The plans are now coming together for our 3rd annual FJR Green/White Mountain ride. Fred W and I are working on routes, me for VT, Fred for NH. The dates are the weekend of August 14 & 15 21/22 (see below). The motel will be the Fireside Inn in West Lebanon, NH once again.

As the routes come together we will post them. Right now I'm trying to work in Smugglers Notch, the App Gap (RT 17) and RT 2 down through Grand Isle so you can see Lake Champlain. Don't know yet what Fred is planning but I'm sure he'll come up with something good. :yahoo:

I'd like to squeeze this in this year before my son's hockey season goes full bore - he just made the roster of a championship team so it's going to be a busy year - I did a solo trip this year from Rochester NY - through the Adirondacks - across northern Vermont & Newhampshire over to Belfast ME and back. 4 days in late October. Hit snow in Dixville Notch. Hope my schedule allows for it this year.

Ann and I will go back just for the vibrating massage lounge chair. OOOOOP'S something doesn't sound right with that statement.

Folks,

Hold on for just a bit before making any plans. I zoned out and didn't realize that I wasn't available that weekend. My daughter is graduating from her Physician's Assistant Masters program that weekend. I just sent a PM to Tom and we will work out the details, either moving it up or back depending on what works best.

Sorry for the inconvenience

I have NOT nailed down the motel details yet so I can change it. Either weekend will work for me so some tell me which weekend. I'm thinking the one after. We'll try to nail this down by this weekend so I can get the motel details worked out and post the new dates.

OK everyone. Fred and I have now set the weekend of August 21/22 as THE DATE for the FJR ride. I'll get in touch with the motel (The Fireside) soon. Mark your calendars.

Tom

I would love to make it to this ride again. I wouldn't be able to make it for the Saturday ride (I work saturdays) but would like to do the Sunday ride. I would like to bring my wife and stay the night at Fireside but I will have to wait and see what her schedule is like. I am a maybe at this time.

Which brings up a question for any folks planning on attending the rides this year: What order to run in? Last year we ran the White mountains (NH) loop on Saturday, Vermont Greens on Sunday. In discussing potential routes with Tom for this year, I know that he has a longer route in the works than last year's, covering the fatter Northern half of the state including looping through Smugglers Notch, The App Gap, maybe some other Gaps, and the Grand Isles of Lake Champlain.

So it might make more sense to flip the order and make that Vermont ride on Saturday when nobody will have to worry about running for home (and work on Monday) afterward.

For the NH Whites loop I plan on running much the same route for the first half as last year (tough to improve on that one) and then taking a different (better) route back to the starting point. I could even schedule in some stops later in the day where people can peel off to head off for home if they won't be staying another night at the hotel. Of course that will also be dictated by which way home is. ;)

Anyway, thought I'd float that out there for early planning/discussion. Of course if more folks prefer to keep it in the same order as last year we can do that too. We aims to please!

Sure hope the weather works out as well as in the last 2 years.

I looked over a route FJRed sent me and it'll be about a 300 mile, 9 or 10 hour day if we do Grand Isle and the "Gaps". If you want to do that I will but I'll also come up with a "little" shorter route just in case. Both will have "Gaps" and the "Notch" in them. Let me know what length route you would like to ride. And the motel "stuff" is in the works as I type. I'll post details as soon as I get thing all "nailed down".

A long VT ride on Saturday would be primo.

We'll just have top spec an early start time (8AM?) which isn't so bad an idea in the heat of August, and plan on using the whole day out on the road. Sunday will be an easier day, ~230 miles, 6 1/2 hrs plus stops.

PS - sorry about the weekend change, Chris.

Shoot! The 14th and 15th I was golden, now I'm not. One year I will actually be able to make this ride.
If you want to come the 14/15 weekend I can take you out for a "tour"

Tom
I might have to take you up on that Tom. I have to be in DC on the the weekend of the scheduled ride so maybe I'll head up that way the weekend before.
