Don, I know that you have been considering all this for some time and that these decisions were not spur of the moment but I ask that you reconsider.
First, you WILL get movement and use of your right arm. This is not an option, not an opinion, this is a fact. It will (and does) hurt, you will suffer even more than you already have, but you will do it. The story I read at the beginning of this thread was about a man who had crashed but was too tough to quit. The hero of this story is a fighter and he will prevail. Be that hero Don. Do whatever you have to do to get that arm useful again.
Second, you have told us that you "No longer trust my dirt riding skills". How many years have you been riding dirt bikes? How many years, how many thousands of miles do you have on motorcycles? How many different countries have you covered on two wheels? If someone with your vast experience cannot trust his skills, who among us can ride safely? Like I told you before, just cut the intensity back a notch or two.
Third, selling off your motorcycles is a sure way to sink into a deep, dark depression. Motorcycles and boats are two things that should only be sold for an Upgrade. Never sell either out of desperation. The pain and loss of selling a good motorcycle is worse than watching it collect dust in your shop. Don't do it.
Fourth, honestly consider what your capabilities as a rider will be. If you have "limited use" of your arm, if you are "Getting Old", if your reflexes are slowing, does that mean you should just Quit? NO!!! It does not. I see idiots on bikes all the time that should not be riding. From the Crotch Rocket Kid who cannot get his "new" ZX 600 out of the parking lot but is making lots of noise to the HD guy with a bandanna, no gloves and a cool non-DOT helmet riding from bar room to bar room, there are lots of folks with ZERO skills and experience out there riding. You Don Stanley are better than all of them. A limited Don Stanley is still a better rider than the vast majority of riders on the road today.
My friend do not, PLEASE do not sell off your motorcycles and give up on yourself just yet. We, the FJRForum have not given up on you.
