2004 FJR1300 - fork overhaul - this happened during reassembly. :(  Please save the comments about stupidity - I realize that a torque wrench would have prevented this, and I am kicking myself.

Can the part, circled in red, be purchased separately, or do I need to get the entire damper assembly?

Does anyone have fork guts for a first gen they want to sell cheap?

You'll need the dampening rod assembly or left over parts from a suspension upgrade. Open a thread in the wanted section and start hunting on ebay and wreckers for parts.

Good luck!

The reason you could not show the image is you neglected to include the .jpg extension in your link. I find the easiest way to add the link is to select the image in imgur or wherever. right click it and select the "Copy image Location" option from the drop-down.

Yeah, I was obviously having a "brain fart" yesterday.  I used the "copy link" option in imgur and it did not work.  I was in a rush and did not think it through.

@escapefjrtist, I've been searching.  I found a used damper in Germany for $163, but shipping is shown as over $1000!  I gave my '04 to my son-in-law and he is itching to get it on the road.  I think he is going to opt for buying the parts new so we can get the bike on the road next weekend.  I did contact a few local salvage yards and if we're luck, something will be available.  I'll find out tomorrow.

Any Gen I or II fork internals will fit.  It happens more often than you think.  It is a weak point in the cartridge.

I see you are a member of Naked Wines 😀 Same here...
I am?  What is naked wines?

EDIT:  Oh, the box!  Yes, my girlfriend got a big box of wine for the big new wine cooler I bought her for her birthday. A friend gave her a coupon, and she got 12 bottles of wine for $79.  She says that everything that she's tried, she has liked.  As for me, I like microbrews and high end tequila.

The compression valve is what is broken on the bottom of the cartridge.  I think I still have a pair of Compression valves off my 1st Gen from when I upgraded to GP valves.  Pretty sure I only gave away the rebound valves previously, but I might be remembering it wrong.  Let me know if you want me to go searching for them.

curiosity got the better of me.  Just went through my part stash.  No valves.  Guess I gave them all away.  Sorry for false hope.

Yes, thank you for thinking of me, @Fred W.  We got what we need.  It arrived yesterday, and my son-in-law will come over so we can finish the forks on Saturday.
