Yeah, Shoney's is just bad. No reason to eat there at all with a Bob Evans right down the road.
So just to summarize the breakfast options:

(walk to Shoney's)

- Risk serious illness or intestinal distress.

(2 minute ride to Bob Evans)

- Safer, cleaner, and identifiable food and condiments.

I would go with the latter :)
There was free breakfast at the hotel!!!

Sunday I was the first one at breakfast and made a pig of myself with a rather large plate of SOS. No "intestinal distress" and I did not have a heart attack that day

There was...

Breakfast to some, snacks to others, still...

It looked as good or better than *most* hotel breakfasts, but I was still scared :D

(Note: this post is not a complaint, the Briar Inn more than met my expectations at all levels).

And that's the beauty of the "Continental Breakfast."

They never said which continent.

Continental breakfast was very good. They had cereal and pastry every morning along with some hot food. Sausage one day, bacon the next. Even biscuits and gravy one day. They even had fresh apples and bananas that I took for snacking later in the day. ;)

The eggs... the eggs should not have been called "eggs". The other stuff was ok. I ate it all mornings except the morning at the Paint Bank Country Store. Now, that is what I call a really good breakfast!

I just drove the son from Maryland to a college visit at State College, Pennsylvania. The last 2+ hours, I kept telling him that I wished we'd taken the bike as the roads were at least as good as the area around Lewisburg. There are plenty of hotels and restaurants around the PA turnpike exits, too. I could sure see it as a great location.

Unfortunately, it is further for the southern contingent. That's the great thing about the Lewisburg to Canaan Valley area, is that it's more even for all of us to get to.

Either way, I'd be up for EOM'08.

I have attended 3 EOMs.....Townsend, Boone, Lewisburg. I have had a blast at all of them. I am most appreciative of all of the folks that have invested so much time to make the event happen. I don't care where it is....I don't care how good or convenient the food is.....I don't care how much the hotel costs........all of these things are the "price of admission" to an event with lots of nice folks with interests similar to mine. An event that is one of the hi-lights of my riding season. i don't understand why there is a continual whining about.....food...price....location.....date......I realize that not everyone can be happy, but I would think some of us would be. I will be thrilled if someone picks up responsibility for planning EOM-08......and I will be there.....and have a ball!

Thanks.....my 2 cents.

I got robbed of attending this years EOM even after I had reservations all set months in advance but I sure will be at the next one where ever it is.

Don't think you are doing us northerners a favor by moving it north, you'd just be cutting down on our riding time! I thought that was the point of it all.

:)

ps

I did attend another rally in the exact same area in early August. Great riding but way too hot to have fun, it was brutal.

I came farther than most so no matter where the EOM is going to be it is going to be far and I have to agree, the distance of getting there is part of the adventure. I was fortunate to get to ride with Petey, St. Louis FJR, ZZZIP, and Smitty and part way home with WheatonFJR. That in itself made the trip worthwhile.

Lewisburg was fine and the roads were great. Hell, even I-64 going home had some pretty good curves for the first 100 or whatever miles. Thanks to Heidi, et al a lot of work was done in preparation for this past event and most of it would still be useful. It would be a shame not to utilize more of their efforts. Meeting with everyone is a large part of why these get together's occur and as to when, no time is going to fit everyone. Just schedule it between hurricanes.

Just don't have it in Louisburg, KS. Can you spell "BORING."

i vote for Lewisburg again. My folks live just west of lewisburg= free lodging & mom's cooking for the weekend. I was there 2 weeks before the EOM. Since i didn't get the FJR until august this year i had no idea of the EOM, what an EOM was, or that it sounded like such a cool thing to do. Must work o n my computer skills at finding out about such places.

Cool. Does your Mom know that you volunteered her to cook for over 100 bikers for the weekend? B)

And that you offered free lodging for us.

PS, hope that her living room is HUGE!

Ooh goodie... FREE lodging! :punk:

Could we go ahead and get her address now so we can start mailing her all the sponsored items - lugging it there is kind of a drag? If she wouldn't mind arranging it neatly for the banquet night that would be great too.

By the way, ham for me.
