Like others here I am in the group that doesn't care what others wear. Your an adult, it's your skin, your head, your injury/death and your family. Wear what you want.

That being said, dorks doing wheelies and acting like idiots are more likely to avoid gear. At traffic stops, riders in full gear many times get more leeway than those that are not. If you can be convinced that gear is a good idea, maybe a warning is enough to convince you to ride within the law...

Now...Kids on bikes without gear and helmets get the riders cited every time. I know when I learned to ride, I didn't have a helmet or gear and I turned out fine, but we also didn't really know any better. These days, parents should know to protect their kids and the cost of gear has gone way down.

really I couldn't care less who wears what....Their big boys and girls go for it. BUT....As a Paramedic and Nurse I have witnessed horrific injuries because these big boys and girls decided to exercise their free will. It was mostly unnecessary and immensely costly both in angst and heartache for the families and those on the periphery. So wear what you like, its your head, your skin your bones, your face etc..But don't carry on when you come off and lose a lot more than you really should have because remember your exercising your "Free Will.

Taking a break today at a gas station, HD rider stops next to me, takes off his little beanie helmet and says man I hate these helmets, wish Missouri didn't have helmet laws, I wouldn't wear it. That's why I like rideing in Arkansas.

Told him I didn't agree, I face planted a full face helmet once, and always wore one, that it was worth it, besides didn't like bugs hitting me in the face.

Then he noticed that the windshield on my bike was covered with bugs and asked me how I could see through it.

Now I got to explain that windshields aren't for looking through. Awwwwwwwwwwww. forget it.

Oohh my, maybe I'm wrong with all this power ranger crap?

I'm thinking the same thing...at least prior to asphalt surfing! :dribble:

Thug, I agree. BTW, are you longest non-continental FJR peep ever? I think so. Anyway, sure, let each decide. I just don't want to be around to see the carnage.
I go back to my original statement - most bikers are idiots with regards to wearing proper gear in the US. Sure, sudden deceleration and you are toast. But I dare any pirate to step off at, say, 45 mph.. I will do the same, on a bike I don't care about, with my Power Ranger gear on.. and see who ends up in ER or not.. sorry, free decision or not, if you ain't dressed for the crash you are an *****.

So says the Candy Butt Association prezident who has sampled dirt and road samples several too many times..

Even when it's 100 degree's in Georgia it's always jeans & riding boots. Shifting with sandals would feel terrible as well IMO. But too each his own. (sigh)
I hope you don't think jeans are any better protection than riding naked. They might protect you from bug splats to the shin, but that's about it. Like you said, though, to each his own.
I'm not a AGATT rider nor have I ever claimed to be. And neither Jeans or thicker riding jeans will never give you the protection of full armored/textile riding pants. Regular jeans basically are useless if you go down on the pavement but like you said it's better for bugs/rocks/debris to have them on over exposed legs from shorts. There has to be a happy medium for me where I'm not a total ***** in shorts and sandals but that I don't feel like my sack is completely sticking to my leg in 100 degree heat either.

In the cooler weather I wear my armored/textile riding pants over my jeans which I really like. I probably should invest in the mesh/armored riding pants for the hot Summer months......then I can just wear my banana thong under them and ride in complete comfort!!! ....... ;)

But I am a fairly self-reflective guy, and I wonder, Why do I give a sh*t how someone else dresses when they ride a motorcycle? I know others on the forum think it's silly to judge fellow riders by what they wear, judging by the comments I've seen.

Why DO we get angry or outraged or whatever when we see riders not wearing ATGATT? What's up with that???
Because it winds up affecting my personal insurance costs by skewing the risk history for my type of motorcycle. Other than that, I'm all for "to each his own".

:)
