My only plan is for a Steak Dinner on Saturday night. Local Lions Club is cooking, $25 per person. Don't know if that includes s beer
Is there another thread/sign up for this started yet? I couldnt find it if there was one.... but then again I am about 2 chromosomes away from having to wear a helmet at breakfast, so....
Just simmer down and ignore the crazy firefighter setting up my dinner plans for Thursday night. Big John's Saturday night steak feast plans will come soon. I am in the middle of a North Dakota Winter and will prolly not see a motorcycle move for a couple more months, so please excuse me.

It's not like you're entering her in the race :)

After conferring with my better half this morning over some coffee, my plans have been firmed up a bit. And then I hit her up with the pig races (Going to, not entering in, just for clarification) and she said it sounded like fun. So I am IN for Thursday night with two! Let me know if you need anything further for the reservations when the time comes.

We should be getting into Red Lodge sometime early afternoon, enough time to set up camp and then be ready for some bacon races.

I've seen a few racin' pigs in my time. I'll be there to see a few more race on this Thursday night, probably have my BMW riding buddy in tow. Are these 2 or 4 legged pig races?

Bigjohnsd is that really a question, you don't take your better half to the 2 legged pig races only the 4 legged ones.

Are you gonna grease up these pigs or should I bring my own?
I guess you'lll have to show us how it is done in Montana.
Do I hear banjos?? You got a real purdy mouff boy!! Squeal like a pig!!

I thought that was more of an EOM conversation.

I figured Red Lodge was more of a sheep town.

If it does we're all bringing the wrong machines to town! <img src='https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/cold.gif' alt='Posted Image' class='bbc_emoticon' /> <img src='https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/tonguesmiley.gif' alt='Posted Image' class='bbc_emoticon' /> <br />

It'll look different because they will have the Christmas lights down.

Riding Around Red Lodge

Red Lodge is a small town that sits at the northern base of the Beartooth Pass. For a town its size it has a good selection of restaurants, bars and motels. They hold the Beartooth Rally in mid-July which fills the town with HDs and other cruisers. The week prior to Sturgis also sees the town fill with the same sort of bikes and riders. Always good to be far from the Yellowstone NP and the surrounding area when the Sturgis crowd is traveling.

The riding in the the Red Lodge area is pretty good. The main road from the north is HWY 212 that runs from I-90 at Laural. I recommend avoiding this road as it is straight and often heavily trafficked. A better option if coming from the north is to take HWY 78 from I-90 at Columbus. 78 runs through Absarokee, Fishtail and Roscoe. It is a good road for high speed riding on an FJR with long sweepers, good visability and road surface. I've never seen a LEO on 78. There are a couple of uphill sweepers that have farm roads intersecting with 78 at the corner apex, so if you cannot see the apex then assume it is occupied by a hay wagon. Try the fried mushrooms at the Dew Drop Inn in Absarokee (there will be a contest to see who can say that name correctly). The Beartooth Pass is a great ride with great views. Several switchbacks and generally full of tourist and cruiser traffic. It is a fairly technical ride on the north face, but don't get your hopes up for an unobstructed ride. The Chief Joseph Scienic Byway can be accessed from the bottom of the south face of the Beartooth. Again great views, but a greater variety of corners. The road surface is not the best due to a bazillion tar snakes in many areas. These can be sphincter tightening on a warm day. The view from the top at Dead Indian Pass is worth the ride. When you get to the end of the CJ you can turn around and do it again, head north on HWY 120 to Belfry and then HWY 308 back to Red Lodge (which is an okay ride), or take 120 south to Cody. The Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody is fantastic. The Cody Firearms museum is a must see if you have any interest in guns. If you really want to see it then trying to combine it with the Beartooth and CJ will be too much unless you plan to stay the night in Cody.

Another variation on a long day ride is to ride the Beartooth then enter the park at the the Silver Gate entrance (NE Corner), see what you wish of the park and then exit to the east on HWY14 that leads to Cody. Or leave the park through the Gardiner gate (NW Corner) and ride the Paradise Valley up to I-15 at Livingston.

Do all that you can to ride the Bighorn Mountains in north central WY. I'll let BigJohn fill you in on the rides in that area since it is in his back yard.

+1 Kevin. Realy enjoyed 78, etc. back in '07, but I could spend a week around there no problem! Second time around is going to be much better!
