Best bang for the buck GPS

I have a Garmin 265WT on a Ram mount. I put a quart size ziploc bag over it when it rains. We were in Colorado last month going up I70 to the tunnel when it was raining so hard that it was dark as night. The Nuvi did not get wet, the bag did not fly off and the Nuvi still works fine. It is a...

    Big Bear

That is an excellent route. Be careful on 138 between Silverwood Lake and Crestline as there are a lot of very tight corners. If you do not scrap pegs on that section you are a wuss. I cannot join you as I am starting a two week trip to Utah, Colorado, and Arizona on June 5.

    Big Bear

Slappy, 39 does not go as far as 2. The section past Crystal Lake has been closed since 1978 because they cannot keep it open due to rock slides.

New to me FJR in the stable!!

My 2007 has a slight clunk the first time I apply the front brakes. I had my dealer check the steering head bearings when I had the ignition switch recal done. They said every thing was fine and torqued it to spec. So I just ignore it now.

    Canyon Carving

I would start with ynotride's route. This drops you on I-15 near Cajon Pass then take CA-138 to CA-2 and follow MojaveFJR's route. You will have hit nearly half of the best roads in Southern California that way. You might also hit the roads up to Mt. Palomar off of CA-76 near the start of...

How many significant others ride their own bike?

The wife just rides pillion, but she has gotten real good at it. We have taken motorcycle tours in the Alps, Norway, and New Zealand and she loved those trips. I only occasionally get sporty when she is on the back, but she has never complained when I have fun like that. I think she trusts me...

    Warm came to the ride

A couple of friends and I wanted to go to Chaparral Motorsports in San Bernardino, CA. This is my reason for not going on Santa Fe Dream's ride and I am sticking to it. I also had the weekend alone since the wife is at the "Lotus developers conference" at Disney World in Orlando, FL. Yes, she...

    Multi-Pass Day in Swiss Alps

The wife and I took an Edelweiss Bike Tour from Munich to Nice in August 1998. The second night stay was in Andermatt. We rode some of the roads in your photos. Your photos brought back some nice memories as that was one superb way to see the Alps. Thanks for sharing.

Local dealer no longer selling 20w-40 oil

You should check out this website. It has lots of good information on oil and oil filters. https://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Consumables.html#Oil I am going to put the Chevron Delo 400 oil in my FJR tomorrow. I chose this based on the information in this website.

Long Beach, CA International Motorcycle Show

I don't need to go this year. I went last year in order to see the Concours 14 and the FJR. I wanted to test ride the Connie 14 as I was a Kawasaki rider since 1980. I did not like the Concours 14. I went out and bought my FJR in February and couldn't be happier with my decision and purchase...

    Dry rear splines answered

OK, I have read all the threads and looked at all the links. Here is my analysis and summary. The dry spline everyone is talking about is the forward one where the drive shaft connects to the U-joint that connects to the transmission. It sounds like it would be a good idea to grease this with...

SOCAL FJR Riders October Ride - October 18, 2008

I'm going to opt out on this one because I don't think my butt would survive this. I admit to not being a member of the Iron Butt society. It does look like a good ride for the hardcore Forum members.

    Westward Ho!!

I grew up in northern Illinois and moved west to California and 5 years in Colorado after graduating from U of Illinois. I can see by the wonder in your report the same thing I felt when I moved west. I now tell everyone, including my family still in northern Illinois, that I will never live...
