Here's my plan: Wed: just an easy ride around echanted circle (84 miles, anyone go'n who wants more ride'n can loop down to mora, after stop at vietnam memorial)

Thursday: ride up to Great sand dunes Nat'l park (226 miles round trip) Get some sandwiches at subway/or such before leaving taos for lunch at the park.

Gawd you bunch of girls are really tempting me. I may coordinate with my ******* brother and see if he has a free day to ride. If he does, I'll head up the day before after work, stay the night somewhere and then ride with you all the next day. I'll head home after that.

I'll call the Beemer riding idiot and see what his schedule looks like.

Saludos HotRodZilla and Patch 308: If you dos Hombres would step up as Ride Leaders for the day that NMRoadRunner - Bud does not lead the group, that would be great! Bud said he will post up sometime this weekend stating whether he will lead either on Wednesday or on Thursday, if you two would take the other day: Es Perfecto!

This would be fantastico if Dos Hermanos could lead us for a day! It would be hell of a lot better if we had local New Mexican riders leading the SW-FOG 2011 pack, instead of a couple of dumb ass Zonies like Papa Chuy and Big-D! Recuerdos, Senor Medina "El Burrito Ballerina"

Sand Dunes are ok, but there's a Gator Farm about 10-15 minutes from there that is waaaay more interesting. Just my .02.

Gator Farm? WTF? Is it slang for a whorehouse like the "Chicken Ranch" or the "Bunny Hutch" in Nevada. "Gator Farm" sounds like a bordello RadioHowie would go to!

RadiHowie's choice of companionship aside, the Gator Farm is exactly that... a place with a boat-load of Gators. It's in Mosca Colorado, just a few miles down the road from the sand dunes; feel free to google it.

Not really interested in the gator farm, and I've been to the Sand Dunes and was not impressed. How far is it to Pike's Peak?

Greg, I would heartily recommend catching Pike's Peak coming or going to SW-FOG 2011. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikes_Peak Take the cog railway to the Summit, the road is not fully paved yet. https://www.cograilway.com/

https://pikes-peak.com/Attraction/22.aspx Road is a toll road and very pricey: Car containing five is $40, you will need to call and find out how much a motorcycle is charged to ride up: 1-800-318-9505. Geezer, this is well worth doing - incredibly scenic; much better than screwing an alligator, even though RadioHowie would argue that one!!!

Thanks Don. I have ridden up Pike's Peak on the road and I think that's the only way to go. :)

Anyway, I was just trying to come up with alternatives to the Dunes and Gators. If Pike's is 4 hours each way to get there and back then it probably isn't a reasonable day trip from Taos. You need to spend some time at the top once you get there.

https://www.gatorfarm.com/ It would be really fun to throw RadioHowie into the Gator Pond. Let's keep this option open, OK!

"Much better than screwing an alligator." I'm gonna use that quote here somewhere.

Buncha perverted dipshits!

As far as what to do other than ride your motorcycle, well:

You can ride to Taos Ski Valley, ride the lift up and hike down.

You can ride to Chama and ride the Cumbers Toltec Railroad. If you call ahead, they will transport your bike with you and will drop you off at one of the stops. Then you can ride back to Taos.

You can ride to Sandia Peak and check out the view from 11,000 feet above Albuquerque. You can stop in Madrid along the way and grab an awesome lunch at the Mine Shaft Tavern.

You can ride to AngelFire and just hang out at the Vietnam Memorial. Sometimes its just a good place to sit and think about sacrifices made that are bigger than ours.

You can ride to Eagles Nest, spend $26 on a fishing license, or less for the seniors, go to the lake, and catch some awesome fish after spending some time enjoying the altitude, clean air and awesome views.

You may even be able to find something cool going on in Taos Pueblo, but I doubt it during the week.

You can ride to Jemez and find a great hot spring where you can hang out, soak, and just feel better. Hell, you could make the trip to Pagosa and do the same.

There's more than sand and Alligators boys and girls.

Try Google...It is probably your friend.

My day as ride leader is now in a hold pattern. :dribble: I just picked up an emergeny response project with the Army Corp of Engineers-Cochiti resevior. We have to fabricate 1000' of floating boom, and deploy it up stream from the lake, across the canyon, to catch debris from the fires from running into the lake. Then tug it down stream to empty it and re-deploy it. This will last about 9 months they are guessing. While I can't commit to leading for a particular day ride, I will still try to join you all for ride. :yahoo:

Unfortunately I can't make it this year, gotta work. Hopefully the schedule will work out for next year. Colorado in August would be awesome!

Sorry to hear that you won't make The Big Party flyball, we will see you next year. Tentatively, SW-FOG 2012 will be Thursday, August 16 through Sunday, August 19 and will be at the Holiday Inn in Gunnison; Big-D and Papa Chuy will post the specifics on New Year's Day!

It was either Karl Marx in "Das Kapital" or Groucho Marx in "Animal Crackers" who stated: "Work is the Curse of The Motorcycling Classes!" nuff' said and jes' sayin'

FJROB and wife Terrie Lynn will be attending our SW-FOG coming from up around Old Michael's neck of the woods.

Will be having my new front tire installed tomorrow.

Next year SW-FOG in Colorado I'd like to get opinions of adding an additional day to see if we get much interest. Three days is good, but a forth day in Colorado would be great also, provided people show an interest.
