Argon Laser for a retinal tear

The condition you're referring to is called posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). As you say it can create tension on the retina causing distorted vision, flashes of light and, in some cases, can detach the retina. It can be treated surgically, but it is a very delicate operation. I know...

    How many Motorcycles?

Have two: '06 FJR and '05 H-D Sportster 1200 (around town bike). I don't 'need' either of them.

New Ignition Switch and 16k Service

I checked the paperwork and it looks like they just followed the recommendations on the 16k column of the maintenance chart. Nothing about the oil seals mentioned above. Tab was $329 labor and $96 in parts (oil (synthetic blend), coolant, plugs, filter, etc.). Total $425. All three dealers...

    Gas Mileage Issue

Just for comparison, my '06A with new ECU, new ignition switch, and CB +4 +3 averages around 45 mpg in a mix of city and highway riding, which is about the same as it was getting before all these changes. This is with 89 octane gas from whatever station I happen to be near when I need it. Maybe...

New Ignition Switch and 16k Service

Picked up my '06 today after the above work and took it for a 100 mi. test ride. No drama; runs as good as, or even better than, before. SLO Motorsports in San Luis Obispo did the work. They ordered the switch after a phone call from me, let me know when it came in, and had the bike for a day...

Poll: Average age of an FJR rider

I just turned 68 and ride either my FJR or my Harley nearly every day. I want to do the Four Corners USA tour this summer, but can't seem to find anyone with the time/money or necessary craziness to take it on.

San Jose sighting again= '07 with yellow helmet

Just further evidence that not every FJR owner is a member of this forum. I know 2 FJR owners (one in Simi Valley, CA; the other in Pismo Beach, CA) who had never heard of this, or any of the other FJR forums, and who, to date, have shown no interest in participating. Further, I'm sure there are...

Anyone know how much it would cost to paint or replace bag/mirror?

I've got lots of scratches and nicks like that on my '06. I just touch it up with the Color Rite kit. But then, I'm not currently selling mine. I guess some buyers expect perfect paint work on a 3 year-old bike.

Yamaha to redo the LD Royal Star Venture??

Looking forward to riding the Kawasaki Voyager. Proven 1700cc engine with EFI, 6 speed tranny, belt drive, and all the bells and whistles. Obviously meant to compete with the Harley Glides, but at about $5k less.

Yamaha to redo the LD Royal Star Venture??

It would be about time, particularly since Kawasaki has introduced their new 1700cc Voyager, a very nice, modern, touring bike.

    CeeBailey +4w x +2h with flip windshield on 2007

I've got a +4 +3 with flip on my '06. I'm 5'11" and my experience is similar to that of the original poster. Because of comments on this forum, I ordered the gasket with the windshield, but then didn't need it because the windshield came with one. Now I have a spare. I used the stock shield with...

    Yamaha's Woes

I believe sport/touring bikes in general represent a niche market worldwide (as opposed to cruisers, standards, dirt bikes, and scooters (according to their annual report, Yamaha's best seller in terms of units worldwide is a 50cc scooter). With these bad times, I think our Gen IIs (maybe with...

So . . . . worth keeping and upgrading? Or get a new bike?

If you've been away a while, I'd say come home, get the FJR serviced up to snuff and ride it for a while. You liked it before you left, you'll probably still like it. Then, when you figure out what kind of riding you're going to be doing realistically, you can make a decision. If you've got $20k...

    What would ya say?

I've never understood why some folks get offended when a stranger doesn't know what kind of bike they're riding. And this seems a common thread on every forum. The truth is, the vast majority of people in the USA and abroad don't ride and have no interest in motorcycles. So, why are they idiots...

Opinions on stock seat (Gen II)

I'm 5' 11", 160 lbs. I rode the stock seat for a little over a year. The only issue I had was that it pushed me into the hard lip of the seat around the tank. Since I didn't want a saddle seat, I went for the Spencers Seat Mod ( https://greatdaytoride.com ). I only had the rider's seat modified...

    Harley-Davidson Seeks Bank Bailout Funds

It's disturbing to see anyone cheer when yet another American company teeters on the edge of going under. Those are thousands of real jobs lost and more families hurting.

    Heli Bar HRT076 and HRT076-2

The -2 offers 2 handlebar positions (forward and back), while the original HRT076 only offers one. Either will fit your bike.

    Doood! What up?

Maybe he bought it because it's comfortable, has great weather protection, excellent storage, doesn't weigh 900 lbs., and runs as it should out of the box without dumping more money into it to make it run properly (referring to my current Harley). Those are the reasons I bought my '06. As to his...

Laminar Lip AND D426ST Givi Screen

I have a 'Lip' on my Harley windshield and like it, so I added one to the stock shield on my FJR when I bought it a little over a year ago. Recently, I bought a CB +4+3+flip for more protection this winter. When I took off the stock sheld with the 'Lip,' I noticed an internal crack in the stock...
