Gnarly logs, numerous rocks in some stretches, and even the occasional dirt biker ****** willing to soak you by ripping by just as you cross a stream, followed immediately by accelerating through powdered dust to obscure the upcoming deep ruts.

Damn pretty place, though, and Summit City has an interesting, if short, history. UberKul and I were out there yesterday, and an older gent on a quad told us that in the 1850s, while Summit City was still going, the brothels were all on once side of the lake and the houses and businesses on the other -- with ferries for crossing. If it were still the 1880s, I'm sure it would have been appropriate for me to do what I wanted to do -- put a couple 0.357 inch holes in a couple dirt bike gas tanks.

Rich (Exskibum) and I had a (mostly) great day Sunday exploring the area. The road in was mostly rock and loose rock ranging from pea gravel to fist size. There is only one area the big bikes may struggle but a little momentum and all should be fine. Cushy suspension is the way to go, does fork oil come in negative numbers?

The views are spectacular, the lakes are clear and the campsites look great.

There is an OHV area up there though so we did see all sorts of oddness. A BMW sedan, a Ranchero on lifted 4WD chassis and a few other dirt bikes. Rich tried really hard to become friends with a small group who felt the need to ride in our proximity while they performed stupid human tricks. He finally had to give up though and wave them off, thankfully with no gun in hand. :vinsent:

I think this is looking out at French Lake?

Besides beeing an awesome bike, the KLR makes a great emergency side-stand.

Wasn't me :)

My father in law got out of the hospital over the weekend after a 5 way baypass so all my other plans kinda went out the window.

I plan on going up there August 10-12 and camping. Did you happen to scout the backside road to hwy 89?

Not all the way, bet we did go to Weber Lake before turning around. I think we did 40 miles in and 40 miles out from the meeting spot at the bottom of Bowman Lake Road off Hwy 20.

Coming in off 89 is definitely the way to go in. Graded gravel 2 lanes wide to maybe 4 or 5 miles from Meadow Lake. You'll have some rough sections with a trailer and camper closer to Meadow Lake, but it's easily doable. Coming in with that kind of rig from Bowman would be difficult at best. As rough as some of the road is past Bowman Lake, it gets considerably worse closer to Meadow Lake when you start traversing abrupt berms across the roadway. OK on a bike or jeep or quad, but anything much longer or lower will certainly get high centered. So . . . definitely come in off 89 to get to Meadow Lake.

Put me down on the "Soon to Buy" list. I wanna go camping with you vigilantes, but I gotta find a DualSport that I can afford ($$$) 1st!

Oh crap, I was afraid of this! ExSkibum I must apologize for my previous reference to your lack of willpower and insinuating you might have a genetic propensity for compulsive behavior.

We are now clearly dealing with a contagious disease that if not handled immediately could infect this whole board! I have called the Center for Dualsport Control (CDC) and they gave me a recommended treatment for anyone potentially infected.

Have the person sit straddled a hardwood board, blow dirt in their eyes and mouth while simultaneously flicking a TV from the Outdoor Channel to the Speed Channel as fast as possible. If the patient fails to respond to treatment with a continued desire to own a dual purpose motorcycle they should be considered fully infected at which point the only treatment is to provide said motorcycle stat, (medical jargon for right-frick'in-now).

Now I know Bluesteek could be infected and is on his way to WFO. BEWARE, if he is babbling about 07 verses 08, KLR this and that, or just rides the dirt shoulder a little longer than necessary he should be quarantined immediately lest he infect all WFO attendees. These attendees would then become carriers who could infect the entire FJR Board. It sounds like we may have lost Northern California already (myself included) so do what you must to protect yourself!

Resistance is futile :dribble:

You can hang back half a mile or stay about three feet from the guy ahead of you so the dust doesn't have a chance to rise to face level. And you'll look cool in one of these.
So is that all you are recommending is some kind of bandana thing?
Yeah a bandana or even a painters dust mask will work or you can spend gobs of money on something more hi tech that won't work much better. Personally I like to stay out front, nothing works better
A friend who rides a quad, recommends surgical masks. If you guys have trouble getting a hold of some, let me know and I'll see what I can find for you, and mail them.

Reral bikers do not wear mask, They tough out the elements of nature  Reral bikers do not wear mask, They tough out the elements of nature

I can confirm Bluestreek has the disease..we both were the first to discover the short cut of 3 miles of dirt road from the backside of the ski area back into Park City this weekend at WFO !!

Oh Steee-eeeve!!!

The Friday before you left for WFO, there was a new green, black and silver '08 KLR 650 sitting on the floor at Roseville Cycle Center -- next to a couple '07s.

So, I'm "almost too easy" and a "DS ****", O'vale? Maybe Bluestreek will put up more of a fight. Or Skyway?

You sure caught that fast!!!

;) Looks like I"m a waiter again. :derisive: The next KLR to arrive at Dow Lewis Kawasaki in Gridley has my name on it. Its supposed to be blue(sorry Rich its the only one they have coming in at the moment), but I am hoping to trade for a green so Rich and I don't get mixed up. I will be happy either way. I wonder what time the Jewelry store opens in the morning.

For what its worth Craigs list in the Bay area has a blue 08 KLR for $4878.00. Some one used it for a trade in at Novato Ford. With only 15 miles on the clock this would be a great deal for someone. :clapping: Calling Mr Skyway

LMAO!!!! Look at how quickly the enabled becomes the enabler. **** -- you don't even have it in your possession yet, Steve! Who is Skyway going to infect then -- with all the immunologically compromised low hanging fruit like us already picked?

I like both the blue and the green. Have to say I probably like the green a little better, not so much for the color as for the different scheme of where they put the colors on them.

Looks like Cindy's going to be sporting some new sparkles -- before you get to say "farkles" and "KLR" in teh same sentence. So she's on board with this new motorcycle purchase?

 The little woman is on board with the purchase, but I fear it will come at a price. Only fair I guess.

Question: if Hans shows up Saturday, how do we get him out to the henchman's bike trailer? Is it proper form to drag a philosopher behind the bikes, or does he ride *****?
