Hi Folks.

Appreciate all the feedback you're giving as it helps in the decision making process.

I'll tell you my biggest concerns right now is the FI system glitch/snatch I've been reading about. Now I've read on the FZ1 forum about Ivan's FCI box that supposedly fixes this, but it's still in the back of my head. Basically what happens if the box fizzles/fries as has happened before to me? Not something I wish to expose Mrs Flyer to. Also the reported lack of lower midrange is a concern, especially as I'm looking at the FZ1 as a sport touring companion to my FJR. Basically wondering how the power is for a loaded up bike? Does a person have to work the shifter to make the pass, or is there enough torque to pull loads?

Anyways guys .. Have a Merry Christmas season and thanx again for all your help.

The FZ1 really wasn't set up to carry big loads IMO. It takes a little extra effort to keep the power delivery constant. You have to row the gears to maintain some revs well beyond what the FJR requires to produce the same power. The easy fix for that is to change the final gearing. I have a 16 tooth front gear that will let me stay in the power band more easily. The ability to pass without downshifting depends on so many situation variables, but overall power delivery on the FZ1 hasn't been a problem for me completely stock, even two up. You can scare the B-jeezas out of yourself and your passenger if you aren't careful. It's like all bikes, you just have to experience it for yourself, but I can honestly tell you, coming off a 125 HP Honda ST1300, I haven't been the least bit disappointed in the FZ1. BTW, I don't have Ivan's FCE and feel I don't really need it. If you are going to race the bike, get the FCE ...or buy an R1!

Merry Christmas to you, too!

John Bunton (who was the original Fastbag source in the US back in the early days of the FJR) had been wanting an FJR beofre they were imported. He had an FZ1 that he imported a set of lowers for and, essentially, built-up a "baby Feejer". I've ridden it. It's not a Feejer (and some would like that). It's verything an FZ1 is that the FJR isn't. It's slightly lighter, you have to wring it's neck, your exposed to more wind (at 70mph is was like being in a wind tunnel), etc.

Alright, Mark, you are right about the FZ1. Even though John's was an early FZ1, they aren't a good replacement for the FJR, especially the 2nd generation FZ1s, but they are still great bikes, and can be off the scale on the " fun" meter. :)

Roger

PS. Looking forward to you sending me a Power Point presentation of the future "red" models of FZ1s.
