Totally bummed :(
My neice has scheduled her Jack & Jill for the very same weekend and my daughter is maid of honer. I am still trying to get out of this and do some riding with you folks. Drastically trying to come. I NEED IT. I may do a one day blast possibly. Pending

Edit: Any decision on which ride will be first? G or W?

Dave

Try Harder! . . . . just saying . . . be a bummer not to see you there . . . hope you can make it . . .

I'm just back from our bike trip to NC so it'll be a while before I get my route to Fred. It'll be much the same as our first Green Mountain Ride. We'll get in the Brandon Gap (RT 73), the App Gap (RT 17) and Smugglers Notch. Of course I might change a bit of the route at the last minute. Got to keep everyone on their toes. FJRed and I are working out where to eat. It should be a good ride. And by the looks we should have a good crew. And we did have about 12 bikes last year. No crashes this year PLEASE! And I can't wait to meet MEM.

... (coming up I 81 to I84 to Hartford, then I91 --- yeah, yeah, yeah, I know; slab the whole way, but the miles I put getting there, I have to put in to returning.... and my narrow ass can only take so much ---

Just a suggestion but if you find you're ahead of schedule, you may want to think about picking up Rte 7 off of I84 at Danbury and going North from there, then cutting back across to 91 somewhere in Mass. (Maybe 57 or 23 but others may know better.) Probably would add maybe an hour or so (?) but a real nice road that you can still make time on and besides, 91 up through Conn. is just plain ugly.

+1 84 through Conn. can suck too!

Personally, I'd take 84 to Port Jervis, then 209 from Port Jervis to Kingston, then either I87 or 9W to Albany, I787 for a short run to route 7, which will take you to route 11 and then to I91 less than an hour from the hotel.

One better would be, when you get over to Bennington, VT take Vermont RT 9 over the mountain and pick up I-91 North in Brattleboro, VT. Fun ride for sure. And the Interstates do suck. I should know, most of our NC trip just completed was done on those type roads. Best way we could do it. Just my $.02

That change only adds about 10 minutes to my ride. It means a big longer on the slab, but I think I'll try it.

Thanks.

Oh I could add more time to your trip but I'll leave that for another time/trip. The big question is....how many have made their reservations? Just wondering how many will be there.

I am in for sure. I reserved a room for Friday and Saturday and will be sharing with Paul (thingfish on the forum). We will arrive around 7:00 PM and look for a bunch of biker dudes at the brew pub.

Are you planning to post a list or something? If so, you may want to include a sign up for the chowda and steak on Saturday. Paul and I will participate in that as well.

I will start a new thread for the actual ride participants to say when they'll be there in a few minutes. Normally I wouldn't care who was coming, but it looks like we'll have a good size crowd and I want to be able to give both the brewpub (Friday) and the Steak house (Saturday) fair warning of our numbers.

Let this post be notice to all subscribers to look for that "other thread" in the Northeast rides section.

All of the earlier stuff in this thread is "way interesting", but (as usual) has become a bit cluttered up with tangential discussions, so it would be kind of hard to get an accurate participant list. I'm not dissing anyone for it. :nono:

That's the only way we get anything done around here!

Besides, I am probably the worst thread hijacker on the forum, so far be it for me to call anyone out for that! ;)

This past week, we rode a good part of Rt 30 in NY, both the lower part down in the Cats and up around roadrunner's at Sacandaga Lake, and it was all quite blissful. Highly recommended. Most of that road has been repaved in the past year, it's marked at 45-55 mph but relatively un-patrolled and lots of spots to pass the marker cages. You can ride it at 60-65 mph (2-up) no problem, except for occasional rib pain...

On the last leg of our vacation ride, we stayed in Kingston NY (last night) and I would encourage anyone coming up thru there to head to the east and use the Taconic Parkway to get from there up into the Albany area. Smooth, low traffic, high speed, two lane sweepers for the most part, you can run at almost any speed you (and your RD) feel comfy, and then use the advice from Tom for getting across to I91 in Brattleboro. Rte 9 across VT is a blast. Just remember: It is 100% legal to pass on the double yellow in VT.

I encourage anyone that has not yet made the ride up Mt Washington, to join in on CJ's Monday ride to eastern NH. There's a whole 'nother section of NH along the Maine border that we will not be able to explore on Saturday, but is well worth your time. I'd love to do that loop on the 3rd day. My better half needs to back home on Monday AM so I can't stay Sunday night. But I think that maybe I'll just drop her off Sunday night, and then blast back to meet you guys early on Monday AM... now that's a fine idea. :yahoo:

One more thing that I'll float out there: It appears that we are going to have more participation in this ride than ever in the past. I'm thinking that we may want to break into 2 smaller groups. One group at a more conservative pace for two ups or folks that like to smell the roses. And another for the guys that want to use the edges of their tires. I will be 2-up and generally lead rides at a 10mph over pace, because I think that most riders can comfortably maintain that without going over their ability. But I know that may frustrate some of the solo riders, as some of the roads we'll be on just beg to be strafed.

Since we will have full GPS routes published, pretty much anyone with one of those could lead the faster group. So if someone has a want to do that, please feel free to step forward and volunteer. We will have programmed stop and lunch spots, so the big group will be re-joining up occasionally through each day.

Looking forward to a great ride and a great time. I know the company will be.

Jeez Fred

You may have been a stones throw from my house. If I new we could have had you 2 over, or at least met you somewhere. Anyway, hope you had fun.

Your ideas of having 2 groups is a good one, because of the size. If I was riding 1 up I'd help out by leading a group, but Felicia is still pretty green, and kind of nervous, so I have to be on my best behavior. :angry2: . If anything I may end up riding sweep.

I just reserved a room at the Fireside Inn. Hope you don't mind a late joiner. I just read about this ride a few weeks ago and it seemed I wouldn't be able to make it, but things changed and the weekend opened up. I love VT & NH. I've been to NH a bunch of times this year already[only twice on the FJR,, once with my 11 YR old son as pillion].Theres a chance a good friend may come for the ride on Sat, he's on a VFR800, I thought I saw where all makes were welcome.I don't have a GPS but he does. Is anyone using chatterbox communicators. Peter

Better late than never Peter. Beside you have till tomorrow July 18th) to get your reservations in. And two groups sounds like a good idea Fred. I'm in the 5 to 10 MPH OVER the limit crowd but with traffic who knows how fast you'll be able to go.

Tom

Put me in the slow group- thinking the wife on her Bimmer would appreciate it! I have as of yet to get my Zumo stuff loaded into my Apple computer due to technical difficulties, so was just planning on playing follow the leader, or else I'd be happy to run point for the slow group. Let me see if my buddy Greg can get it situated, and will report back.

P.S. On my recent trip back from getting the new ride, the Zumo was set to go to "Home" coming up I-81 through PA and the damned thing had me going to friggin Watertown, NY! :angry2:  :dribble: I'm thinking my little R2 unit got a concussion during it's tumble last year in a rollover cage incident. (Don't ask.)

I'm glad to see CJ and some others are doing a Monday ride. I'm off to work so I can't join you but I hope you all have a good safe ride on Monday.
